What I hate most about One More Day is that it ruins all future Spider-man relationships because Spider-man cannot move forward with any of them. When he's in a relationship with Black Cat or Carlie Cooper I don't care because they can never be more than someone he has feelings for since Marvel has said that they don't want him married. There's no stakes about whether or not their relationship will work out because we know ahead of time that it won't because Marvel doesn't want it to. While it's okay for more episodic comics like Archie to have love triangles that go nowhere, in a serialized story like Spider-man we want to see the characters grow and change and when they're under a mandate that says they can't then what's the point in continuing to read the book?
Fans have been telling Marvel this for nearly a decade, but they're too stubborn to listen.
Tyler Worsham and even that didn't last, cause now he's poor again living in an apartment. That's why i read every storyline as it's own thing, i don't think about continuity or that they ruined certain aspects in the future. It's much more fun to read it that way.

Exactly. I went back and read some interviews with Quesada from 08 on One More Day, and his big selling point was (paraphrased) “this is what’s best for the character’s longevity, and this will allow us to tell the most interesting stories.”
I don’t think he understands that if anything, he’s shooting all future stories in the leg; he’s proving that if things get TOO off the rails, or if Spidey gets TOO committed to any one person or direction, Editorial will come down and wipe it away, to preserve Spidey’s oh-so-precious relatability. When we’re reading comics we’re kinda all aware that we’re essentially bowling with guardrails up, that the main character probably isn’t gonna die any time soon and that certain things aren’t likely to happen. You kinda roll with it though and put it in the back of your head. All One More Day accomplished was shine a big fucking spotlight on those guardrails and say “REMEMBER: THERE’S NO STAKES.”
Ethan's comeback at 26:16 is probably one of the funniest things I've heard.

It is a bit different when you literally have a teenage Spiderman that does well. Peter is older and runs a company now, it is almost more weird that he's not married at his point in life

I kinda miss how ya'll would be in the middle of a conversation during the intro and then sorta "notice" we were here and start the show. really drove home the "club house" feel.
If Marvel needs a reason to make Spider-man married, they need look no further than Superman Rebirth. The critical & commercial acclaim for that compared to New 52 Supes (which similarly to current Spider-man was a bit of a dick & wasn't with his quintessential love interest) is all the proof you'd need to make that decision. Hell if they undid One More Day & charged $10 for a random ass issue, it'd be worth it!

Unfortunately, the current _Amazing Spider-Man_ series is selling far better than _Renew Your Vows_. On the flip-side, _Renew Your Vows_ is receiving far more consistent praise than _Amazing Spider-Man_ is at the moment.

Because _Amazing Spider-Man_ is still selling significantly better than _Renew Your Vows_ despite the vastly varying quality between the two. Personally, I can't stand Dan Slott's current run on Spider-Man (something Sal and a lot of other fans seem to agree with) and would love for someone like Gerry Conway to take over. Sadly, that isn't going to happen as long as _Amazing Spider-Man_ continues to sell as well as it does.
The fact is though that Amazing will always sell well because of the title of the book. And it being the main universe Spider-Man book. I think only possibly the upcoming Spectacular may be able to possibly sell more but I think possibly the name recognition for Amazing is basically what will keep it going at the moment

If the heads at Marvel said it'd be easier to crossover with DC than it was to bring back Spider-Man's marriage, I wished someone at DC would've said, "We have no interest of doing crossovers with Marvel in the foreseeable future."

Yeah, the Renew Your Vows mini-had a few minor problems (Like Roman coming out of no where to beat the X-men and the question of were the heroes he captured a live or dead, or where some alive and some dead) but over all it was a good story that gave fan of the Peter x MJ what we have been asking for.

The best thing about this (besides that they're married) is Hawkeye as Nick Fury for me, I think that was a cool and fun idea.
Thank you Sal. If you have more than one Spider Man in your universe why not have the young teenage spider man be single. While having Peter finally get back to being married like he was before. I hate the current AMS because it does not feel like Peter Parker. It feels more like they sucked out Tony Stark soul and put it in Peter Parker's body.
It's funny now cause Slott himself now says he was on the book 5 years too long. He is saying now he was done in 2013 or 2014. But stay on this long just to say he wrote issue 800, and wanting to break Bendis' record. Notice how it's not cause he wanted to write good stories.
The Spot is actually very creative and powerful, he's closer to a manga styled superpower than Western comics. I can see him as a Jojo or One Piece character.
Western comics really lack creative fights that deals with the abstract and metaphysical, most times it's just brute strength.

I have personally hated (yes, hated) Dan Slott's run ever since _Superior Spider-Man_ concluded. That would have been a strong note to go out on, but Slott insisted on continuing; which hasn't been for the best in my opinion.
I hated Slott's run since Superior Spider-Man. He made everyone look like idiots from the Avengers to Mary Jane and his aunt.
I completely understand where you're coming from. While I found Doc Ock's journey to be very compelling, the only way for that plot to work was to make everyone as oblivious as possible. This is especially unacceptable for Mary Jane because she knows Peter Parker better than anyone. Heck, there is even a story called _Kravenoff's Revenge_ where The Chameleon impersonates Peter but Mary Jane quickly figures out he is a phony and beats him unconscious with a baseball bat. With that particular story in mind, it's incredibly frustrating to see Mary Jane act so ignorant in _Superior Spider-Man_. Or if you want an even worse example, there was a story during _Brand New Day_ called _Red Headed Stranger_ where The Chameleon once again impersonates Peter, but this time she has absolutely no clue. It's character inconsistencies like that which make reading comics very frustrating at times.
Marvel definitely called this Renew Your Vows to trick the audience, but their rationale was probably. "Look, Spider-Man did renew his vow, his vow not to kill."

