Hi Danieldoesstuff18, I have a question:
Do you believe the starboard boats were all swung out one after eachother or one boat being swung out, then as loading / lowering begins, the next boat swung out?
I tend to believe the second as it matches what survivors describe
Great video aswell, keep up the great work
thx i believe the first one most of the boats were swung out by the time the first boat launched with the exception of boat 10
@@danieldoesstuff18 Thanks for reply,
I tend to believe the second option as witnesses described it like that (Even though it is not conventional).
Fred Ray in the US Inquiry that he went up to the boat deck to his allocated boat 9 and saw that it was just being swung out. Shortly after he noticed that "I went to the rail and looked over and saw the first boat leaving the ship on the starboard side." Suggesting boat 9 was being readied when boat 7 was leaving.
This is also corroborated by Boatswain's mate Albert Haines who said -
"We were turning out the after boats while they were filling the forward one."
Henry Etches also said that he went on deck and saw Boat 7 being loaded. He then saw Boat 5 being uncovered. Meaning Boat 5 was being uncovered as Boat 7 began to load.
Walter Nichols said that when he came onto the boat deck at 1 AM - 1:15 AM, that crews were working on boats 11 and 13 (Presumably at the same time, presumably being uncovered and swung out and lowered to A deck after a few crew board), and attention shifting to boat 15 only after these had gone (Though presumably lowered to A deck). He also said it took 20 minutes to load Boat 15 from A deck which is corroborated by others, for example, George Beauchamp in Boat 13 who also said it took 20 minutes to load. (Boats 11, 13 and 15 loading at corroborated by most from those boats along with others)
He didn't mention Boat 9 suggesting it was already leaving the ship when he came on deck. (Though not in water as he mentioned seeing several boats in the water. Several would reasonably refer to 3 to 4. If Boat 9 was in the water when he observed several boats in the water. Then their would be 5 boats in the water on the starboard side which would not agree with Nichols observations about their being several (3-4) boats in the water (1, 3, 5, 7).
So therefore, I believe that Boat 9 left at 1:07, when the ship had returned to an even keel from the starboard list. As it starts to leave, work begins on swinging out Boats 11 and 13, swinging them out and lowering them to A deck after a few crew board. Then, Boat 11 leaving at 1:25, then very shortly after Boat 11 left (about 5 minutes at 1;30), Boat 13 leaves, then followed very shortly by Boat 15 at 1:34.
@@danieldoesstuff18 Btw, what are your thoughts on the lego ship I built last night on the stream out of interest?
@@IloveCruiseShips1912 tbh I didn’t watch it so I don’t know sorry
@@danieldoesstuff18 That's ok.
Btw, what were your thoughts on my explanation above as to why I believe the second option out of interest?
