  • Join Jason, @Danhurd and @mineoperator as they venture into the deserts of Southern California on a quest for elusive gold! In this exciting episode, the team takes on a new challenge-dry washing! Will the dry desert environment reveal a bounty of gold, or will it remain a well-guarded secret?
Drywashing, a technique akin to the wetter alternative of sluicing in northern regions, is put to the test by Jason and Dan for the first time. The adventure unfolds as they navigate the unique challenges posed by drywashing. As if the drywashing adventure isn't thrilling enough, Jason and Dan engage in a "gold off" competition! It's a battle royale between the USA and Canada-two seasoned gold TH-camrs vying to outdo each other in the quest for the precious yellow metal.
But here's the twist: to determine the ultimate winner, you, the viewer, must watch both videos and cast your vote! Leave a comment sharing your choice for the gold recovery champion-will it be Jason or Dan? The fate of the "gold off" hangs in the balance, and your vote decides the victor!
Don't miss out on the drywashing excitement and the showdown for gold supremacy! Subscribe, like, and hit the notification bell to catch every moment of this epic desert gold hunting adventure.

Reminded me of an invention I made on a job many years ago that would probably work well for Dry washing fine materials and sand. It consisted of a 10hp insulation vacuum used for sucking out "blown in" insulation from attics. We ran out of the special bags it used one day so I hooked a 100' length of an inflatable tubing called "lay flat" to the output, which is a clear thin plastic tubing that comes on a roll. I used an automotive air filter taped at the end of the 100' run of tubing to create backpressure which inflated the lay flat into a fairly solid tube. The thing I noticed is it classified materials based on density all along its length over time. It would be amazing to bring it to the desert to classify and concentrate materials with the added benefit of being able to vacuum them up at a high rate.

Awesome, another technique I'd love to try one day!
Hearing you mention the scheelite - does that mean the gold will also have some tungsten content? That might be a pain to get out of by cupelling - I think that's the problem I ran into cupelling mine: The bead formed a crust of solid black stuff.
After some remembering that the gold mines upstream on the river, where our gold comes from, also produced tungsten and research into it, a tungsten oxide melts at around 2000°C - not something my mini kiln can produce. 😞

Dan is without a doubt the best gold panning person I have ever seen. The idea of that first machine is really pretty good. I'm taking Dan in a nose to the finish line winner. But I like Jason and Dan the same so all I will say is that your are both of you a gentleman and a scholar. Good day kind sirs and the other people who supplied the machines. Keep making videos together and Jason get back n the hard rock mine in the spring as soon as possible. And Jason could you make a video where you compare the pay streak payout over the entire vein se we can know which area is the highest payout area per ton.

If you eat grain products , you do so because combines utilize the same concept to harvest and separate grain from the dust and chaff .
Density and inertial differences , vibration , along with air flow , same concept as is used here to recover heavy minerals , like gold .
Dry washers are not some oddball niche machinery .
    They feed humanity .

Am happy to see a vacuum. Most of the Au will be from there.
Jason, you can't trust the detector on that quartz. You can have a pile of fines and the detector won't go off; too fine to be read. Only way to be sure is your way: crush. Hope you brought home a few bags to sample. I typed previous prior to 2nd half of vid, so you saw how a detector won't always hit on the fine Au. So again, hope you brought home some Q to sample.

That hand operated dry washer looks like one that used to be made by a fellow in Randsburg CA. I have one (along with 5 other drywashers) I tested it once up on the gravel beside the San Miguel river and it worked good. After running long enough for the tails to come up to the bottom of the dry washer sluice, I ran 3 five gallon buckets of fines that came off the end thru a spiral wheel and there was maybe 100 pieces of very fine gold but if you put them all together they might have made one of the larger pieces ( about 1/16 in across) that the dry washer caught. I was quite impressed. I ran the dry washer for 15 - 20 minuets and maybe another 5 minuets to pan the material. It took 2.5 hours to run the 3 buckets thur the spiral wheel and pan the cons. These cons consisted of 3 three quarter full 14 inch gold pans of black sands to get the very fine gold separated. Imagine if I had just run the dry washer for that 2.5 hours. I would probably had 10 - 15 grams of gold.

Fantastic video!!! I was wondering if you do more digging into the banks of the washes, or into the wash itself. I have moved down to Arizona and am having trouble finding enough gold to make my effort worth while. My best day in three years of desert mining has been just short of a 1/4 of a gram. I am finding gold on most trips, but nothing I my opinion to run my drywasher. I have heard to stay out of the washes, dig in the sides of the washes, and even had someone tell me to dig well above the washes. I am still baffled on were to dig and get a little better showing on a more consistent basis. Thanks for any help you can give me. I just got back from two days of sampling. Didn't find anything that I would set for. I think I am digging in the wrong places.
    Thanks again
