The matching outfits were not planned but were a perfect aesthetic for this song. Paint it Black by the Rolling stones is Burch's favorite and thought it could be Alexis's theme song. @TheRollingStones #rollingstones #stones #paintitblack #60smusic

From what I remember Alexis is a Wednesday Addams Fan, and in the 1st episode of Wednesday where she is playing her Cello on the Roof, she is doing a Version of Paint it Black, played on the Cello it’s such a Great Cover!
I think she does a Metallica piece also?
The TV show was "Call of Duty," about a US infantry unit in Vietnam.
Many I love the Beatles but it's the stones and the kinks for me bro.🤘🎸
One of my favorite songs of the era (not just the Stones, but the entire period of Rock).
Definitely my favorite Stones song of all time.
I go back n' forth with 'Brown Sugar'. Whichever I'm lisenin' to is my fave.@@jasonlaviolette2964
@@jasonlaviolette2964 Mine too. I have always liked it. It is amazing how many people have never caught on that it is about the death of someone loved. They don't catch the funeral line. R.i,p, Charlie Watts, one of best drummers in rock.
@@thancrow that song always makes me think of people wearing black at funerals.
@@serendavies7375 That is definitely a part of it.
This song was very popular during the Vietnam War era. It was almost the unofficial theme to the war. It was featured in the Full Metal Jacket film as the end credits song.
Exactly. Every time I hear it I think of Vietnam. I think everybody my age does.
It was also the theme song to the TV series "Tour Of Duty".
Yeah that's where i first heard the song as a young kid that was like in the mid 80's ircc@@taun856
I was in Gilli Islands (Near Lombok) in the 1990s and this song came on and gave me flash backs to Nam! I was born after that time but the feeling was there!
technically it's about a funeral, so i guess that ties into the war.
Brian Jones' sitar work on this song is what makes it so different than most Stones songs. Even though the song is not about the Vietnam war, it's easy to see why Vietnam vets were drawn to the song because they experienced the death and depression that the song represents. I'm 66 but these guys make me feel young and it's hard to believe they are touring again in 2024, even though they are in their late 70's and early 80's. 🙏✌️
Agreed and like you said they are still out there doing it well.
it's about a funeral .
This is the lament of a guy who has just lost his love to death. The line of cars is the funeral procession complete with the flowers 'never to come back'. If I look hard enough into the setting sun, my love will laugh with me before the morning comes. Death happens every day just like the birth of 'the newborn baby'.
The TV show was "Tour of Duty". It was the first time I heard the song, and fell in love with it instantly.
I recently bought the three series 'Tour of Duty' with original sound track. Love it.
The Stones have a brand new album called "Hackneye Diamonds" which is really good. You might like to listen to some artist's more recent music in addition to the classics.
Me too. My favorite Stones song. It just so happens to be the song that was #1 on the charts when I was born.
Keith Richards, the legendary guitarist of the Rolling Stones, played the role of Captain Teague, who is Jack Sparrow's father, in the "Pirates of the Caribbean" film series.
When the videogame "Twisted Metal Black" came out, they broke the formula with the title by not numbering it. Before the game came out I wondered why they went with Black instead of 4.
I walked over to Walmart to buy it when it came out and as I walked home I had a thought, "wouldn't it be cool if they incorporated Paint it Black into the game somehow?" I had really become a fan of the song from previously watching the movie "Stir of Echoes." Almost obsessed haha.
Got home and popped the game into my playstation and that oh so familiar guitar rift from the beginning of the song came out of the tv. I literally had shivers come across my body. It was perfect.
The drumming of Charlie Watts (RIP) on this track is outstanding. This was my pub song, back in the day.
Not only are they still touring, they are still making new music.... after 60 years, that's crazy.
Even though Keith died 20 years ago and has been an AI android ever since!
Rolling Stones are incredible I’d love to see you guys react to Wild Horses by the Rolling Stones, amazing song. Also love watching you two
I'm 47, I took me this long to get into the stones. Grew up with all the 80s/90s rock/metal and grunge. Love it all. Seriously, just download the stones 40 licks album for starters. I've always loved paint it black but there is so much more to enjoy.
great selection and reaction. I am not a huge Rolling Stones fan but this song , As Tears Go BY & She's a Rainbow are really tasty memorable songs ! Would love you to react to them one day
Love all their songs like gimme shelter midnight rambler and brown sugar very deep meaning behind their songs.
