Emma takes everything way too easy. she needs more grit and determination. shes only 19 and has retired 4 times this year and 10 times in her career. she needs to imrpove fitness, mentality and consistency if she wants to be more than a one slam wonder. look at fernandez, at the french open, she was playing with a broken foot and didnt even retire and they are the same age. if emma plays next week then it just comes to show that she cant handle little hurdles well and lacks lots of determination. at least emma should try to finish the match. even if she gets bagelled, or makes her injury, at least give it a go, she has nothing to lose, as even if she makes her injury worst, at least she has time to regroup and find her form again. overall, emma is not mentally strong and just retires when things dont go her way. why didnt she retire at the USO when she got wounded? i wonder why. what makes it the worst is when i stood up for emma when she got laughed at, now, how do i support a clown that just retires everytime things dont go her way/recieves a small hurdle?
She has retired 4 times this year 6 TIMES in a year and two months and ten times in her career. And she is nearly 20. But then she plays the following week after every retirement. Something is up. Osaka has the same problems lately though a far better record in general, but lately always injured.
Sounding a bit of a clown here looking for the worst in her. Not every injury is the same. She’s had matches against Kovinic, Kalinina and Freidsam where she had injuries in the match and made it close and finished the match.
Ostapenko was too good for Raducanu after winning the second set, the winning shots were brilliant 💥💥👌. But, retiring is not a good sign of sportsmanship. Excellent tennis Ostapenko 👌👌👌
@@spurs7151 routine win lol. Raducanu hasn't beaten anyone inside the Top 20 since the US Open 2021 and only EVER there at that one tournament (and famously holds the record to be Top--10 ranked once but never having beaten a player in the Top 10 when they played) . a win here against a Top 20 player (just inside at WTA 19) would have been a massive exception and was definitely not looking assured/routine. This is the 10th retirement of Raducanu's career already - but no surprise that she does it yet again when she was already beaten. If anything looked "routine" here it must be the retirement given the amount of times already.
Osta didn't start winning till EMMA'S glute caused her an injury, at the time EMMA was a set and a break up. You have injuries when you are pushing your body too much, eg.: you have not enough skills, you are too weak, you have not enough stamina or you are not able to fully recover beforehand , or simply your opponent is too strong and you are playing above your level…
Your body gets stronger then from recovery, that’s how that works. She says she’s been doing more training and this is a result of that it seems in her last 2 tournaments but can pay off her in her long run. She hasn’t been getting long term injuries which is good.
i dont get it, this injury has been along time and she retires games a bit too much, however if she has injuries, why i dont see news about her getting treated in the hospital or clinics?
At least she gained 105 points out this tourney and now inching closer to being in the top 50. Might be hard in her next tournament in Ostrava as the best players in the world are playing here in this WTA 500 events. She would be lucky if she goes past the 2nd round in Ostrava. Good to see Emma have a nice run here. Surely, the main priority now is a 6 to 8 week solid uninterrupted pre season training block to build in robustness and reduce the number of physical issues she's been suffering. I think she touched on this a little in a recent press briefing. Trying to do bits and pieces between tournaments is clearly not ideal.
OMG as former player I can't feel her pain to know if she was really injured but the timing seemed a little suspicious to me. I was always coached not to retire due to injury unless something was torn, broken or dislocated, especially when we're talking 3 set matches. With 5 setters you can add heat stroke to that list
Would she have had an injury if the score was 3-0 raducanu in the third set, very convenient. I thought she was improving but nothing surprised me about this match.
Folks, please answer my two questions. #1 - Would you still make travel plan and pay ticket prices to watch Raducanu and be prepared to watch a partial match and to clap politely as she leaves the court? #2 - Do you agree that lately there have been frequent "walkovers"? Walkovers seem to be happening even more than retirements. What's up with that?
Emma was on top for most of it until her injury. Emma I think with better fitness, gradually keep improving her tennis level can go up the rankings pretty soon, a good off season will be good for her. Ostapenko is having her best period since 2017 as well.
