This was "Halloween" before John Carpenter's Halloween existed, a pre-slasher movie with elegant horror, funny moments and a final girl that made her own choices about her life and body in the 70s 👏

I honestly hate the final girl, I won't lie, like, I love that she made her own choice about her pregnancy, don't get me wrong, she gets to choose, her body, her choice, I just...don't like the way she went about it really, if that makes since, but that's just my general opinion

Not only one of the best Slasher movies of all time, but also the movie is an intended metaphor for pregnant people's rights of pro choice. There was a big Anti Abortion movement in Canada at the time, so the director purposefully added the pregnancy/abortion storyline in support of pro choice.

Jess and Sally (from "Texas Chainsaw Massacre," which came out the same year) are the original final girls and helped lay the foundation for all the other ones since. And Chris is the boyfriend every girl should have.

Some obvious choices aside, this is the creme de la creme of 70s slashers. A near fifty year old movie that can just give you chills. Also, you don't really get to know anything about the killer, and the ending doesn't resolve anything. It's so dark. I love it.
Edit: For a Billy backstory, there is "Black Christmas" 2006. Beware of some VERY icky plotpoints and lotsa gore.
Also, Kris was played by an actor named Art Hindle. For more horror with that fine man, he did make a movie with David Cronenberg called "The Brood" from 1979, which I strongly recommend.

Black Christmas was one of the original slasher flicks. Peter was a great red herring, along with Chris (Art Hindle). It never states definitively who Billy is, but presumably he was an escaped mental patient who used to live with his family in the sorority house before it was converted into a dormitory. The director toyed with the idea of making one of the boyfriends the psychopathic killer, but in the end, he felt it was more thrilling to leave the ending ambiguous. The thought that your home could be invaded by a psychotic stranger who hides out in the attic and makes obscene phone calls using your phone line and creeps down to kill is freaky. It’s scarier yet more believable than having a lover turn out to be a psycho.

Fun fact, first film to use the "caller is inside the house" trope was a short film from 1971 called Foster's Release. This movie used it, as noted, in 1974, while When A Stranger Calls was 1979.

It doesn't matter who the killer is in the movie. The whole point is that it can be literally anybody which is a very real perspective to women who don't have the privilege to know which man is gonna be violent against them and which man wouldn't. The killer is not a person, but more of a symbol of all the depravity and violence women have to suffer from certain men sometimes on a regular basis (not murder though, but like vile comments, stalking, harassment, threats etc. like when he was calling them).

  • @Daavhimself

This movie was wayyy ahead of it's time and succeeded with clever cinematography and story over gore and shock. I love it and watch it every Christmas. Hard to believe the same guy who directed this also directed A Christmas Story. Talk about versatility.
Fun Fact: Margot Kidder who played Barb was "method acting" and was legit tipsy/drunk during all of her scenes.

  • @NotoriousPumpa
    @NotoriousPumpa ปีที่แล้ว +11

Glad you liked it! If you pause at the right moment you can see the killer's black sweater... Not green. Also, his eyes doesn't match Peter's, he has like a strange reddish brown tint to it when you see him behind the door. It's a coincidence that "Billy" has some trauma about a baby ;)

  • @Kiddo_williams

Such a classic Christmas horror slasher. A shocking and scary ending. Probably one of the scariest horror villains since we never ever see him. The kills are well paced and effective.
Great characters too that have plenty of development for them.
As for who billy is, I believe the sorority house was his own home and his split personalities started to manifest the more he stayed in his home. The first clue it’s his house is that there are toys or kids toys in the attic.
I think Billy was abused as a child and he sexually assaulted Agnes which is why he says “don’t you tell what we did Agnes”, I also believe that Billy killed his parents at some point and then later killed Agnes as a child. As for this line “where did you put Agnes”, I believe that Billy kept Agnes hostage in the basement of the house at some point and I also think he escaped from a mental hospital and decided to go back home on Christmas.
This is my theory on Billy and should answer the questions you have.
As for the ending and Jess fate, I believe she will die because Billy was climbing down the attic ladder at the end you can see his shadow plus he always makes a phone call at the end of every kill.

