A tool he could've taken advantage of here is the Aura Knuckles. Putting a magical unit into War Master, or War Monk is a prime excuse to use a magical weapon. Especially considering that they're easy to forge and virtually unlimited in repairs.
Sounds like backwards thinking to me. We live in a very specialized, interdependent society, focusing on your strengths would allow you to excel in an area. Our education system is horrendously archaic and in desperate need of modernization.
Thats kinda because of each class having a minimum for each stat, so if your units are too bad the game automatically buffs them when you upgrade your class. So a recent experience of this was my Lysithea getting +7 strength when I got her into Swordmaster. Btw I would definitely recommend maddening, because otherwise there's no challenge at all really, some of these wrong builds get super good believe me.
@@luukjansen4221 I had alot of good builds and like a handful of meh builds on hard mode and I still plowed through it. Maddening actually made me have to read the stats on both sides in order to pass just the first class tournament and I still lost two units anyways. I can't imagine doing this on classic, I would literally stop playing three houses.
@@luukjansen4221 just going to say that Maddening isnt satisfying to me at a certain point. Once you get past the second battle of Gronder field(have absolutely no issues before that point, even Reunion at Dawn aint bad if you actually used your own house units enough), i swear it feels like they suddenly had to quadruple the difficulty as my fastest unit who doubled the entire time is suddenly 20 speed behind the basic grunts, it just gets annoying. The only game ive actually succeeded on the hardest modes are Fates, all three routes, and idk why, but TH just feels unfun when you get the entire map cleared out, but suddenly Nemesis takes no damage from any of your units besides two that he's guaranteed to hit and without critting two-shot.

Dorothea has a flying weakness along with a low speed growth and of course even lower strength, so wyvern lord could very well be her worst class Idk why Mercedes is in Falcon Knight though she has the speed to pull it off somewhat

Makes her a better stride bot, she can canto after using a bow, gets incredible mov, etc. That alone makes it better than say a fortress knight or swordmastsr mercedes or dorothea. ((Also wasnt her speed growth something pretty avg like 40% or something?)) The flying weakness shouldnt be too big of a deal as long as you arent hoping to S+ it, haha. @@dylzoe Still, wyvern lord Dorothea is a struggle and I feel she does Swordmaster better due to her sword boon and the class better utilizing speed, along with Astra. The stride bot thing makes sense but you can do that with anyone, without the niche stuff you can do with all of the units I still think Dorothea’s worst class is Wyvern lord. Also this vid goes off of master classes only, Lysithea would absolutely be worse in fortress Knight for example

I did something like this too. I call it a “joke playthrough.” I tried to put everyone in classes that don’t fit them at all. It’s pretty hilarious when you do something like this. Congrats on this tho. This was great! Idk how you managed to do this on silver snow. This map is insane!
This map was really tough especially since this was my first route and three houses was my first FE game. I learned that splitting my troupes and going fast was a mistake
And the only other characters that do Are manuela (who has a bane in reason) And constance (who is dlc) I’ve used a magic hilda multiple tumes and she’s pretty good (i use her as a dancer or gremory whenever I do)

