    I love it when they reveal that Thatcher is down there with them as well. It won't be long before the bonus-bonus feature of 'Downfall' shows David Cameron going down into the bunker, while Thatcher, Blair and Hilter are playing poker in the corner.

      Wow, super spot on about Cameron, Ranaway from Brexit after pushing for it

      To be fair, Cameron didn't even bother to try and hang on. His exit was more along the lines of "well, screw this, I'm out"

    Of course, the Intro is narrated by Culshaw with his "Tom Baker Voice". Of Course the 4th Doctor explains history to you. Who else.

      @georgeiii2998 Complain about the Tories (as these two are) then and now. But there is no point arguing. You're just wasting time.
      "Thatcher was great." "No she wasn't. Why would you think that?" ✔️
      "Thatcher was great." "Are you a complete idiot?! You t***, you're obviously one of the people who have ruined this country!" ❌️

    I do understand the other side of the arguments, those with money don't want to be paying for those without who mainly consist of those not willing to work. But I KNOW that there are people who are incapable of working, for example, children, who may have a lot of potential, are unable to exceed that because they don't have enough funds. If they were to they could contribute just as must back to society. I KNOW this because it happened to me, however that's a different story

    Well yes, I'm aware of some things she did, many of which were not just unpopular but idiotic (sinking retreating Argentinian ships, poll tax, denationalising so many things in a short sighted attempt to get quick cash rather than long term income for the country). And perhaps her more sane policies would do the country some good right now, I'm not saying every single action she took as PM was wrong. But my original point was that I don't see why she's any more detested than other crappy PMs.

    Well we're kind of drifting away from my central point and into opinions on her policies :) Despite me thinking she wasn't a very good prime minister, I'd probably much more enjoy a chance to give Blair or Brown a slap in the face. In fact they've arguably been worse for this country for thinking it's fine to borrow a gazillion pounds per day and then leave office with a gigantic debt for the next lot to clear up.

    You're not sure why Thatcher is detested? Yet you know she was "certainly bad for this country".
    Thatcher was 'certainly' good for this country, and in this financial collapse we need another Prime Minister as strong as the Iron Lady, now; This is a position shared by most of the right-wing (especially Tory supporters)... but not (unsurprisingly) by the left-wing. (Though Blair, Brown and Ed Milliband have all at some point praised Thatcher, the former two invited her to Downing Street.)

    I'm not even sure why that is, really. Thatcher was certainly bad for this country, but so was Blair, so was Brown, and I don't exactly have a high opinion of Cameron either. I can't actually remember anything Major did apart from abolish poll tax and look exceedingly dull on TV.

    Opinions are no longer necessary, as facts released 30 years after the event proved. At the time it couldn't be proven without compromising our intelligence capabilities, but as evidence now shows it was not heading back to port as the Junta claimed.
    It was a mistake on my part that it was within the exclusion zone, though by this point it didn't matter. The Belgrano was fair game, and the Argentine's knew it (and they now freely admit).

  • @samsmith92samsmith
    @samsmith92samsmith 13 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    @liberalcynic As with every politician on Deadringers they exaggerate them and take the piss out of them.
    Allot of people may hate Margret Thatcher but just as many still highly respect her and long for another PM as deceive and effective as her. Very few PMs are still remembered decades after they left office, and Thatcher is apparently happy that despite leaving politics decades ago she still manages to irritate, annoy and anger pinkos on the loony left with nothing but a memory.

    To my view the poll tax was a very sane suggestion that went down badly and her denationalisation of state owned companies was practical considering the losses they made. It's a matter of opinion.
    Though, the sinking of the General Belgrano during the Falklands War was a decision that was unarguably right, it wasn't retreating (it was regrouping) and it was in clearly designated exclusion zone during a war. The Argentine government have agreed that it's sinking was a legal act of war.

    Liberal doesn't mean left wing, no matter how much the extreme left would like to redefine the word. Liberal's to do with, you know, liberty. Though I can't say whether liberalcynic is a real liberal or an ultra-socialist authoritarian poser.

    Why bother explaining? The same is wrong with left-wing politics to a right-winger, than right-wing politics is to a left-winger.
    As a right-winger, my answer to your question would be.... What's not wrong with left wing politics? But let's not get into that.

    What's wrong with left-wing politics?

  • @samsmith92samsmith
    @samsmith92samsmith 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    No, certainly not. Those who claim so are either being acrimonious, narrow minded, or simply stupid.
    Notice the name 'liberalcynic', a left winger; a significant majority do dislike and even hate Thatcher. Though this is half the picture, Thatcher is a paragon of the conservative right (similar to Reagan for the US). Thatcher is hated and loved for a reason. Most political leaders aren't significant enough to inspire such negative and positive passion either way. Hence people have no opinion.
