Amazingly helpful to cut a hole in the door to show how it works and then demonstrate with different camera angles, natural teacher as well as mechanic, which is what we need!
@@BMACVAGS its 2 years since this post. I have a 99 Cabrio. There is not little thing to unhook to allow the interior to work. Neither will open the door and the interior appears to actually be broken. It doesn't snap back into the door. It remains sticking out. Help.
Just tried this, my rear door has been useless for months and the shops & dealers had no advice, they were estimating at least $1000 just to get the door open again by drilling the panel from the inside. Did this myself, no damage to the door (no damage from this procedure anyways) took all of 5 minutes. Thanks a bunch!
I’m so grateful for this video I’m a little lady busy with work and being a mom. I had just had the actuator changed so I was like wtf. The door wouldn’t open. Your video was the only one of its kind. I asked my mechanic to help. But I’m such a do it myself type of person and extremely impatient . Thankful for it because I got my door to open with the first remedy by pushing the cable back with a pick. And I saved money and was able to diagnose it via youtube. Thank you for a super informative clip. Please advise: "Just remove the plastic cap" you say. That's cool, but easier said than done. Please would you explain how to jump through this hoop?
Ha ha - this is why I love this channel - cutting side of the door out to show what's going on. Very nice! Pretty much as you said in the video, I heard that this can happen if that metal hinged piece(that the cables joined to) didn't return fully to it's rest position after it was last opened. Some people said they remedied this without removing the panels, by removing just the keyhole part of the door handle, taking that black plastic part that holds the cable in place out of the handle, and putting it back into the handle further down (further away from you) - i.e. to ensure the metal piece goes all the way to the rest position after use. But another video said there's a spring in there that can interfere with the travel of this metal piece. So I guess that would require getting in there and the panelling remove. I wish they'd make these sodding things easier to get into. Every time something like this happens the anticipation gives me a stroke.
Excellent tip and I like the staple gun analogy... Couldn't open my MkV golf passenger door from either inside or out. Poked the cable in as suggested here and can now open from the inside... Which allows me access to the remove the panel and the locking mechanism. Nice one :-)
I just tried the first method after being quoted $450.00 by my mechanic for a new internal door mechanism. It worked and the door works perfectly. No need for the coat hanger. Thanks so much :)
I watched so many videos on this and still didn't make sense on how it was actually working but with that hole cut it door was so easy fair play to you thanks
To easily reposition the lock cable in the door handle, first remove the lock by losening the retaining bolt inside the side of the door. This will allow the lock module to come out. Once out grab some needle nose pliers, use it to grab the cable to stop it going inside the door, take the black bit out of its position, reposition it and let go of the cable. Repeat until the door works correctly. Replace the lock and tighten the retaining bolt.
watching again as i need to do mine today, im amazed at how much detail you put in to the videos. it makes it so easy to understand and easier for someone to do that doesnt know really how they work.
I just gave you ten likes. I managed tyo get my car door open after justs three minutes from starting to find a piece of wire to opening the door. Good thing I didn't start watching at 2:39 and followed step by step from there, as my not-so-good friend suggested I do.
If this occurs after you've done work that required removing the lock, it's because instinctively you've reset the cable in the grooves of the outside door handle as far as you could from the actuator (because this gives you the biggest range of pull) but that's incorrect because in this position it's like it has already been engaged and thus won't open again. You need to reset the cable in about the middle of the grooves... You do this and your problem is actually fixed permanently (unless the issue you're facing is due to something actually being broken). If you look at this for any of your doors that hasn't been touched from factory, you'll see they're all set this way.
I am having difficulty in opening my door after fitting a new actuator, I think I did not hook up the preloaded spring when installing the actuator, now I'm stuck with a completely shut door . I'm fearing that it would need to be cut open. Any advice please?