Nixahma Chill, it’s just someone having fun with a meme. I’m pretty sure most people actually love Ferdinand (including me), both as a character and as a unit. If Akechi in Persona 5 can be reduced to just the one pancake line he said by the entire fandom despite being one of the most complex (and also popular) characters in the game, people can sure as hell meme for smaller things.
I did a run where all magically oriented units became Great Knights and i turned all physical powerhouses into mages. Turns out some units are way too good no matter where you take them. Looking at you, Felix and Annette.
I did a run which included Mercedes punching everyone to death. Turns out she's another "good at unexpected classes" unit. Ashe also made a surprisingly good Fortress Knight. He wound up heavily resistant to physical AND magic damage, but kept an insane crit rate and speed for double-striking.
@@breesnutz Gremory or dark knight. Gremory for the extra magic (+5 mag I believe), or dark knight for easier training(budding talent in riding, good at lances)
I'm thinking of doing a shitty classes run someday (probably Blue Lions since it's arguably the most serious route and I'm doing Golden Deer for Maddening) and this has given me a few awful ideas I could use for it, so thanks.
I would actually suggest doing a few extra rules to make it more challenging then... A few i use is the "bottom feeder" rule, where i can ONLY use the units who are the lowest level (or need the most EXP for a new level if two units you must use are the same level), regardless of how well they work as a team. I also limit myself to one weapon per character, and no weapons at all on pure magic classes like mages and priests... On top of this, i pretty much NEVER use Byleth, as it's basicly impossible to make them bad...
Yeah, the game really isn't all that hard unless you play maddening. I just do whatever I feel like while playing hard and usually don't really have a challenge until near the end of the playthrough
When i make meme runs i just look at the units i havent used alot and make them classes that kind of fit thwir personality/they have a budding talent for. So great knight bernie cause heavy armor is just a movable room, dancer sylvain cause the booty dancing meme etc.
My friend argues that Flayn's best class is being an armored unit/ Great Knight because she has stupid high res which most armored units lack and just by being in an armored class gives you a base defense it helps patch up her low defense stat (along with growth rate bonus by being in the class), making her a great mixed tank. But mostly because she's outclassed as a healer and pegasus knight by other units.
She can't use rescue then which is a great spell. Not to mention fortify If you want the defense, certify her as fortress knight/armored knight, get the class bases, and then switch back to bishop for her faith utility

Agreed on Raphel, I'm done it plenty of times especially after getting the DLC, he fits so perfectly into the War Monk class. Another odd one that I've found very fun was Wyvern Master Yuri, a pain in the ass the reach but surprising overpowered and I never once equipped him with an axe.
Jokes on you, I made Raph a dark bishop on my very first playthrough! with like 7 stat boosters he was somewhat-kinda-maybe decent! But in all honesty, it's really fun to have a tanky mage, I hope IS makes an armored mage class someday.
There are armored mages in FE 4. Both the Baron and Emperor class utilize magic, but they belong to no playable units. Kind of a shame. An armored magic-user Lord would be pretty unique and refreshing. Provided they're actually good.
Fates magical hybrid classes are kinda like magic tanks. Oni Chieftain in particular is supposed to be kinda like a Hoshidan armor knight that uses magic
Leigh Needleman can attest to this, did my first maddening run recently on Silver Snow and the first few turns are brutal because you’re so inundated with enemy units, plus Seteth is nowhere near as good as a Lord unit (from my experience). Thank goodness for Falcon Knight Petra and Gremory Lysithea
@@hexmaniacciaran Well, by chapter 21 your Seteth should def be good by then, since he's had some time to grow. Swift strikes and his good growths and weapon ranks have always made him excellent for me. Plus he's a wyvern and that's already leading towards the best possible master class for him. I didn't play on maddening but hard classic instead for silver snow. I was definitely surprised but falcon knight Bernadetta somehow got MVP for me on that map. Fliers and bows work wonders here: movement and bows to deal with all the flying white beasts. Wyvern Petra, wyvern Ferdinand, wyvern Seteth, and falcon knight Catherine put in a lot of work here as well.
At some point I want to try doing a talent run of 3houses. Can only use units who have a budding talent and have to build them to it. No special classes (lord classes, enlightened one, dancer) and they have to spec into classes of their talent. As long as it is required to pass the exam. And they can only use a certain weapon if it was also part of the exam pass requirements. So ashe for instance would build through cavalry lines generally but could end as a wyvern since they have a requirement on lances. Marianne could end in dark or holy knight but has to build through the cavalier path and only could access magic at the end I think the best units would be: Dorothea, Flayn, Hilda, Bernie, Ferdie, Claude Worst would probably be Mercedes and Lysithea. Lysithea is too squishy and has minimal strength growths but at least could end in mortal savant I guess. Mercedes though with bows misses out on all her magic and healing, plus doesn't have stellar strength growths
Ferdinand is a master of all traits so of course he would be great, also mortal savant is probally edelgards best not mounted class but at this point is competing with pegasus knight

i did falcon knight mercedes once that was fun i've also done wyvern lord yuri (he has weakness in all three lance, axe, and flying) and he still turned out great
Wyvern Lord Yuri probably turned out great because of the class being one of the if not the strongest class in the entire game. From what I can remember, everyone that focuses on physical damage (though Annette goes that route as well due to her magic axe combat art and weak support spell list) should go wyvern lord, even if some skills required are their banes (exceptions being Dimitri and one or two characters that you stick into the Sniper and Grappler class for that sweet multi-hit combat art). Falco Knights are not too far behind in power. Fliers are seriously broken in this game.