Incase you missed it. Its about attending the funeral of a girl friend. "I see a line of cars
And they're all painted black
With flowers and my love
Both never to come back"
Great reaction guys!! Love this song!! For Alexis' next listening pleasure, 'Honky Tonk Woman', 'Brown Sugar', 'Satisfaction', 'Gimme Shelter', just to throw a few out there. I enjoy your reactions guys!!
I love many Stones of that era: besides this one that would be Under My Thumb, As Tears Go By, Lady Jane, 19th Nervous Breakdown, Wild Horses, Angie. Then ther's this album "Steel Wheels" which is my favorite. And later in 21st century already they dropped "Love is Strong", a perfect Stones gem.
At last someone reacts to the song that actually knows what the it's about , every other reactor hasn't got a Scooby Doo .
That is what we do :)
Red, black, and white are my colours. My entire apartment is decked out in these colors - including appliances and décor. Lots of black furniture with red accents. I have one room with blood red walls and black furniture. I'm a Beatles over the Stones girl, but I like the Stones, too. Paint It Black is one of my favourite Stones songs. Gimme Shelter is another favourite. I'd be really curious to see what Alexis thinks of Gimme Shelter. Please add that to your list of songs to do.
My favorite Stones song is probably their simplest song they ever made (sounds like it anyway)... She's So Cold !
My favorite song of all time by The Stones. I first heard it during the end credits of Full Metal Jacket.
In my humble opinion 'Sympathy for the devil' and 'Gimme shelter' are not just the two best 'Stones' tunes but they are right up there with the best tunes ever!..........................a must listen to! 😁
Definitely Sympathy for the Devil!
I dyed my hair black for a year, got too expensive though LOL
And my whole bedroom was black, except the ceiling. I loved it! Was very calming. 🖤
TOUR OF DUTY!! That's the show you're talking about. That was my exposure to this song. I was hoping you'd say it. Loved that show even though I was like 9 years old. 😂
Aftermath (on which Paint it Back was released) is the first album I bought (1966). My freshman year in high school. Paid for it with money I earned mowing lawns.
Band member Brian Jones, who died tragically in 1969 at 27, is a powerful creative influence on these early Stones albums. A multitalented artist. Could play any instrument he picked up.
This was the song for the TV show Tour Of Duty. A show about Vietnam. Also the main theme in a game for Play Station2 called Conflict Vietnam. That's the reason for the Asian tones in the guitar.
I am actually a industrial painter by trade back in the day. So i walked around at work on oil platforms offshore with the letters Paint it Black on my helmet 🤗😎🇧🇻
I grew up with the Stones ....my favorite band thru High School and College....my favorite is. Wild Horses
This song is just so fun to play on the drums.
Also in the series Wednesday, there is a scene where she's playing this on a cello amidst chaos all around her.
You wouldn't like where I live - I paint everything yellow. It's the best colour.
talking about the stones used in a tv show 2 of The Who songs Babba O,Riely was used in CSI New York and a blend of Who Are You/Won,t Get Fooled again was the theme for CSI Miami
While they are not my all time favorite group, I still believe,The Stones are the greatest rock band of all time!
i like the pirates of the Caribbean reference, considering Keith Richards plays johnny depps dad in one or two of the movies
I knew you were my kind of people Burch. I was always Stones over Beatles but not really into either.
Stones not for the masses but those of us who “ get it” know what they have done for rock and roll 🎸. Greatest band ever.
Not just Rock and Roll, Blues and Blues artists were exposed to the masses.
@Brookspirit 100% correct.
Opening theme to Tour of Duty. 🚁🚁🚁🚁 That show and The Wonder Years were my appointment TV back in high school.
The Stones from 1969 to 1974 are my favorite rock band ever !
Maybe you should give Beggars Banquet a listen, its from 1968 and started their super hot streak of great albums
OMG I forgot that show! "Tour of Duty"! I watched it every week as a kid - loved that show... wow! flashback
“Tour of Duty” was my introduction to this song!
Loved that show
Pretty sure it was the theme of Tour of duty as a result of being in the end credits of Full Metal Jacket
You've got to do Rolling Stones "Undercover of the Night". Way underrated song. Awesome video. Very controversial at the time and they wouldn't show it until late at night.
