  • Briana was born with an oral cleft lip and palate but that was no obstacle for her. After four surgeries and more than 20 years, she is a beautiful, successful young woman. Gifts from our community through the Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital Foundation help support this vital program for babies born with this disfigurement.

I was born with a cleft lip and palate and growing up wasn’t easy. I was constantly getting made fun of for my speech, nose, and mouth by peers and strangers. So, watching this is amazing and heartfelt. ❤

I was born with cleft lip and palate and I would say the only real problem i have with it is looks, im decently attractive as is, i have a girlfriend and im popular at school, its just that insecurity of my lip, nose, and underbite. But everything aside from that is completely fine, i dont have many surgeries, but when i do i always come out fine. Basically im trying to tell others who are like me and have cleft lip/palate, that you shouldnt let the lip and shit get to you. Just be confident about yourself, and nothing can get to you. I let it make me insecure for years, but once i started realizing it didnt matter, EVERYTHING took a complete turn for the better.

@@coz8568 if i have to say anything about having cleft lip/palette, i’d say its a gift. It allows you to see things that most others cant as it means when you get friends, it means they like you for YOU, not your looks. God bless you, and hope you have an amazing day!!

I am so proud of her aswell despite of this she is still so brave.. i know how hard and tough the world is for people like us.. i don't have a cleft lip and or hard palate only a small split in my soft palate but it caused me to talk with a lisp and i have a pit on my lower lip which also caused me to pronounce words differently.. my brother and sister had it harder then me but i saw how much pain it caused them i am forever grateful for my grandparents they adopted us and gave us what we have now.. i am happily married toe a wonderful husband and i have a diploma in media and graphic designing.. and im a self taught artist... and we have a now 4 month old son who was born with a cleft lip and palate and we love him to bits... he is my sunshine.. and this is from a girl who grew up without a mother and a mother who complained to others she wanted normal kids.. its very mentally disturbing to us as kids and as grown adults.. they told me how does it feel to not even been loved by your own mother at primart schools its hard..

    My situation is different
I have a cleft lip caused by amniotic band syndrome, amniotic band syndrome is very rare already but it’s more uncommon to have a band or more latch on your face
so not only do I have a cleft lip that is slightly less relatable than others
But I also have fingers and toes harmed from amniotic bands.
I’m almost 14 but as I have grown more I have learned more things, how humans react, how I am unable to find others with this struggle, how students study what I have grown into for a successful career
there’s so much to this little body that wasn’t supposed to make it, a lot comes with it and I know it’s the same for everyone but I have a different view.
I genuinely wonder what I’d be like if I weren’t born with my differences- would I be more successful in school? Could I go outside without the worry of judgement? I don’t know and I know I won’t know what that’s like
When covid happened and everyone had to wear masks I found that I could hide my differences, I was able to hide my hand with my sleeve too, and nobody knew that I was different besides childhood friends, it started off as a normal thing then as a “oh this is a chance” then to me slowly going crazy
As my features were hidden I got more attention and I learned that I hated that, I lived a small bit of the view that other people got and it made me feel guilty that the new people I met didn’t really know me, I was only able to tell one person in that whole school of my features and they accepted me (💗)
But I am still too scared
All these different things I deal with are slowly sending me to psychological distress, like,
Is this all just a test to see how far someone like me will go? Does that sound crazy?
I don’t know but I don’t like it very much
I wonder If I was somewhat normal if I’d be dissociating or depressed
But I honestly don’t want to die, I do want to see how far I’ll go even if I don’t like the majority of this life I will still try my best
and my cats would be sad