I made Bernadette a mage in my original play through because I originally thought she was one for a long time (I had to recruit her) and I was mad that she wasn’t. I also made Flayn an armoured knight as a joke because I didn’t need another healer or mage AND SHE IS VERY GOOD! With enough investment she gets pretty good defense, and with her natural res growth she’s AMAZING

Honestly though, War Master Lin, especially if you take the time to have him be a War Monk first and max that, does pretty amazing. All those brawling avoid skills, aura knuckles, great.
All praise Grappler Hanneman for his Fierce Iron Fist with Aura Gauntlets! I think the Magic Staff also boosts these magic-based weapons, so it isn't a complete meme, but actually somewhat viable.
There are 2 challenge runs I've considered doing for the longest time, but have never had the motivation to pick this game back up to do them: This, & a "One-Trick Pony" challenge, where any & all students you recruit have to be in 1 specific Master class by the end of the game(has to be accessible by both genders). Ideally, the easy mode choice is Mortal Savant, because no Riding/Flying, but you could choose other classes if you're feeling brave.
Finally someone else who gets as much joy out of this as I do. Having maddening runs where my mvp is great knight Annette. Even did full solo runs with the likes of falco knight Mercedes, great knight Ashe. Next one I'm planning is (with mods) war master Lysethia
This video encouraged me to either do a Wyvern Rider only run or a War Master only run for all routes Edit: OR a Swordmaster only run or a Mortal Savant only run
You inspired me to do something similar in Fates, I did a S Support Class Swap, have 1 magic unit marry a strength unit amd partner seal them and get each other's classes. It get's painful. I singlehandedly almost ruined Mozu by making her a Dark Knight while my avatar in turn becomes a Sniper which isnt too bad honestly.
There was a part of me who wanted to do a run like this but instead I resorted to making everyone a mage in my golden deer run lol So kinda half the units getting their worst possible builds lol
I started a random class run for maddening... Annette got sniper, so I get to eventually have a Bow Knight Annette for my first maddening/classic/NO NG+ run.
I mean, I did a maxed out run where I got every character maxed out in supports, skills and skill levels. (No I didn't get every character to level 99, but I did get to 60.) Literally took me over 300 play hours to do. This was in Blue Lions as it is the longest playthrough with the most recruitable characters. Golden Deer/Silver Snow had one less recruitable character, and Crimson Flower had smaller amount of chapters. After it was over, I swore I would never play 3 Houses for a year (I've had enough 3H to last me the rest of my life, at least that's what I think). Think of it as New Year's resolution not made on New Year's.
you'd be amazed how good Lindhart is as a War Master, 36% chance to pass and he aced it he crits like a mofo so often and he's only using iron knuckles granted this is on normal difficulty but still its awesome
I'm doing a SS run where all my team are the mages... and magical Hilda. All of them will be trained in other weapons too, just in case I need them to be.

i wish all non-magic units had decent spells so you could still reliably build them,,, like mage caspar really by out here on nosferatu fire and bolganone and thats it
I’d suggest sword master Lysithea, but she gets access to soulbalde(?) Via budding talent, so that nullify the shit aspect of that. If you were to do this again, perhaps give some of those hybrid classes a try, with the restriction being no use of class abilities that work around the negatives of a unit, something about a war cleric on a unit not meant for punching seems hella funny
Absolutely hilarious lmao, but one suggestion. Probably should’ve put Dorothea as a Holy knight because she has banes with Riding and Faith and For a Wyvern lord she is ok with Lances and Axes

Petra is always stronger than most units though. Dancer is a really had use of Petra. The only real benefit it has for her is Sword Avoid +20 and Sword Dance. Her spell pool and magic are bad and she's too good at combat to be using turns dancing. Its better to use a unit with a decent spell pool/magic stat and inferior combat who would perform better as a support unit, like Flayn or Ignatz. Petra's best classes are Wyvern Lord and Bow Knight like most other units, but especially her. Falcon Knight is also a solid option. There's nothing wrong with playing how you want of course! But calling Dancer Petra's best class is pushing it a bit lol.