If you own an mk4 golf or any other related VW models that use the same parts, bora pasat, probably even some smaller Audis from the same years this channel is a must have for all that brilliant German engineering on the most basic of things that fail across the board in these cars (its always the same common issues that you don't seem to get on similar age Japanese buckets lol brilliant channel. 👌

@BMAC VAGS Thank you for this video. The VW Repair shop here in Korea said it they would have to cut a hole in the door to replace the locking module and cost 1.000.000₩ ($1,000)! Made the tool by your specs and followed your directions. Once the cable was inside the door, I was able to open the door from the inside. Brilliant!
Love it! Great work! Yes, you almost gave me a heart-attack as well for a split second! Thought I had to cut out a part of the door! Really gives a great view and shows exactly what you were doing!

Thank you it fixed my problem!!! I spent about 30 Seconds and door opened! Prior to it I was replacing window regulator and set little cable on door handle to tight. Closed my door and can't open it no more, from inside or from outside. As soon as I released the cable door opened. Next I removed door lock and adjusted the cable to seat 5 mm away from previous position. Checked my door before closing to see if it opens. And it did. Thank you so very much!! And yes your video is fun to watch!!!

Just a quick note to say thank you very much, I had just changed the actuator, closed the door to test it and couldn't open it again, BMAC VAG to the rescue.
I had to remove the lock while wrapping the car. Then when all put back, this happened. Wiggled quite a bit to catch the bugger because plunger was stuck half way but I'm very glad it worked. So, keep trying people. It's better than making a hole on your door inside or outside. I've read some people were offered exactly that by a dealer service. Wow. Thank you a lot man. Subbed! Now I'm going to make sure the entire module is clean by removing it completely after so much trouble already!
Thank you very much for posting this video, after fitting a new lock module I couldn't open my driver's door from the inside or outside. Your first trick got me out of trouble, much appreciated because you probably saved me a load of money
Easy once you open the door, take the side screw to the key knob from inside the door then we’re the key goes you wiggle that a little with a screw and it just slides right out, the reverse instructions to put it back together
A big Thank you from San Francisco. Couldn't understand why someone tried to break into my car through the door handle. They broke the lock and the handle. I was opening the door from the inside with my cane from the back seat, and the interior handle hyper extended so it won't open from the inside. I have to open it to replace them. Now I know how!
Awesome video. I was scared to death when you starting the saw, but a few seconds later I realized you were just doing that to expose the magic that happens inside. LOL. Does this work on all doors, or do only the ones with key access have that panel to pop off?
Brilliant door opened with in minutes with the coat hanger! Lock was stuck open but managed to shut it the same way but at least can now fix it by getting the panel off when the door is open. Next job! Thanks again!
You are a magician, you save to paid a lot of money. The second method realy works, even in the rear doors. Thank you so much. Greetings from Argentina.
Anyone ideas for what to do with deadlocked rear passenger door? How can the door be released? This is for a 2001 Seat Leon but assume being a VAG car answer will be the same? Have inside panel off.
You'll need a surface-to-air missile. From a distance of at least 500m focus your telescope sights exactly on the centre of the lock and then fire. The door should then allow access after the remnants have cooled. N.B. do not do this if there are people or pets anywhere within the blast radius.
Thanks very much. This was the most informative video and the only one that helped. Took me twenty mins to make the tool and four or five goes at getting it open and then it worked. Thanks again
Amazing video! I replaced my speakers and locked my door shut, but I think this will be the perfect solution! Well explained, straight to the point - I never leave TH-cam comments but this one deserves it
you know I gave you that door so that you would have an extra door for your golf. if you weren't going to use it you could have given it back but no you had to cut it up. only kidding great video solve my problem both front and rear doors thanks again. Sorry for my bad sense of humor.
My driver side window was frozen shut. After trying to open it my window fell into the door panel. Me as a N00B in the car game, removed my door panel to place the window in the fittings. After reassembling the door and lock. I was locked inside my car. Went out of my car through the passenger side along with some laughs coming from my neighbours. I removed the plastic in the door handle. And after that I could open it from the outside! After putting the plastic back in the fitting everything suddenly started working again! Long story short, Thanks for your video it helped me a LOT. Sorry for long post here's a potato🥔
Thank you so much for this video. Put a non-VW door lock on our Golf which then would not release the door (from inside or outside). Your wire hook worked and the door opened!