Love the stones!!
Tour of Duty, 11pm or later on ITV Saturday nights, great show. This and the scotch tape advert got me into my Dads record collection, he’s Stones over Beatles too, but Cream over Stones.
I love Paint It Black 🥰
I prefer Beatles vs Rolling stones but I do like this song I just have never got into the stones, You need introduce Alexis to Little river band, they have such a great sound and there harmonies are phenomenal.
The background has a sitar...an East Indian instrument very popular with the hippie movement back in the mid to late 1960s.
This was a theme song during many of my younger angsty years.
I only recently realized that this song is about the death of a women he loved. One of my favs from the Stones.
In the beginning, the Stones only covered blues classics. At one point, their then manager locked Keith and Mick in a room and would not let them out until they had written an original song. Satisfaction was the result. The Beatles did covers too but were writing their own songs from the beginning. The Beatles and the Stones were pals too. They coordinated the releases of their records so as not to impact the other’s sales. Keith Richards is on record as saying John and George were “lovely guys”. So much for their rivalry.
I also am not a huge Stones fan, their works that I like, I like a lot, but the rest is just ok for me. This is my favourite Stones song, and one of my faves of all time, period. I also watched that show every week, and loved it at the time, mainly because the theme song set the mood for the show to follow. I bought the box set of the show a few years ago, and they didn't have the license to use Painted for the opening theme, so replaced it, the show doesn't hit quite as hard without it.
Been watching the channel for a while. It wasn't until this video that I feel in love with.... she had to love black
Alexis has a 50 gallon drum of Benjamin Moore flat latex black in the garage!!! Paint it Black is apropos!
Ooooh, you hit my favourite Stones' song!
While i'm a fan of both the Beatles and the Stones , i like the Beatles more cause stylistically they covered a lot more ground in a far shorter career span. They went from Love Me Do to Sgt. Pepper in six years and recorded it with a four track recorder. Mind blowing progress in such a short period. Also Alexis black and white are considered neutrals with red , yellow & blue as primary colors. Orange , green & purple are secondary colors.
If were looking for an emerald colour song. Thin Lizzy- Emerald is a stunning song which seems to exhibit some metal flavours their riff structure.
I think they were going for the Indian Raga vibe especially with the sitar. A lot of British bands were influenced by music from India. The Stones, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin and others.
Hey guys, I just discovered your channel and I absolutely love your content. It feels like I'm sitting with you guys and contributing to your banter. I about died when you said "mirror" because I literally thought the same word before you said it.
Have you heard of Marcin? He's a Polish guitar player (no vocals). He takes well known music, mostly classical, re-does them with his own twist. He has also taken some classic rock such as Kashmir from Led Zeppelin and Eric Clapton's Layla and redone them. I highly recommend him if you are looking for instrumentals.
Think one of the first times I heard this it was used as the theme tune to a series called tour of duty
One of the greatest Stones songs. Wild Horses is my go to Stones.
Alexis my favorite color is black and Emerald is my birthstone as well.
Burch I’m more of a Beatles fan. I prefer the Byrds, Zepplin, Cream, Doors, Pink Floyd and Jefferson Airplane
The TV show you remember was "Tour of Duty", and was set in the Viet Nam war.
Earth shattering song. US Hays Production Code was still in effect, reqiring movies to have short kisses and a happy ending. Goth, Emo, and Doom Metal wouldn't have existed without it ... Black Sabbath would gave been touch and go.
Continental Drift by the STONES has a very Middle Eastern Feel . Rock on !!
Congratulations Alexis !
A China Beach reference, that's a blast from the past.
Sitar is an indian musical instrument. shared from wiki :- The sitar is a plucked stringed instrument, originating from the Indian subcontinent, used in Hindustani classical music. The instrument was invented in medieval India, flourished in the 18th century, and arrived at its present form in 19th-century India. Khusrau Khan, an 18th-century figure of the Mughal Empire has been identified by modern scholarship as the inventor of the sitar. According to most historians, he developed the sitar from the setar, an Iranian instrument of Abbasid or Safavid origin. Another view supported by a minority of scholars is that Khusrau Khan developed it from Veena.