@@l.n.3372 Aahh, I wish I had thought of that! Alas, I tend to keep the house leaders close to what their unique timeskip classes are. I had Byleth as a Falcon Knight and Dorothea as a Dark Flier. Caspar was a War Monk, Ferdinand was a Holy Knight, Linhardt was my dancer, and Petra was an assassin.

If you ever are up for another fun challenge, pick a route and stick to characters you tend to pair up, then use them as their partner's opposite class instead xD So for example, if you pair up Ferdinand and Dorothea, use them as their opposite class. I typically make wyvern Ferdinand and dancer/gremory Dorothea. So, wyvern Dorothea and dancer Ferdie xD it's fun! But silly. Which is the best type lol
On maddening, I made hubert a sniper and he was actually really good. The great part was that if I ever came up against an enemy with high def I could just use the magic bow to kill them

It's a good idea to certify your units in the worst possible class as soon you can to take as much advantage of those boosts as possible.
You can make anyone any class and they will work out with enough Grinding

I did a run where all magically oriented units became Great Knights and i turned all physical powerhouses into mages.
Turns out some units are way too good no matter where you take them. Looking at you, Felix and Annette.
I always made Felix the sword/magic final class
Mage Felix is so underrated, Heck, he was the first unit I had to master both DLC classes.
I did a run which included Mercedes punching everyone to death. Turns out she's another "good at unexpected classes" unit.
Ashe also made a surprisingly good Fortress Knight. He wound up heavily resistant to physical AND magic damage, but kept an insane crit rate and speed for double-striking.

I just love the dancer Bernie aesthetic, I don’t min-max or anything I just keep her with a bow and train her in sword (even though she sucks at it)
Also Dancer Bernie can learn pass if you teach her in riding making her the perfect dancer por LTC strats
It would be nice if she had the magic stat to utilize it well...

I'm thinking of doing a shitty classes run someday (probably Blue Lions since it's arguably the most serious route and I'm doing Golden Deer for Maddening) and this has given me a few awful ideas I could use for it, so thanks.
I would actually suggest doing a few extra rules to make it more challenging then...
A few i use is the "bottom feeder" rule, where i can ONLY use the units who are the lowest level (or need the most EXP for a new level if two units you must use are the same level), regardless of how well they work as a team. I also limit myself to one weapon per character, and no weapons at all on pure magic classes like mages and priests...
On top of this, i pretty much NEVER use Byleth, as it's basicly impossible to make them bad...

Yeah, the game really isn't all that hard unless you play maddening. I just do whatever I feel like while playing hard and usually don't really have a challenge until near the end of the playthrough

When i make meme runs i just look at the units i havent used alot and make them classes that kind of fit thwir personality/they have a budding talent for. So great knight bernie cause heavy armor is just a movable room, dancer sylvain cause the booty dancing meme etc.
My friend argues that Flayn's best class is being an armored unit/ Great Knight because she has stupid high res which most armored units lack and just by being in an armored class gives you a base defense it helps patch up her low defense stat (along with growth rate bonus by being in the class), making her a great mixed tank.
But mostly because she's outclassed as a healer and pegasus knight by other units.
I've always made flayn the dancer since she joins with enough charm to not have to spend a bunch of time raising it

If you want the defense, certify her as fortress knight/armored knight, get the class bases, and then switch back to bishop for her faith utility

Agreed on Raphel, I'm done it plenty of times especially after getting the DLC, he fits so perfectly into the War Monk class. Another odd one that I've found very fun was Wyvern Master Yuri, a pain in the ass the reach but surprising overpowered and I never once equipped him with an axe.

