This is exactly what I needed! Now I finally have pockets in a gorgeous jacket I bought 30 years ago but never wore because every time I put it on I said, "Man, I wish this had pockets!" LOL!
This saved me from having to cut all new jacket pieces and starting over again. I had to interface my opening closed and start over with this technique. It worked so beautifully! 🎉 I am so grateful!

I've seen loads of examples of how to sew a welt pocket and this by far is the best way to do it. It makes sewing fun a pleasure and fuss free . Also I love that you're video doesn't has horrid music playing with no dialogue. Straight forward plain easy to understand instructions. My mom suggested I make a second pocket like the upscale store bought jackets 😮. Margaret saw my face and said, "Tell your mother, Then you wouldn't be able to afford it (the jacket)!" Still laughing after all these years.

And there it sat, for like 2 years, untill I watched this video! Finally it's done. I would give myself a C for fhe execution, but if you can see the puckers then you're too close anyway...
I just made two beautiful welt pockets with black and white checker fabric with no problems at all. Opening of pocket is in bias. And pocket is diagonally placed on my jacket. It's so pritty I can cry, as you always say. I wish I can send you some pictures. I love your instructions it' spot on. I alway watch your youtube on TV when I'm sewing in my sewing room. I always have hard time finding any clothes that fits me well. I've been makeing my own outfits over 25 year, but I was always afraid to try welt pockets, so many pieces and it never comes out good. But with your instruction. I did it at first try. Thank you again
Just what I need - making pyjama pants for my sons, they want pockets in them (of course) and there's no side seam. Didn't want to put a patch pocket on so this will hopefully be the solution! Thank you for the clear instructions :D
Added a pocket to inside of jacket for storing a tissue. Such clear instructions. Found it best to shorten stitch length around corners as it easier to get accurate angles. Thank you
I want to start making all my jeans with low profile welted cargo pockets for my phone on one side and wallet on the other. This is a great tutorial. I expect I will have to account for the weight of phone with at least a strip of velcro to seal the pocket - but I can't wait to get started. Subscribed and thank you !

This looks great! I want to add welt pockets to a pair of pants that I thrifted. Would I need to take the pants apart to make it easier to add welt pockets? I don’t have the same fabric to use since the pants were thrifted. The pants are dark green/black plaid, I think I will add black welt pockets in a similar weight fabric. Not sure whether to add to the front or back of the pants.

This is a double welt, also called a jetted, pocket. A single welt has a "flap" extending up from the lower opening.