I'm very pleased to read a line from you ...sent a comment here because I see you always liking my post and comment... thanks 😍 for your continuous love and support. How long since you have being my fan🥰
When Emma broke to go 2-1 up she was doing a bunch of stretches around her injured area. So some people’s notion that she’s flopping matches when she’s losing is rubbish.
Watching highlights of matches with Ostapenko, I don't understand why her opponents don't make her run side to side, and up and down. Instead, they set her up to hammer the ball from the middle, like a baseball batter would. With her state of conditioning at the moment, they could wear her down with drop shots, and shots to the sidelines.
That’s what I thought too. She is so heavy. That’s how Serena got beaten when she gained weight. I guess the players and their coaches are more dumber than we give them credit for.
Because she hits everything hard and this sometimes means you don't get a good hit on it when she's sending you left and right. Eventually, one of those shots result in a weaker shot which she wants so she can hit a winner.
1st Semi Final for Emma since US OPEN 21. 1st set Very interesting for Emma, shame for the physical issue. Generally KOREA OPEN is a success, experience in the bank for the next. Of course a Ostapenko in the rhythm just unstoppable
She just won the first set you moron and would have won the match had it not been for the injury. You don't know exactly what injury she was carrying before the match except for her coach and her team, you don't reveal it to the public or your opponents before the match and handing them the advantage, do you? But I was a bit surprised and concerned yesterday that Emma was not her usual smiley self after such a commanding victory, looking very subdued yesterday at the end of the match, not smiling at all and looking rather drained despite the one sided easy straight sets win against Linette and reaching her first WTA SF since 2021,perhaps deep down she realized that whatever injury she was having has flared up again at some point during the match but not bad enough to affect her play or to retire but knew that today's match against the top seed Ostapenko might be just a step too far if you're not fully fit. Yet again it looks like an old injury has flared up again and derailed her chances since she was clutching at the same spot! I just hope she's fit enough for her next tournament in Ostrava in the Czech Republic next month. Emma should really consider hiring a full time fitness coach as well.
Raducanu fans are some of the most deluded people on the planet. Yesterday someone said this year's final was weak, that Iga and Ons where playing like they were ranked 100 vs 200 and that Emma and Fernandez played at a greater level. I just can't
Feisty Penko demonstrated the mental toughness, and Radu wilted like the delicate flower she is. If she can't endure 3-set grinders at this young age against established opponents then I don't think she'll ever be built for it (physically and/or mentally)
She was on top for most of the match and felt something was up physically when she broke to go 2-1 up. She says she’s been training more lately and that caused her leg injury last week, they haven’t been long term, looks like a fitness thing.
I hope she doesn't start playing less while appearing on the cover of more magazines. The retirements show a lack of tenacity to play through the pain and she can't seem to overcome real adversity. She won the US without dropping a set and her run here came without dropping a set until now. It could just be bad luck, maybe these injuries would have made Rafa Nadal quit or at least lose, I'm not sure.
She’s had at least 3 matches his year where she’s played with physical issues and made it close against Kovinic, Kalanini and Friedsam. So she’s not quitting every time she has an injury. Also in her first 2 matches here she had to hold off some pressure in the 2nd sets so it hasn’t been a cakewalk for her, she showed some adversity in those matches.
Emma might as well quit the WTA. More injuries than her wins. She's not even in the pro circuit that long and having more injuries than most pros in their lifetime.
No but honestly a lot of players are in pain on the court and they power thru not just to me or the fans but as respect to the other player working hard for moments like that just to quit at the business end of third set sorry if my post was upsetting.
MBE for the stlye in which EMMA won one tournament (so far), beating all comers without dropping a set in only her 2nd ever tournament, it's recognition for achieving something all the others can only dream about !!

I've got a sneaky suspicion player rankings don't drop if they retire from a match with an injury. If Emma had continued and lost, as it seemed most likely, she might've dropped several places in the rankings. One can easily suspect she clearly knew she was going to lose, so played the injured card to avoid the drop. I might be wrong. Other players losing a match or who have lost their nerve and courage to continue playing, play the tactic of feigning injury to save face and to avoid the drop in rankings.
this is not how ranking points work at all. Had she retired before the match even started she would have maintained / received the same ranking points. It’s based on the round you reach.