But in all honesty, it's really fun to have a tanky mage, I hope IS makes an armored mage class someday.
Well, for the game he's in, Boey from Echoes is a pretty tanky mage.
There are armored mages in FE 4. Both the Baron and Emperor class utilize magic, but they belong to no playable units. Kind of a shame. An armored magic-user Lord would be pretty unique and refreshing. Provided they're actually good.

Fates magical hybrid classes are kinda like magic tanks. Oni Chieftain in particular is supposed to be kinda like a Hoshidan armor knight that uses magic

Silver Snow is hardest of the 4 final maps even on normal mode. On maddening it's borderline insane
Leigh Needleman can attest to this, did my first maddening run recently on Silver Snow and the first few turns are brutal because you’re so inundated with enemy units, plus Seteth is nowhere near as good as a Lord unit (from my experience). Thank goodness for Falcon Knight Petra and Gremory Lysithea

Well, by chapter 21 your Seteth should def be good by then, since he's had some time to grow. Swift strikes and his good growths and weapon ranks have always made him excellent for me. Plus he's a wyvern and that's already leading towards the best possible master class for him.
I didn't play on maddening but hard classic instead for silver snow. I was definitely surprised but falcon knight Bernadetta somehow got MVP for me on that map. Fliers and bows work wonders here: movement and bows to deal with all the flying white beasts. Wyvern Petra, wyvern Ferdinand, wyvern Seteth, and falcon knight Catherine put in a lot of work here as well.
Beasthardt was the true mvp.
It was hard seeing Mercy and Annie go down together. Especially with how cool your Mercy was.

I made mine a warcleric she is surprisingly good at it
At some point I want to try doing a talent run of 3houses. Can only use units who have a budding talent and have to build them to it. No special classes (lord classes, enlightened one, dancer) and they have to spec into classes of their talent. As long as it is required to pass the exam. And they can only use a certain weapon if it was also part of the exam pass requirements. So ashe for instance would build through cavalry lines generally but could end as a wyvern since they have a requirement on lances. Marianne could end in dark or holy knight but has to build through the cavalier path and only could access magic at the end
I think the best units would be: Dorothea, Flayn, Hilda, Bernie, Ferdie, Claude
Worst would probably be Mercedes and Lysithea. Lysithea is too squishy and has minimal strength growths but at least could end in mortal savant I guess. Mercedes though with bows misses out on all her magic and healing, plus doesn't have stellar strength growths
You can just use levin sword + though, scales off lysithea’s magic stat
Ferdinand is a master of all traits so of course he would be great, also mortal savant is probally edelgards best not mounted class but at this point is competing with pegasus knight
Anything works on Hard, still funny though. On Maddening 30 strength at the end is really bad, where as in Hard it is just fine.

Actually. Making mage characters like Lysithea into knight units is amazing. Jusy give them magic weapons. Do not underestimate how deadly magic weapons are in this game.

Wyvern Lord Yuri probably turned out great because of the class being one of the if not the strongest class in the entire game. From what I can remember, everyone that focuses on physical damage (though Annette goes that route as well due to her magic axe combat art and weak support spell list) should go wyvern lord, even if some skills required are their banes (exceptions being Dimitri and one or two characters that you stick into the Sniper and Grappler class for that sweet multi-hit combat art).
Falco Knights are not too far behind in power.
Fliers are seriously broken in this game.

Me who is playing new game plus on golden deer after beating black eagles, recruiting Bernadetta because that’s who I romanced, then realizing that I have too many ranged so build her as my dancer to side step the problem…
I made Bernadette a mage in my original play through because I originally thought she was one for a long time (I had to recruit her) and I was mad that she wasn’t.
I also made Flayn an armoured knight as a joke because I didn’t need another healer or mage AND SHE IS VERY GOOD! With enough investment she gets pretty good defense, and with her natural res growth she’s AMAZING
I forgot how freaking good this theme is.
This is the kind of game where anyone can be anything and still do pretty well (Unless this is on maddening mode)

Honestly though, War Master Lin, especially if you take the time to have him be a War Monk first and max that, does pretty amazing. All those brawling avoid skills, aura knuckles, great.
Some characters are surprising when it comes to their potential. Hanneman as a War Master + Aura Gauntlets + Magic Bow, not a bad combo.
All praise Grappler Hanneman for his Fierce Iron Fist with Aura Gauntlets!
I think the Magic Staff also boosts these magic-based weapons, so it isn't a complete meme, but actually somewhat viable.
Bolt Axe is better than Magic Bow, except against Fliers.