Used widely throughout the Indian subcontinent, the sitar became popularly known in the wider world through the works of Ravi Shankar, beginning in the late 1950s and early 1960s. The advent of Psychedelic culture during the mid- to late 1960s created a trend for the use of the sitar in Western popular music, with the instrument appearing on tracks by bands such as the Beatles, the Doors, the Rolling Stones and others.
I'm a fan of both Beatles and Stones. I'm 73 yrs old.
"You Can't Get To It" would be a good name to build a song around👍😎
I hear this song and I see the opening to "Tour of Duty"
MY favorite color is black and gray. Guys, react to the latest Beatle song "Then and Now". The making of it is also wonderful to see.
Funny she mentions Pirate of the Caribbean with Keith Richards appearing in those movies lol
It was used as the theme song on the Vietman era show "Tour of Duty".
The sitar was included because everyone followed the Beatles and the Beatles had a sitar in a song a year earlier
Cool my daughter & I's favorite is black as well. 😌🤎🖤
Sitar was Beatle influenced . the beat was a "Bolero" beat. used in some classic pieces,
That right there is the first ever recording of a fretless bass
I love the stones "paint it black" and not sure of the title but the devilis singing and asks "guess my name"?
My favorite Stones song.
Mine too, always and forever.🐈⬛
Burch, how you can say that you are not that interested in the Rolling Stones baffles me!
I challenge you to play Can't You Hear Me Knockin' from Sticky Fingers for Alexis and not say it is pure virtuosity.
I said I like listening to the Stones, but just not an huge super fan. Still like em better than the Beatles for sure.
@@flickeringboxofficial Thanks, I get it! I'd still like to see you review "Cant You Hear Me Knockin'".
The worlds Greatest Rock & Roll band
Love the channel. Sympathy for the Devil imho would have been a better gateway Stones Song. perhaps one of the greatest lyrics every written for rock.
And it’s funny that she says it sounds like something from the Pirates of the Caribbean well Keith Richards was actually in one of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies 😄🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
Coping with the death of a family member or friend was a sad reality for many during the Vietnam War, and death and grief show up clearly in the first verse of "Paint it Black," in the form of a funeral. In the expressionistic world of "Paint it Black," death is just as much a part of day-to-day life as a "newborn baby." That is the circle of life; as Mick Jagger laments, "It just happens every day." In the song, the narrator stoically looks on as a hearse and the other black cars in a funeral procession carry "flowers" and his "love" to a cemetery for burial. At first, the narrator of "Paint it Black" seems like just a young man struggling with depression and grief after the death of his girlfriend. Like a moody teenager, he wants to paint everything black to match the way he feels inside. This desire for absolute blackness peaks in the song's outro when the singer goes into a full-on temper tantrum, expressing his fervent desire to see the "sun blotted out of the sky" in a fully encapsulating apocalyptic darkness of borderline Biblical proportions. Is this really just your typical teenage angst? This might be the voice of a teenager struggling to get over the loss of his first love, but there may be more to it. The narrator might be another depressed civilian kid, but he could also be a young soldier just returned home from Vietnam. After witnessing so much death in the war, observing another funeral back at home may be enough to push him over the edge. For him, the hearse might be taking much more than the body of a loved one - it may be taking away his ability to love and feel altogether.
Just wanna cast my vote for Gimme Shelter being a Stones song you should listen to!
Great driving song! 😎
Even the song is telling you to "Paint it Black":)
Tour of Duty! Great show!
My favorite song is Angie then symphony for the devil, not a big stones guy either but I think Angie one of the greatest songs ever written
Lovely reaction, but I'm biased, I have developed an addiction to Rolling Stones 😁
Always reminds me of the tv series “Tour of Duty”
The Who actually was favorite bristish band between The Beatles The Rolling Stones and The Who
Great song. Think of a funeral.
As we say in Texas; y'all be safe.
Great reaction, in high school in the early 70s , the question was more Stones or Beatles, or the Who
This song was used in Westworld. Season one there is a western style version lots of strings, player piano while the mariposa is being robbed. In season 2 in Asiaworld it is played again with a eastern style while the Shogun is harrassing the Mariposa...
My personal opinion is that there is no darker, extreme lyrics than “I wanna see the Sun blotted out from the sky”.
I've never been big on The Rolling Stones but Paint it black and Satisfaction are killer tunes! Edit: Alexis can decorate my apartment any day!
Greatest Rock N Roll Band ever 🤘