You say you’ve got a “sneaky suspicion“ when really you want to say you’re too lazy to look up how ranking points work, so you can say something misleading and basically stupid in the TH-cam comment section.
This is the first tournament for her where she won more than 2 matches. Surprise Surprise ... Leaves when the going gets tough. It is very tough to support her, since she is going to let down anyway. Hope she improves atleast for her supporters though.
She was on top most of the match so I guess you didn’t watch. She broke to go 2-1 up and didn’t look right physically when sitting down so this didn’t just pop up when she was losing.
Four retirements in one year isn't great, is it? (Even Paula Badosa hasn't retired that much in 2022!) I don't think she's made a final since last year's US Open win. Maybe she'll come good, maybe she won't. Time will tell.
@@philipcross8121 If I remember correctly, Badosa has retired 3 times this year. But hey, there are 3 more months in 2022. We'll see who will win this game!

So wonderful you're "saying it again." Does that make you feel clever? Because the fact that you don't seem to realize her age works against any false impression of tennis comprehension.
I'm a big fan of Emma but these retirements are becoming oh so predictable. She is going to have to learn to grit her teeth and play through the injury niggles.
No way, all that would do is make any injury even worse and take longer to recover. Don't you seek medical attention when you're ill or do you just carry on as normal hoping the problem will just 'go away' all by itself ??
Actually she does do that. She’s had many more injury niggles than retirements this year, and she’s in a better position *every time* to assess the pros and cons of toughing it out vs long term risk than *any* commenter on this video.
😢Emma’s game totally lacks variety, she needs to be a lot more canny with her game, lobs, drop shots, use of heavy slice, at the moment she’s way too predictable
I'm not sure whether emma and her coaching team noticed that her shots were shalow and no depth, most of time place the ball in her opponent's sweet spots. Why? not enough power, or low tense string raquet, or just playing save... any idea? besides, her forehand shots only has a little bit of top spin.
Radu-Cannot lol . Hail the queen of MTOs, the queen of retirements. At least with the year over she can't cry about being inexperienced or having pressure. PenkoGoat
Even without being Raducanu fan, i am feeling bit sad for her. From dominating the match to MTO and retiring exactly when she found the rhythm is painful... Get well soon, Emma!
She was dominating no match. She barely won the first set because ostapenko df on break point. After that ostapenko found her rythm and hit 19 winners to only 7 unforced in the second set. While in the first she hit 14 winners to 22 unforced. Raducanu simply retired when she knew ostapenko wasnt missing anymore, thats what she normally does when she is getting outplayed

The time-out was in 2nd set when Ostapenko had just broken her and was on a roll !!! .. And if she was so so injured that she couldn't continue/didn't want to aggravate why not just retire after losing 2nd set ... it just takes away shine from the opponents win!!
Emma showed she had an injury when she broke to go 2-1 up actually. You don’t know the extent of it usually and you see if you can compete. Obviously she couldn’t.
Raducanu can't keep up with Osty's fire power. Part of the reason she was injured was because she was struggling to keep up with Ostapenko's pace. Sorry, can't do it.