Thank you so much! I replaced the regulator in my door and when I built it all back up I couldn’t get into my car inside and out. Just adjusted the cable like you did in the begging and worked
Very cool. I've been struggling with trying to figure out the problem with the rear door on a 2010 Wolfsburg for a while now. Went back to the project today, ran across this vid...boom, door is open. Thanks.

i had the cjhild lock on and the cable wasnt in the outside handle anymore. this helped me very much, i made the shim from an old bucket handle and it the door popped open after the 3rd pry. thank you very much
You´re the man! Just opened my wifes Fabia the way described in your clip. Easy as it gets! The only problem I experienced was remoinge the the thing around the key hole. Thank you! :)
Man you saved me a lot of money. I was about to buy lockers and try to open from inside. I was thinking this but never think that ye cable have space to go back. The black plastic thing. Big tank you man. 😋
Thank you BMAC from Nairobi, Kenya - had similar problem and was worried how it will be fixed, tried it and it worked like a charm! Keep up the good work.
best video I have seen on the subject. wondering if this applicable to the MK7 platform? MY drivers side passenger door is stuck closed. the lock unlock switch seems to be broken.
Thanks man, you just saved my bacon :) Also for those who's wondering in which position to leave that cable tip. Well it depends. Try to leave it somewhere in the middle. Other wise it can put unnecessary strain on the lock and cable, meaning you may run out of adjustment when the lock starts to wear.
Watched your video for ideas on an 2008 Golf Plus , made up the coat hanger went in through the hole as you said and VWALLLA, it opened on the first try! thank you man!!
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!! I've got a mk5 and recently had to restore some of the cables that go through the door. Unfortunately my handle isn't as tight anymore and 2 weeks ago this happened to me. Apparently I did not reset the spring in the correct position hence the lose handle. Thanks very much for sharing this solution, you are a lifesaver.
I had a similar problem with a 2019 VW Caddy rear sliding door. Handle on inside and outside got stuck. Unable to open. After watching a few videos and before unclipping the cable from the outside as shown in this video I decided to give the door a few hard bumps. I did this with the palm of my hand around the area of the handle on the outside. I think it also got the lever on the inside unstuck and the door mechanism worked perfectly after that! Of course it will not work for all the problems, but worth a try before going down the steps shown in this video.

Amazing video! I replaced my speakers and locked my door shut, but I think this will be the perfect solution! Well explained, straight to the point - I never leave TH-cam comments but this one deserves it
I appreciate that, Thank you very much
you know I gave you that door so that you would have an extra door for your golf. if you weren't going to use it you could have given it back but no you had to cut it up. only kidding great video solve my problem both front and rear doors thanks again. Sorry for my bad sense of humor.
lol....Thank you for watching
This video saved me a lot of money. vw wanted £1000 to replace the lock. thank you so much.
I will try.hope fully work with my car. how ever thank you vary much.
Amnach Tongsaeng Thank you for taking the time to comment
My driver side window was frozen shut. After trying to open it my window fell into the door panel. Me as a N00B in the car game, removed my door panel to place the window in the fittings. After reassembling the door and lock. I was locked inside my car. Went out of my car through the passenger side along with some laughs coming from my neighbours. I removed the plastic in the door handle. And after that I could open it from the outside! After putting the plastic back in the fitting everything suddenly started working again!
Long story short,
Thanks for your video it helped me a LOT.
Sorry for long post here's a potato🥔
Glad it helped
The passenger front door locked on my 2005 vw touran. I have tried these but still not working. any idea?
