i don't mind a slower release schedule for AOS if it meant changes were more meaningful. but the battletomes that have replaced the indices thus far have been insulting for how much they offer in exchange for their cost

This might be a hot take, but WarCry is by far the best and most fun game that GW has made. The depth of list building is great, and the games are very quick and smooth.

I was a casual player before, but I haven't played a game of AoS in 6 months. When I tried Spearhead I didn't look back. It's just so much easier to get to the table with no hassle.
I also dislike the new listbuilding. I used to make lists for fun all the time, but it's like the fun has been sucked out of that. I'm not even sure why. If I'm not the only one feeling like that, it's a big problem for GW - cause nothing sells me models more than writing lists for fun and thinking "ooh, if I just had 2 more units of those it would be so great!"

I was a hardcore KT person before but I am in the same boat as you, tired Spearhead once and havent looked back. I did pick up the new editions of Undeworlds as well and has been a great pickup as well.

I love aos, but I do agree with the endless spells and faction terrain. While I still think aos is a lot cheaper than 40k, having to buy a terrain piece and spells is somewhat demotivating, I've been half assing mine as I'm not that interested in buying a fancy terrain piece that's gonna be a paint to bring
For list building i think there should be another bonus you get for having more smaller detachments so it's worth it to bring small heroes
I still have to try the new underworlds and for warcry while I love it, I just gotta get playing again ^^

And them removing stuff from the app sucks. My buying has halted since then so im happy for this stuff to be slow releases until gw pull their fingers out and innovate.

There should be a Spearhead+ format to allow for lite list-building.
Basically allows you to swap 1-2 units or heroes. E.g. NH can swap the default hero for a caster, and maybe the Grimghasts for Blastgheists.

Warcrys biggest problem for me is terrain. If they wanna keep flow give us terrain that's not fomo boxes. I wont use their terrain untill its not fomo where i can hust pick it up when i wanna change sets.

As a regular standalone Warcry player, I’m perfectly happy to keep the current rule set for a while if it means we don’t get the Underworlds treatment.

As a veteran of underworlds i really hate the new edition, its not smoother to play but the opposite and all the flavour has been filtered out, inside the box you are paying for more and getting less and the same goes for all the warbands, you used to have cards for each warband that was DESIGNED for each warband....now its just generic bland universal decks.....So you buy a new warband for same price and no cards, Screw that.
Going back to 1st edition, much better
Love Warcry i dunno what GW is doing with it right now but yeah we badly need a new starter set, im really hoping they say something for Xmas....Anything....
AOS 4th is questionable yeah.....The new tomes are a total waste of money and more expensive than ever.....the decision to make terrain and endless spells cost nothing is so obviously dumb it blows my mind, the rules have ALWAYS been free in AOS and that's simply not the case anymore for "reasons"....
Spearhead is the only true winner here for us all.

I disagree that Warcry is in a stagnant state; the last two updates from April and September respectively have shaken up listbuilding, going from a tendency towards larger lists to smaller in terms of April and we are now seeing players bounce back to counter that smaller meta. Also in September two new factions were added in Darkoath and the Ruination chamber along with an Ironjawz rework and a bunch of new fighters so I don't really see the game as being stagnant.

I wonder whether Games Workshop might be developing backwards. It seems they release a thing for 40k, and then let Age of Sigmar perfect it. It would make more sense, I think, for them to release to small properties first, get audience reactions, and then perfect for their biggest seller. Then again, I'm not a businessman so what do I know!

It's probably because 40k is already so popular a bunch of people are going to buy what they sell no matter what, whereas AoS relies on quality to survive since it doesn't have the same established fanbase.
Just look at models. People will eat up the worst releases from 40k so they put way less effort into models, but AoS doesn't have that luxury so every kit has to look as good as it can to entice people in.

A lot of the upset around Underworlds (and yeah, this is a generalisation) seems to be people upset that they cant competitively play 8 year old warbands that have been out of print for almost as long, in a brand new edition of the game. I totally understand that, but let's be real, the game is never going to be balanced if 50+ warbands all need to be tested and considered when making new stuff. It hampers the ability to design new, cool things and the game absolutely needed a reset. At least GW gave rules for old stuff. They might not be the best but at least they're playable. They've also been really forthcoming in letting people know warbands will now cycle out of play, no more evergreen. Its a change in mindset for a game where almost everything has always been usable. It sucks, but let's give the new edition chance to grow. It's an aggro meta right now thanks to the power of decks available but that'll change as more options become available and I can't wait to see how the competitive meta moves and shifts.

Correct, it's a small indie company, you can't expect them to be able to hire and pay for a decent number of devs and play testers with their record profits YOY to balance a game they released a shit load of product for. It's just not a reasonable expectation 😑