This was the best week of tennis Emma has had in a while, but there are more haters than I've ever seen in the comments... when she won against Linette yesterday, people were saying "she only won because Linette was injured", but when Emma got injured herself today, everybody's on her ass like she committed a felony. By watching only the highlights you might be inclined to believe she was faking it, but her motion, especially on her serve, actually started to be hampered when leading 2-1 in the second set. Why would she fake an injury when she's a set and a break up? Maybe I'm wrong, but it doesn't make sense to me. Her getting injured so often is definitely a clear issue she needs to work on. We'll see if she plays next week. Credit to Ostapenko for playing unfazed and being even more aggressive
A lot of players tough it up. Serena kept playing with a not so good knee, Rafa kept playing with injury, Roger finished his match at Wimbledon despite his knee failing him even though he got bagel led etc Emma needs to learn from all these examples and understand that she can't keep withdrawing from every match except it's really serious. If she keeps withdrawing from a match she's losing only to play the next tournament, no one would believe her
@@vhykthoro2508 It’s only because the amount of hype, attention, money and status she has earned on the strength of one good run in one tournament. @@vhykthoro2508 I see your point, but at the same time you don't want to risk making an injury worse. You brought up Nadal at Wimbledon, and while it was undoubtedly a heroic effort to finish the match and win it, he was then unable to play the semifinal and many following tournaments, which led to him not being in the best shape for Us open and being defeated early. At that point Emma was going to lose the match anyway, so it probably wasn't worth it to further jeopardize her already delicate physical form. @@notis6107 WTF are you saying ?? If you saw the match you would have noticed straight after EMMA broke for a 2-1 lead in the 2nd set, she sat down at change of end and was already stretching her left glute before calling the WTA Medic who suggested the MTO !!

Raducanu hasn't beaten anyone inside the Top 20 since the US Open 2021 and only EVER there at that one tournament (and famously holds the record to be Top--10 ranked once but never having beaten a player in the Top 10 when they played) . a win here against a Top 20 player (just inside at WTA 19) would have been a massive exception and was definitely not looking assured/routine. This is the 10th retirement of Raducanu's career already - but no surprise that she does it yet again when she was already beaten. Your body gets stronger then from recovery, that’s how that works. She says she’s been doing more training and this is a result of that it seems in her last 2 tournaments but can pay off her in her long run. She hasn’t been getting long term injuries which is good.

When she was sitting down after having just broke to go 2-1 in front she showed something was up with her. So that gets rid of that suspicion I think.

Serena kept playing with a not so good knee, Rafa kept playing with injury, Roger finished his match at Wimbledon despite his knee failing him even though he got bagel led etc

But yeah, Emma tends to lack toughness in difficult moments with the back against the wall, and I'm not sure whether that's something she can change in the future
She is never injured when she won. Always when she is losing... interesting
Don't get rattled by all the idiotic comments. TH-cam comment sections aren't exactly the favoured hangout for mankind's finest minds.
(Which explains why I'm here, I know.)
I told you - as soon as she faced someone decent she'd lose. "But she retired" Emma has proven to be a quitter. When the going gets tough she quits. FRAUD-U-CANU!!!
Oh for goodness skae, EMMA was leading at the time by a set and a break. Do you really think she wanted an injury ??
So when the going gets tough, Emma just gives up?
She was afraid of the 0-6
How many retirements already in this year????? if she keeps getting injured (as she claimed) every time she plays, maybe she should just retire if she can't go through it. I want to root for her, but it's so annoying when she does this all the time.
It’s only her 4th time and they haven’t been long term. Looks like a fitness thing.
Back to fashion modeling indorsement!!!
Looll is this girl an athlete. Always injured at such a young age. Thats when you should be fit. The girl can play but it seems she is a bjt weak.
Adversity Retired Queen
It seems that when Emma is on the losing end, she gives up easily complaining of injury. She has been doing this for 4x now this year and it is not helping her career. Could she be just malingering to avoid a humiliating loss?
Not exactly. Emma took MTO when she leaded with 2-1 in the second set. After that she lost the rhythm and Ostapenko took advantage from that.
@@xxxxxxxx8634 wtf are u saying. She took mto when she was losing 3-2. When ostapenko won 2 games in a row, just hitting winners
Exactly you are quite right it's shameful and embarrassing
@@notis6107 WTF are you saying ?? If you saw the match you would have noticed straight after EMMA broke for a 2-1 lead in the 2nd set, she sat down at change of end and was already stretching her left glute before calling the WTA Medic who suggested the MTO !!
She can’t handle the heat! This proves, the USA open was fixed!
Injury came in conveniently as Emma got broken twice. Yes I just don't buy it!