There are 2 challenge runs I've considered doing for the longest time, but have never had the motivation to pick this game back up to do them: This, & a "One-Trick Pony" challenge, where any & all students you recruit have to be in 1 specific Master class by the end of the game(has to be accessible by both genders). Ideally, the easy mode choice is Mortal Savant, because no Riding/Flying, but you could choose other classes if you're feeling brave.
Falcon knight mercedes is really strong with her personal gem that gets rid of your weaknesses (so bows in this case)
Finally someone else who gets as much joy out of this as I do. Having maddening runs where my mvp is great knight Annette. Even did full solo runs with the likes of falco knight Mercedes, great knight Ashe. Next one I'm planning is (with mods) war master Lysethia
This video encouraged me to either do a Wyvern Rider only run or a War Master only run for all routes
Edit: OR a Swordmaster only run or a Mortal Savant only run
You inspired me to do something similar in Fates, I did a S Support Class Swap, have 1 magic unit marry a strength unit amd partner seal them and get each other's classes. It get's painful. I singlehandedly almost ruined Mozu by making her a Dark Knight while my avatar in turn becomes a Sniper which isnt too bad honestly.
Corrin is good in nearly every class. The Heirs of Fate DLC Final Map reward makes bow users even better.

I started a random class run for maddening... Annette got sniper, so I get to eventually have a Bow Knight Annette for my first maddening/classic/NO NG+ run.
I’ve never seen non maddening silver snow final map. Maddening has like 20 enemies in range turn 1. Definitely a cool challenge though
I remember my first route accidentally being this and all I had left when I beat the boss was Catherine and I.

I mean, I did a maxed out run where I got every character maxed out in supports, skills and skill levels. (No I didn't get every character to level 99, but I did get to 60.)
Literally took me over 300 play hours to do.
This was in Blue Lions as it is the longest playthrough with the most recruitable characters. Golden Deer/Silver Snow had one less recruitable character, and Crimson Flower had smaller amount of chapters.
After it was over, I swore I would never play 3 Houses for a year (I've had enough 3H to last me the rest of my life, at least that's what I think). Think of it as New Year's resolution not made on New Year's.

I’d suggest sword master Lysithea, but she gets access to soulbalde(?) Via budding talent, so that nullify the shit aspect of that. If you were to do this again, perhaps give some of those hybrid classes a try, with the restriction being no use of class abilities that work around the negatives of a unit, something about a war cleric on a unit not meant for punching seems hella funny

A holy knight can use reason which Dorothea excels in and she has a budding talent in faith so the only weakness would be riding

Petra is always stronger than most units though. Dancer is a really had use of Petra. The only real benefit it has for her is Sword Avoid +20 and Sword Dance. Her spell pool and magic are bad and she's too good at combat to be using turns dancing.
Its better to use a unit with a decent spell pool/magic stat and inferior combat who would perform better as a support unit, like Flayn or Ignatz.
Petra's best classes are Wyvern Lord and Bow Knight like most other units, but especially her. Falcon Knight is also a solid option.
There's nothing wrong with playing how you want of course! But calling Dancer Petra's best class is pushing it a bit lol.

Sounds like fun! If you ever are up for another fun challenge, pick a route and stick to characters you tend to pair up, then use them as their partner's opposite class instead xD
So for example, if you pair up Ferdinand and Dorothea, use them as their opposite class. I typically make wyvern Ferdinand and dancer/gremory Dorothea. So, wyvern Dorothea and dancer Ferdie xD it's fun! But silly. Which is the best type lol
On maddening, I made hubert a sniper and he was actually really good. The great part was that if I ever came up against an enemy with high def I could just use the magic bow to kill them
