Heilung saved my ass... When my wife broke up with me after 14 years in 21, everything was so dark, lucky me I found Heilung. I watched LIFA over and over again and listened to it. It calmed me down. I thought, i REALLY thought I have seen and heard everything now as I listened to LIFA. That was until I went to a Heilung "concert" last December. Nothing, absolutely NOTHING you experience while watching these videos is even close to the experience you get when you are actually on a concert.
They saved my life, and I will be forever grateful.

Heilung is a German-Danish-Norwegian Nordic ritual folk band. According to their own statements, their music is based on original artifacts and traditional texts from the Iron Age and the Viking Age. They describe their music as "amplified history from early medieval northern Europe".

Heilung means healing. When they are on the stage, it is not a concert, but an actual ritual with the audience participating in the healing. Their best song imo, is "Anoana" from their new album (also a reaction favorite). Some of the members, including Maria Frank, also play in another more electronic project called Euzen which I have become very fond of also. It is not so well known, so it could use some reactor love. They also have a third group called Songleikr and there is a song "Ulvetime" that you simply must hear, Sabi, even if you don't react to it, and then you will sing it softly whenever you wake in the middle of the night from then on. (Edit: I forgot to pester you about the REN - HI REN reaction I want you to do. It WILL benefit your channel and you WILL love it)

    • @duikmans
      @duikmans ปีที่แล้ว +7

I can second that: Ulvetime is simply breathtaking!
I got to know Euzen first, as I saw them at Castlefest in 2014 and 2015. I was there in 2017, when Heilung performed their 1st ritual. I didn't have a clue who or what they were, but I heard somebody in the crowd say that it was a project of the people of Euzen, which made me curious (and I thought I knew what I could somewhat expect... silly me).
When they came on stage my first thought was simply: WTF!? And then the music started... I have attended a ritual 4 more times since then.

One of my favorites is Asja from the latest album Drif. And on the record it is followed by Anoana. Such a powerful combination to listen to.
Hakkerskaldyr is also a very intense one to listen to. The deep growling/singing is Tibetan throat singing.
I'm a Dane btw, listening to both Heilung and Wardruna

  • @drakonik2782
    @drakonik2782 ปีที่แล้ว +2

This song is so cool. As I understand it, it's about a village that just wants to have peace being forced to go to war. It starts off somber as they forge their weapons, and gets angry as they argue with those who threaten the people that just seem to want to fight them, "But you only understand the language of the sword." So poetic.

Just to add to the wow factor I believe this was their first live show. This whole "ritual" as they call their shows is phenomenal. Search Heilung Lifa.
I would highly recommend the official music video for a newer song called Anoana. It's very emotional. As for language I believe that they sing in roughly 13 different languages and Proto languages throughout their works.

I have seen them live and it is amazing! The whole performance is a ritual from the start to the finish! I am studying to learn German and was looking for German speaking bands to immerse myself into the language when I found them. I was fixated after that and needed to learn more about them. The ritual that I saw was amazing. I could describe it as life changing because it brought compassion, understanding and some peace back into my life after seeing them. Their motto is “Remember, we are all brothers. All people, beasts, tree and stone and wind, we all descend from the one great being that was always there, before people lived and named it, before the first seed sprouted.” Listen to “In Maidjan” if you really want to hear Maria Franz true vocal talent. Her and Christopher Juul also have 2 other musical projects, Songleikr( Nordic folk ) and Euzen ( modern contemporary) Check those out as well! Enjoy!

I saw them live a few months ago, I have never seen a show like this...and I have been to many shows. I am also a performer, this was mind altering. In a concert hall here in Maine, the audience of about 2000 people filled the hall to capacity, you could hear a pin drop when they brought it down, and then the crowd suddenly became deafening, then quiet again. Americans, singing in old Germanic, Norse and Danish. I've never seen anything like it. Amazing! They are diehard pagan. They live this way, every day. The band leaders are Maria, the vocalist, Kai, the throat singer and Christofer Juul, the man on the left side with the horn. He is the Dane and the founder of the collective. The rest of the group is from 6 different nations. Kai smudges the stage and audience and conducts a ritual for the performers before they begin. The current show has grown. As stated by a few people, this was their first show, it has changed to include dancers who sing. I could go on, but you just need to get to one of these performances. By the way, thank you for running the video direct and not from a microphone in the room, it sounds so much better for the viewer. Also, thank you for putting your comments in text form , letting the video run and letting us all, yourself included, enjoy it. It makes a difference and it is appreciated!

I've waited for years for a reactor to discover this music. I recommended this genre to a reaction couple I watched often but I wasn't a patron and nobody else ever requested anything in this genre. I created a playlist of this type of music and called it Pagan Folk. Every year there is a gathering in Scotland called Castle Fest where LIFA often appears with other groups of similar ilk. Now that you have made your reaction, hopefully others will discover this very rich but little known branch of music. I came to learn of it through an Austrian group called Faun and their song Federkleid. It is well worth a listen. But so is REN - HI REN.

