  • Toyotas off-roading to find camp in the California wilderness. At the end of this 4x4 OHV trail there's a lake, and we're determined to get there and set up our camp spot. There's something about driving these 30 year old trucks that can't be explained. A sense of satisfaction that not many will understand, and a risky drive just to go camping. The trucks we're driving are a 1988 Toyota Pickup Rock Crawler, and a 1990 Toyota 4Runner mostly stock with IFS suspension.
    Specs on the truck:
    ► 1988 Toyota Pickup
    ► 22RE and W56
► SAS with an 83 front axle, gussetted and trussed (straight axle swap)
► Chromoly 30 spline axles, longfields (front and rear)
► 5.29 gears, triple drilled flanges, etc
► Rear locker, yukon Grizzly: amzn.to/3upkBm6
    ► Dual transfer cases, 2.28 and 4.70
► 37x12.50x17 Cooper Discoverer STT PRO
► NWTI front bumper, Trail-Gear sliders, custom rear bumper
    ► Thick wall driveshafts
► 4" lift front and rear, Trail-Gear springs, Bilstein Shocks

On your window. You will have to take the door apart to exposé the window track. A lot of times the glue that holds the window in the track fails. I’ve always had good luck cleaning out the window track and using a clear silicone sealer to reattach the window to the track. Must make sure the track is in good shape and working properly it’s not a bad idea to clean out the inside of the door and lubricate the track and crank mechanism it’s also not a bad idea at this time to lubricate your doorhandles and locking mechanisms. Make sure the track where the window seats is exceptionally clean and dry then apply a good amount of silicone sealer seat the window in the track clean away all excessive silicone close window tightly and allow it to set for at least 24 hours. This has always worked for me. My little sister has my old Toyota and I fixed that window 25 years ago and it still works fine to this day. I hope this was of some help to you. Good luck and keep up the videos.

You should let more air out of the tires for better traction. I also agree you should invest in recovery gear. Good videos keep ‘em comin.

Cold start injector sensor. My 80’s Toyota Cressida had the same issue. Did not want to start and stay running when cold. And it would run fine once warmed up. I Replaced the cold start injector sensor and it started perfect even when the temp was below Zero.

Good content bro keep it coming. That second gen 4Runner with the right mods and a different engine it can be a good off-road vehicle especially for overlanding.

I would look at the fuel injectors on that 3.0. these engines, including the 3.4 have a tendency to cook the injectors with hot soak conditions, especially #3 and #6 as they are at the back of the motor near the crossover pipe. fuel probably dripped into the cylinder during the night

  • @damnitdang

To be honest for the most part the 3.0s I’ve worked on and wheeled haven’t been that bad at all! This one though…has some demons

So what happens if the truck just dies completely? Do you just abandon it?

    • @RM_Garage
      @RM_Garage  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Fix it. If a trail fix isn’t possible, move it off the trail as best as possible, find a way back into town, come back with proper tools. If no fix available still, or too damaged, tow out
