    This reminds me of parties I went to in high school. Lots of fun, lots of good people, but plenty of people doing stupid things and almost killing themselves and others.

    This year was the first time since the covid 🐂💩 I've been here. I was there for the mud fest....
    This year was the first year without my beloved airport dog, Ladybird. She passed this spring, and had as much fun as anyone here.
    Thanks to Marcia and Dave and everyone who participated to make this a really fun fly in.

    Some absolutely gorgeous aircraft assembled there, and lovingly restored pieces of history. That heli running into the trees could have turned real bad real quickly..and as bad as it was, a blessing it didn't go worse. Must admit, that 1st day I don't think I would have landed on that runway..and I had some bad field experience in the military..although that feels like a 100 yrs. ago now! But a great flyin, and appreciate you taking us along.

    Helicopter take off. Look forward, then left, the right, then up, then do it all again. Keep looking. Watch for overhangs. A whole runway and he flew up into the trees. The blades will need replacing and anything that turns will need a sudden stoppage inspection and necessary repairs. Transmission, tail rotor gear box, tail rotor drive shaft. Not cheap. So glad he didn't come down on top of the people near the trees. Hopefully a lesson well learned. Rich people and helicopters don't mix well.

    The Robinson R44's and R22's are trailered all the time in south Texas. They use them to herd cows, hunt hogs (son-in-law does that), and "manage" deer on high fence ranches.

    Most of the locals that I know around here call it, "Reklaw, you know, Walker spelled backwards!"
    There is also a nearby township called Sacul, which is Lucas spelled backwards. I don't know if it's true or not, but supposedly the founder of the two towns had two sons named Walker and Lucas, and the two towns are named for them.

    Hey Bobby, hi from Ireland. I travel to Oshkosh every year to camp at, and watch the EAA Airventure. Absolutely massive week-long airshow with 1000’s of aircraft flying in and participating. Highly recommend that you visit. Leave the Doodles at home though as Oshkosh has lots of military jets and is far to noisy for our canine friends. Loving the new channel, some very interesting videos. Thx, Marc

    These small town fly-inns are always a hoot. No matter where they are held, and, they happen all over this continent. Go to enough of these smaller, semi-organised fly-inns and you see a few things that make you cringe. Like all those people tearing up the runway, and risking tearing up their airplanes in that "soup" they call a runway? There's always a few guys hot-dogging at the ragged edge of their skill-level, and sometimes it ends badly. The patterns get congested, and many guys never fly in this kind of congestion, so they have no clue how it should work... pilots start jumping the line and cutting people off, not because they are jerks, but, because they don't really know any better. It is chaotic at times. But it is so FUN ! Find out where your local small-town fly-inns are and GO to them. Fly-inn, or drive inn... just GO.

    Bobby one of the best video's of Reklaw I've seen. As mentioned before I didn't attend this fly in due to the conditions on the ground as I didn't want to damage my Piper Comanche. I noticed a good friend who is a Southwest Airlines capt. flying his RV-8...(Steve) in the Green and White with Stars paint job at the 13:28 mark of your video. That is one fine flying machine with a Glass panel. So many good time there and as a subscriber of both your channels wish I had the opportunity to meet you and Laura. Once again a great video. This is something we don't see here in Belgium, the fact that as a regular visitor you can walk between the airplanes and talk with the owners about their airplane and other stuff. Its damn amazing. Here there is always a big and large fence inbetween. I have to admit, I'm not a great fan of the U.S, but in terms of aviation, its the best place to be and live! Greetings from Belgium!

    Terrific episode
    really appreciate you sharing this with us because here is a fly-in most people would never know about
    glad that Robinson R-44 situation didn't end up causing a massive tragedy
    disorganized events when it comes to those particular issues are frightening
    just being on the "honor system" no matter what temporary air-traffic control was set up, puts folks at risk that some of what we love about general aviation, but that helicopter incident could have made world news had it and it differently... . Had it been Robinson R-22 . There probably would not have been enough power for those blades to cut that tree limb and we all know what would have happened next... Happy that gentleman was more injured when things fell on him
    Appreciate this video more than you know. I'm glad that it was a wonderful time. Wish I had been there to experience a person
    maybe one day
    Can't wait for your next installment
    the best to you
    how nice that your dad was there as well, and I wonder what his comments would be about what he saw spending all those years of commercial aviation

    • @gungadinn
      @gungadinn 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Friends don't let friends fly Robinson's.
      That tail rotor gear box is close to $20k, tail rotor blades @ $3.5K each, main rotor blades another $15-20k each, and the tear down of the main box for another $35K. Mighty expensive oops!
      What I'm surprised at is how far he traveled after the tree strike before putting down on Terra firma.

    • @Gregs_World
      @Gregs_World 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gungadinn I cannot believe that cost structure. Unbelievable! I appreciate that information and I agree with you about the amount of distance covered after that near tragedy before setting down

    • @gungadinn
      @gungadinn 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Gregs_World +
      Nothing in aviation is inexpensive. Helicopters cost more than fixed wing aircraft as there are many items that are time limited, and the manufacturer is the only source of parts.
      That pilot was extremely lucky that the tail rotor stayed intact and that he didn't lose control. I was surprised that he didn't land directly after the tail strike.
      Base price on a new Robinson R44 is a bit over $470k. Drop another $20k for air conditioning, $35k for avionics, and you've got the least expensive 4 place helicopter in the US market. Robinson makes their money on replacement parts.
      Check out the Robinson website to get an idea on what you get and how deep your wallet needs to be.
      In my other life, I held an A&P license and replaced many tail rotor gear boxes on both the R22 (two place) and R44 (four place helicopters).

    Nice video. I loved the dogs, and especially seeing how loved they are. Your girlfriend is beautiful. I would have liked to hear from your Dad.