Did you see the match ?? EMMA was the one who broke Osta in the 2nd set !!
Another foolish comment, the injury happened when Raducanu was a set and a break ahead. What you didn’t buy was your poor education.
Im so bored of Raducanu. Any player willing to retire in a semi for something so small is no player ill be rooting for.
Ostapenko es simpatica
No sportsmanship for Raducanu
Emma was REALLY lucky to win the Open as was Fernandez to get to the final with her. She is just an average tennis player. Many get on a streak and win Championships then never win another. She doesn't impress me. Iga is impressive.
Iga is impressive because she is World No. 1. Emma is not even top 50 now. We are just expecting so much from Emma.
And you’ll always be a nobody. Carry on
Forget about the lottery jackpot.
IGA has a far more superior game than Emma.Emma doesn't have a weapon.she relies on grinding out opponents.
@@derekd7756 And you replied to a nobody, Pathetic!
She said dropping in rank was a good thing it took pressure off of her, a fresh new start! You NEVER hear Champions talk like that ( thankfully) She has talent but does she have fortitude?! Only time will tell if she will be a One Hit Wonder!
She needs more variety in her game.
Big shots are great if they are winning but trading with another big hitter is risky.
I would have liked to see her play some drop shots or even just slice a few back to change the feel of the shot to the opponent so they aren't able to sat in the groove.
It looks easy from my armchair here...
Yeh that’s why Alice won due to variety of dropshot
I haven’t seen Ostapenko play in a while. Looks like she gained a lot of weight! Is she fit?
If emma doesn't bulk up gain that muscle mass . Her shots will always remain weak . The game is physical now and to beat your opponent u must be powerful . Jelena ostapenko looks chubby but shes powerful maybe less agile on the move but she hits the ball with her body . Tennis is not just hitting the ball but also rotate that torso that pelvis to get maximum power on the ball . Emma is way too skinny to play against girls like ozaka , iga , rybalenka etc
Świątek and Rybakina aren't exactly massive. Stop comparing these players and Raducanu to the Osaka and Ostapenko.
She's afraid to bulk up because Tiffany&Co ambassadors need to be thin and fragile. She should drop tennis.
@@Jojo_Alsinashe and she still got that big bag 💸, earning from a single sponsorship the money that you probably won’t be able to win in your whole life 😢.
@@pbworld7858 Swiatek definitely gained some muscle mass if you compare her body from 2-3 years ago. Radwanska used to be physically weak and skinny but she played tricky tennis and managed to stay very high in the ranks for a long time. But I don’t see Emma doing it.
@@magdalenaborek8350 yeah... Radwanska didn't play power tennis. She was crafty and it helped her
Penko got the guts. Emma needs to be more fierce.
Congrats to Ostapenko! Raducanu follows Yastremska’s suit retiring when close to losing, bad sportsmanship. I bet next week we’ll see her at another tournament despite her “injury”
She had a physical issue early in the second set so it didn’t just come out of nowhere.
@@jgunner94 I wish her a speedy recovery if this is the case
@@yuliyaivanova1218 Come on you should know better if you didn’t see the full match.
@@jgunner94 Don't lecture me. I judge by the highlights and Emma's behaviour so far, she's done that a couple of times same as Diana, so I've drawn a fair parallel between them. Some tennis players always seem to have a 'physical issue' when they lose track of the game and prefer to pull out
A lot ofpeople hope they do see EMMA at another tournament a.s.a.p., and EMMA would like to oblige. Hence why she conceded hoping any niggling injury will heal in time for her next appearance !!
No trainer? What was the problem? You can't just quit in the 3rd set because you're losing.
Think she better go to WTA125 to test her fitness...slowly work from there...
Is there any WTA62.5?
She should play the challengers 😂😂
oh so *NOW* y’all start uploading walkover matches. it’s about time 😒
This girl always want to retire when she's losing. SHAMELESS
19yo and she seems to suffer more injuries than 40 year olds
LOL...that right
I dont' know about that.. more like 60 year olds.