I saw Heilung live in London this year in January and I still can't get it out of my head. Amazing performance!
Almost transports me back to the times of my ancestors who settled the UK from Denmark. ( I am Danish on Grandmother's side all the way back to the Danelaw)

This is a song about war. About a village that is attacked by other tribe. I cried when I watched the original MV because the mix of the lyrics, the feeling and the images made me cry a lot and feel bad. Despite being only drawings.
Fun fact: Maria is playing with human bones all the entire song. It were donated by a fan

    Hello Sabina,
that was awesome. The song inspired me right from the start. I immediately had the feeling that something special was happening here. I had never heard of this group before. I have to say that I live in Germany and am a big fan of Scandinavian music. Especially Sweden. These Danes totally blew me away. Of course I didn't understand the first part of the lyrics at all. And then I quickly translated the English part and that blew me away again. At first the song just sounded mystical, but not at all warlike. And then the singer started the second part and I was “at war”. I immediately thought of the Russian-Ukrainian war. This hypnotic sound was still playing in the background. And now this rough voice and the lyrics. That really tore me apart. It was nice to see that you felt the same way. The song shook you too, although perhaps for different reasons.
    Thank you for this presentation.
A word about your site. I've only just landed on your site. And your site is one of the best. Why? The music you present is not necessarily mainstream. And you really listen to it, you're interested in it. And you don't talk in between, you use subtitles. Your comments after the song show that you're really engaged with the music and not just spouting off empty phrases. Very important, you can see what the music does to you. Absolutely honest Very pleasant, thank you. I'm looking forward to more clips from you. 🎶💖☯☮

I discovered "Viking Music" on TH-cam, particularly the Fimbul Radio channel on Danheim page(?). I showed a friend of mine the channel and he really dug it as well. Later, he introduced me to Heilung and I was hooked instantly. I've always been fascinated with pagan mythology and this was the first music that truly felt spiritual to me. It still puts chills down my spine whenever I listen to it. Me and said friend that introduced me to them went to one of their "rituals" in Pittsburg this last summer and it was amazing. If there was a weekly ritual like that near where I live, I would go to it every week like church. Preferably outside under the full moon, but I guess that would be monthly. 😄

Stumbled across Heilung a while back, having been exploring "roots" music for a while from roots rock through blues and folk. I guess you can't get much more roots than this! Point is, coming from a rock and metal background I'd been thinking pretty much all had been done and where was music going to go? So I was searching and having found bands like the Hu Band, I think it was the throat singing that got me to Heilung. Now I'm pretty sure that this is the next leap forward, even if it is harking back 3,000 years. It's also surprising how many people say that this band's music has got them through hard times, considering some of it is pretty intense, but I'd venture that it really does reach down into our souls. I've seen native Americans and other animist or "tribal" people seeing a resemblance to their own rituals and that has to be telling. There are other bands in roughly this oeuvre, Skald, Warduna, Nytt Land and some others, all excellent. I do keep coming back to Heilung though. Thanks for doing this reaction.

Your reaction is as good as always
Krigsgaldr: Krig = war, like in Danish/Swedish and almost german
Galdr = The kind of song, that was sung by the Disas (Disor) when they took part in the defence or attack the warriors “performed”. Galdr = modern Scandinavian = Galder.
    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galdr
The dress of Maria Franz (the female singer) represents her introverted seeing, with the “normal” eyesight blocked
If you want to hear another galdr on youtube; listen to Eivor's famous Trodlabundin recorded in Norway. You have reacted to that already I think. th-cam.com/video/wsl-KHGe4Kk/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=1210beth

I have "LIFA" live on vinyl because of this performance, and the track "Fylgija Futhorck". Maria Franz's voice is AMAZING!!! Their latest super catchy works include tracks called "Norupo" and "Anoana" (both absolutely incredible!!, you should check out CharismaticVoice's reactions after you give them a listen yourself!!) I'll end with a copy-paste from the "Norupo" video description, though Heilung says this about all of their music (some people take art too literally without sadly):
Heilung is Amplified History from early medieval northern Europe and should not be mistaken for a modern political or religious statement of any kind.
Remember, that we all are brothers
All people, beasts, trees and stone and wind
We all descend from the one great being
    That was always there
Before people lived and named it
    Before the first seed sprouted

Dear Sabina, i was hoping for ages for you to react to this band.
An excellent idea is to not spoiling anything else for now.
Take Henri with you and make a stream of this entire live with her!! This is the live call LIFA at Castlefest festival 2017. You will never regret it! Heilung is an incredible experience, especially live. I saw them in France in december, it was incredible, truly. I really hope you will follow my advice. Peace.

Cheers from Sweden. I remember when i first heard their music it was a torch lighted up inside me. I just got mesmerized like if i knew this kind of music. Years before i had become more spiritual with our scandinavian nature feeling more at peace and at home in a deep forest or big mountain overlook. Its like my primal nature wants to break free the bonds we have in our society. I learned alot too by reading about nature "magic" that there exist leylines and especially in forests with old ancient trees. I actually found a place in sothern Sweden were old Fagus sylvatica (Bok-träd) made a perfect ring of trees and in that centre if you sit there its like time and space just disappear and you can really go into a resting trance. Great reaction by you andyou made me sub :). I would be probably be called a witch in christian Sweden prior to removal of religious laws :). Big hug and respect.