Black Christmas (1974) is one of the most greatest and scariest horror movies of all time. The story, performance's, music, images, astomphere, tension, and cinematography was so suspenseful, frightening, haunting, mysterious, thrilling, intense, eerie, creepy, and spooky 😰😱 which works perfectly for the movie. It was such a nail-biting and intense thrill ride as it kept me on the edge of my seat. 😰😱 To this day the ending still gives me chills and goosebumps 😱😰 as it gives a insightful and articulate representation of how true evil wins. It was decent. To this day I still watch it and I consider it a classic. It never gets old. 😍😎💯👍

This is such a Classic Movie. I watch it every Halloween and on Christmas. So Billy is a fictional character from the Black Christmas film series. He first appeared in Black Christmas (1974), as a deranged murderer who taunts and kills a group of college students during the Christmas season. Created by Bob Clark and A. Roy Moore, the character was partly inspired by the urban legend "The Babysitter and the Man Upstairs", as well as a series of real murders in Montreal during the 1943 holiday season. I sure hope that helps you guys. As always my Favorite Queens…

A true classic in the slasher genre and such a underrated film and one of my favorite slashers of all time and i watch it every Christmas eve.
It is absolutely brilliant from start to finish and the cinematography just stunning.
Even though i have seen this countless times it still creeps me out and makes me feel uneasy.
The way they keep " Billy " in shadows and only show his hands or eye and not knowing who he is makes him even more terrifying.
You need to watch the fan film IT'S ME BILLY. It's set 50 years after the 1974 film and involves Jess Bradford's granddaughter Sam.

Warner Bros wanted Bob Clark to change the ending of this movie before they released it here in the US. They wanted Chris, the boyfriend of the first victim Clare, to be revealed as the killer. He was supposed to say something like "Agnes, don't tell them what we did" before killing Jess. Bob Clark had to fight to keep the killer ambiguous.

I'm glad you both loved this movie. It's one of my personal favorites, the ending is just chilling af. As for the identity of Billy and his whole deal, you would have to harken back to his obscene phone calls. Because when you listen to them closely enough it paints a whole different picture to a certain extent, showing he might not be spewing some insane bullshit over the phone, despite how batshit it actually sounds.

For me it was the phone calls that were frightening- When you think of a menace over the phone its usually someone charismatic and threatening IE Ghostface- This guy BILLY was unhinged and was telling a disturbing story through those various voices- just so unsettling!!

The original slasher film, a Canadian slasher film, directed by the same guy behind A Christmas Story, Bob Clark, filmed in Toronto and co-starring some of the SCTV (Canadian Saturday Night Live) gang and headlined by Juliet from the 1968 Romeo and Juliet and Dave from 2001: A Space Odyssey. I don't know how you can do better than that for casting in 1974. It's pretty slow and suspenseful compared to modern movies, but I love it for that. It's paced well, doesn't show a ton of gore compared to modern horror. When I saw the hilariously raunchy opening, I realized we were in good hands. Subbed.

The editing, the transitions, the camerawork, lighting, and sound design are masterful and somewhat difficult to appreciate without several viewings because the nastiness of this plot is so gripping and at times hard to take in. The killing of Barb is set up in the style of The Godfather scene of Michael’s son’s baptism juxtaposed with varies mob hits. Thanks for making videos eh.

The director of the movie said Jess did not die. They were supposed to make a sequel in the 2010s I believe that picks up from here but unfortunately, he and his son were killed by a drunk driver.

*It would be great if you react to the 2006 remake of Black Christmas, if you haven't yet!*

How could you two have thought it was Peter?
It was obvious the killer was both A: still in the house, since he entered. & B: is this "Billy"

Been lookin a long time for a channel with 2... gentlemen like yourselves. Glorious! Y'all pumpkins are _charming_ as f! Fantastic reaction to this masterpiece of macabre!
I'm gonna suggest a movie, like all random, commenting d-bags do for y'all to skim my comment and then ignore: Deathtrap ('82). Michael Caine and Superman in a whodunit (yeah, it's not a horror, quite. But it's up y'all's alley).
It's 🔥, and I suggest it for a particular reason - but it'd *spoil* the twist(s) to say, so...
    Superman's upsettingly hot in it...kinda?

🖤🎄You need to love this movie more than Halloween! It's the original that inspired halloween. It's my favorite movie of all time. In that genre. Of course. But I just love your guys's critiques. You make me smile and laugh so much. The thing with the phones that you never experienced.. is that when you hit a bad connection the people on the other line were screaming at you too. It was just a bad connection. By the way.. the upper tank of the toilet has 100% clean water. That is always being emptied into the s******.. you need to watch Porky's. Detective Nash and fur coat are in Porky's. It was also directed by Bob Clark who directed by Christmas and a Christmas story.