This is to open the unlocked door, not a locked one I thought
Thank you so much for this video. Put a non-VW door lock on our Golf which then would not release the door (from inside or outside). Your wire hook worked and the door opened!
thanks clear but my car's door has no key hole and doesnt open from inside or outside! :-0( .
Same here; it's the back door that doesn't open.
arman makhzani same her
did you fix it?
Have similar issue. Dealer says they have to cut away/break the internal door board cover to get to the mechanism, then replace it...expensive!
Thank you so much! I replaced the regulator in my door and when I built it all back up I couldn’t get into my car inside and out. Just adjusted the cable like you did in the begging and worked
doesn't help me with driver rear door
Dont know why I havent subscribed before, you have gotten me out of the shit several times already. Thanks for the clear and correct presentations!
how to break into a volkswagen 101
Is it?
+Greenski Volkswagen Tips & Tricks (Greenski Vape and Review) lol, I want to know how you make a dremel silent too XD
I thought the same thing. This could be understood by some people like that.
Break in by mimicing a door handle that would open nomally when unlocked.., I think not Greenski
We had this problem on a Polo. But we enjoyed the clear and likeable way you presented your videos. Loved the angle grinder moment too lol.
Thanks Bro, when ever I have a problem in my MK4 Bora; I refer one of your videos, you've made my life easy, keep it up, love ya.
Very cool. I've been struggling with trying to figure out the problem with the rear door on a 2010 Wolfsburg for a while now. Went back to the project today, ran across this vid...boom, door is open. Thanks.
Big Up My G! Door Wasn't Opening From Inside Or Outside, Watched Lodes Of Vids But No Luck, Went To A Garage They Said Go To An Electrician, The Electrician Said Its Dead Lock, Now Watching This Video I Managed To Open The Door! 😅😂🤣 I Never Subscribe, Like Or Comment On TH-cam, But For This I Had To! Your One Genius G 💯💚
I appreciate that
YO!! I've been struggling with this for 2 years and your tutorial worked like a charm thanks
Glad it helped!
I did how he described the process and it worked! I love this man! I thought I was screwed.
Out of quite a few videos on this topic that I have looked at - yours is way ahead for clarity and info - cheers.
Awesome, thank you!
It worked the first method.super easyyy to do thank you. I changed the entire door on my mk5 and i tought i was screwed because of the electrical wires from new door not be compatible with the car electric sistem and the door not opening anymore.thats what i tought . Thanks again
I was certain I was in for a lot of trouble until I saw this video
Very much thanks...I had my new latch pull adjusted to deep
nice one boydie checked this video and managed to open the door with a wire hanger within 5 mins! top man
2001 Audi TT. Was locked out and completely stumped until your vid. Thanks!!
Why would someone give this a thumbs down. It’s a perfect demonstration and a great help.
i had the cjhild lock on and the cable wasnt in the outside handle anymore.
this helped me very much, i made the shim from an old bucket handle and it the door popped open after the 3rd pry.
thank you very much
That is one of the best DIY videos I have seen. Well done dude
Thanks 👍
You're a genius my friend; just managed to open the passenger door on my passat today using your method. Thank you!
You´re the man! Just opened my wifes Fabia the way described in your clip. Easy as it gets! The only problem I experienced was remoinge the the thing around the key hole. Thank you! :)
Some guys are just better than the rest . Bloody good mate
Man you saved me a lot of money. I was about to buy lockers and try to open from inside. I was thinking this but never think that ye cable have space to go back. The black plastic thing. Big tank you man. 😋
Wish I had watched this 3 years ago. You're brilliant. :)
Thanks man, you just saved my bacon :)
Also for those who's wondering in which position to leave that cable tip. Well it depends. Try to leave it somewhere in the middle. Other wise it can put unnecessary strain on the lock and cable, meaning you may run out of adjustment when the lock starts to wear.
Thanks for that mate 👌
Watched your video for ideas on an 2008 Golf Plus , made up the coat hanger went in through the hole as you said and VWALLLA, it opened on the first try! thank you man!!
Glad it helped
