Still a bit tricky to get the hang of but MUCH better than before.
this just enabled your channel to do more content on tanks that were never built. Now you have something to work on to make visualization of blueprint tanks
Hey cone, the 2 most important aspects of the suspension (torsion bars), are the length and thickness, the length allows for greater movement of the roadwheels, while the thickness makes the suspension stiffer. for an easy suspension, try these settings: Resting angle to 45 degrees Damping to max torsion bar length to minimum (because longer torsion bars lower the stiffness of the suspension) Thickness to maximum This creates the stiffest and most damped suspension (so the tank doesn't rock back and forth as much) and raises the tank up, so even if the weight is a bit high, the tank will not just slam on the ground. After that you can adjust it by what you need. Suspension too stiff? lower the thickness Tank too high from the ground? lower the resting angle want more movement range for the wheels? raise the length. If this doesn't work, there is also bogie suspension, which I find to need much less fiddling, however cannot support super big tanks. Hope this helps PS Smaller vehicles seem to steer relatively fine, but the controls are still kinda floaty, and the bigger you go, the more you will feel it.
The issue I have with the engine and suspension is that its not intuitive you can't see what the changed do and even when you make a ton of adjustments it still doesn't work the way it should
@@ConeOfArc you can make the suspension not bottom out by changing its angle. I was able to have a 500 ton tank drive around at 15kph and turn 360 in less than 8 seconds
Now I see this comment The first thing that you need to do is set the vertical travel of the suspension from normal ride height to fully compressed springs (bottomed out). The total vertical travel is twice this value (assuming the springs are linear). The springs are chosen so that the normal combat load of the vehicle compresses the springs halfway. The damping is chosen so that the amount of bounce in the suspension is limited. If the road wheels do not all carry the same load, you might need separate spring values for each road wheel. More about damping: Too much damping makes for a harsh ride as the springs cannot respond to sudden jolts. Too little damping and the ride height of the vehicle will start to oscillate with every jolt. A good amount of damping is enough to stop the oscillation before it starts a second cycle, or 'critically damped', in engineering speak.
I just did one of the scenarios with the pre-built "panther". It works properly with expected speed, etc. Opening it in designer mode gave me a good idea of what i was doing wrong. The steering problem was easily solved. You need TWO transmissions, one for each track or you have one unpowered track. Means you need to click on "copy drive" at the bottom of the transmission tab. I still can't figure out how to make an open top vehicle though.
Great Now I can pretend to be WG and make a "Historically accurate" medium tank with 270 mm of frontal Armor, a 150 mm Autoloader, and capable of 75+ kph and confidently call it a teir 8 premium.
I CAN FINALLY CREATE ALL MY DESIGNS! THANK YOU FIR SHOWING THIS TO ME, words cannot describe the happiness this video has given me, and the inspiration to become an engineer.
Dood I pulled the trigger on this before the video was even halfway through hahaha! Thank you so much for showing me this game. I'm going to have so much fun with it, I'm sure.
So happy to see that “Sprocket” is alive! This is truly a great year for tank fans. Sprocket now and “Arms Trade Tycoon Tanks” soon enough - and I am fully packed!!!
I was saddened when you decided to distance yourself from warthunder at the beginning of the year, but I'm finally starting to pull myself out of sorrow since you found this new tank game that fits perfectly with your channel theme like a miracle. Purely hoping that you'll keep us updated with this nice game too!
I think more people should follow Cones lead. War thunder is only getting worse, and too many people are addicted to it purely for the reason that theres no competition... Its sad.
Bro I've been waiting for a game like this for years, I always loved to study the internal and evolution of armour in the world and countries Only game that got me close to this was gmod and it's wonderful ACF mod. But now there's a game for this I'm genuinely happy.
This game looks very good, i search for a nice military vehicle construction game for around 7 years, i found a lot of nice games such as simple planes, besiege, crossout, machinecraft, etc... but none of them came close to this amount of detail, seems very well made, really like it
The issue people are having with tanks steering randomly is related to the torsion bar settings and damping. Adjusting them to proper levels solves the issue, it only took me a minute and the tank instantly gained about 15-20kph
finally, I can make the improvements to British tanks that I've always wanted to make... or I could just make ridiculous tanks that would make things like the Maus and Object-279 look tame in comparison
As a War Thunder player (former), I would have loved making my own IS tank. I would take the shape of the IS3, but with thinner armor and a 100mm cannon. As compensation, I'd use internal armor.