Spider - Man is the only comic book I can tolerate from Marvel. I mean, I tried reading before but it doesn't have tge same edge as those in DC. Age of Ultron was a good story though. I liked the unlikelypartnership between Logan & Sue Storm.
Slott at DC might be cool if they put it in his contract that he can't remain on a title for more than 5 years without renegotiating.
It is a real shame that no super heroes other than Spiderman have a family to give them the strength to not get killed

Interesting. Comic Island's reading of the mini series seemed like a much more positive take on it, so I was surprised at the level of distaste Sal seemed to have for it.
To me it seemed like a callback to the "Back in Black" series that followed Civil War, when Spidey went all "rage mode" after Aunt May was shot. Since he almost snapped from that, I could totally see him deciding to end Venom after Venom decided he wouldn't stop until he had killed Peter's wife and child. Clearly, if Venom escaped this time he, would do so again in the future.

I don't disagree, but given the narrative they created with this I didn't find the killing itself to be a stretch.
If they used Carnage it would it have been more sensible, but of course he wouldn't know Spiderman's identity.
@@comicpopyeah the stupidest thing is that they chose to use Venom for that, when he has a long list of villains who actually WOULD threaten his family.
And it's an alternate reality so they could've just been like, well, in this reality Green Goblin/Doc Ock/Scorpion/Carnage/Morlun/whoever knows his secret identity, instead of Venom. Boom, problem solved with a villain who actually makes sense.
If they'd used carnage it would make sense. Cletus would kill them in a heartbeat.

I think Ethan is spot on with them holding on to the marriage card. But I also agree that with so many spider people, you could marry one off..... But maybe that is Jessica Drew. She is partnered with a baby. Great run, that story.

I did totally enjoy this mini-series, I definitely enjoyed it more than the main Secret Wars.
Edit: Also, what's wrong with this reality being radically different from the original one? I personally like that. I don't really want all the realities in the Multiverse to be identical except for one spot in their timelines.

Yeah while I understand Sal's viewpoint, I didn't see it as the creative team being like, "let's keep reminding the reader at every opportunity that this is an alternate world!!". More like they just wanted to have fun with the costume designs and stuff that they couldn't really experiment with in main continuity. Artists love that creative freedom.
Plus I really liked the fat spider on the back of the black suit 😅

I believe this Renew Your Vows and the second series are the same universe, it's just the second one is post-Multiverse restoration, and that explains the differences, the same way 616 pre and post-Secret Wars are the same universe, yet post-Secret Wars Miles Morales lives there.
Except for all the continuity issues with Miles that cropped up over the past 6 years.

Back when this came out I was reading all my comics out of trades from a library. I didn't know there was an event going on, or that this was a tie-in. So when the library got the trade for this and I read it, you can imagine how confused I was as a new(er) reader.

Why would Regent need the Spider Sense if he has Daredevil's Radar Sense?
Because tapping that power also comes with the side effect of blindness. Yes, I can see the world on fire, but I can't know the majesty of a rainbow anymore.
Just Some Guy with a Mustache that actually wouldn't happen as Matt Murdock being blind isn't caused by his powers, his eyes were just damaged by the radioactive material. But to give a concrete example, in Mark Waid's Daredevil run there was a character called Ikari which was given Matt's radar sense but still had the ability to see. Hope that makes sense anyway.
Batfreeze Spider Sense comes with a bit of precognition so he could basically know attacks that were about to happen before they did, whereas radar sense doesn't really do that. The real question is why after getting the powers of mutants, which would include seeing into the future, would he need spider sense? Which has no answer haha

The RED Samurai If I remember correctly, there was a pull on Twitter Sal put up asking for which book should be on back issues: This or I Am Gotham. This ultimately won the vote, meaning there are definite plans for Rebirth, possibly next week.

Ya know, I enjoyed this story cause frankly, I didn't know about Secret Wars either(I had no reliable way to follow comics at the time). I just saw Pete and MJ together with a little girl and I was like, "I'm in!" Don't even get me started on the current ongoing "Renew Your Vows" series(which is getting it's first arc in GN form in June).

I could understand being a little more vicious when protecting your child, but I don't know about going completely crazy.
What really pissed me off in Secret Wars was that Ultimate Peter Parker and his family died when they had brought Peter back only like 1 year before in Miles Morales' comic.
Regent actually showed up in an issue of ASM and there was a 4th wall break referencing this series.

its been nearly 17 episodes of back issues since you guys have done just a stand alone batman book. im not complaining but i would love to see a great batman story like dark victory, nevertheless keep up the great work.

Here’s the thing about cloak and dagger writers always forget. They kinda need each other to counteract each other’s powers. Because they were given their powers by a nazi experiment on kidnap children, and if they don’t drain each other’s powers they become overwhelmed and die