I do not know anything about Sprockets, but I do have a tiny bit of knowledge on suspensions. The first thing that you need to do is set the vertical travel of the suspension from normal ride height to fully compressed springs (bottomed out).
Suspension: Edit the wheel heights, which is very useful! With traction make the tracks larger. With the Transmission: High number in your gears is more climbing, lower is more speed. At least, so far in my experience
Suspension is done by making sure you provide enough torque to lift the tank, AND absorb the weight of the tank being pushed down. Generally the less distance the roadwheels travel, the better your performance is. To make the Torsion Bar Suspension stronger you need to lengthen, and thicken the Torsion Bars.
Finally found a way to make the suspension work better! Go to tracks, road wheels, height. Messing with that helps some and I even was able to use the HVSS suspension.
I think I'll wait until you can design something with curved armor. Otherwise everything tends to look like a Tiger, Panther, KV or SU derivative. But it still looks like fun.
I've found that having the suspension tall by default makes things work better in general and that if you need to make something heavy, you kinda just have to use interlocking road wheels.
This is exactly what I've been looking for, I have 2 notebooks which are full of tank designs that I've been drawing Ever since 8th grade And now there is finally a game I can actually build these Tanks in So I can give them a physical mark up of what they would actually look like in real life.
I heard of the game at it's release in the Naval art server (ship making game. Like battleship/warship/naval craft) took me less than 20 mins to yield and get it. Worth it!
It has to do with the barrel lengt not being long enough to use the full power of the longer shells. If the barrel was the full 8 meters then you would see the penetration drop when dropping Shell length
I've been hyped about this game. Played it for a bit today, still in early access, suspension and transmission need some work, but so far liking it a lot
This game in pvp would be awsome, it would be hard to balance and pull off, but the reward could be astounding in terms of how cool the game would become.
after watching your stream yesterday i bought it and have made a tank with multiple different marks ive been enjoying it so much and figured out suspension
This is pretty great. I immediately started in making a better Pz IV, basically a deep modernisation with a new turret and torsion bar suspension. So far I have gotten close. Another day I will look up the exact hull dimensions to fine tune the design, but it is already looking great with a smallturm style turret and six non over leaving road wheels with torsion bars. I also fairly quickly figured out what the problem is with suspension bottoming out. Basically the suspension by default is too stiff and that causes the issue. I solved it by lowering damping to around 1000 and then increasing the thickness of the torsion bars. Like this, it is quite stable and good off road. At least for my design. I do however notice that this game is in early state. Because when it comes to parts, you are quite restricted. You have stuff like the Panther its mantled or engine fan design, but you also miss a lot of options. And it is like that with all nations. Road wheels seem to be mostly Soviet, in terms of cupola you either have the late Pz IV one or late M4 Sherman, exhausts seem to be only German designs etc. That will probably take some time. But the massive potential is there.
This would be tons of fun for me! Now all I need is a powerful PC, a better-than-current WiFi, a membership to Steam and other DL resources, and the multitude of other factors beyond my understanding. Man, I'm old...
Huge potential, but idk since I've seen these types of games slowly stopping development to a halt. I will buy it tho, but I really wish the developer will continue making this game. Possibly adding multiplayer support would also be a good idea down the road.
I just hope it WILL be supported and doesn't become another "woopsie, I got some money and recognition from it so I was hired to/started another project on my own and will now drop this game as it is".
This looks a bit reminiscent to a similar idea, Automation. In Automation, you make your own cars and car companies and such, designing your car from selecting a body, the materials it's made out of, the engine specs, all the tuning and features, and the looks of the car itself. However, Sprocket has its own built-in driving feature, where you can drive your tank within the same game. Automation doesn't have this feature, the closest being importing your cars into Beam.ng Drive, so I'd give it points for that. I hope this game does well.
Minor glitch worth noting is the slider you are trying to change autosliding to its max value, dunno why it happens, not really a complaint despite it making editing tank a pain in butt, so fucking looking forward to this games future tho
For the suspension i lower the rest angle all the way down which gives the suspension a lot more clearance… With the steering issue i haven’t been able to find any way around it other than sheer torque.
