    If you're thinking of immigrating to Toronto, don't do it. The city is experiencing a housing crisis. You'll be relegated to a basement unit in a house that's almost as expensive as a unit in a building but way shittier (good basements with good landlords are rare). The waitlists for affordable housing is very long (we're talking years) as a result.

    This is really useful video for new comers. There are so many new immigrants that do not know about Co-operative housing if you qualify for good subsidy and can wait. So this is one of the cheaper options in Toronto where rents are ever increasing.

    Sir,I would like to you about living in the Co operative housing society ( CHS ) in Canada.Here,in India,there are people who come to live as tenants in CHS and they can only stay there for a period eleven months.There are also many such people who are the owners and they live here.Kindly let me know how is the system in Canada !

    Please, do not apply for this kind of housing unless you are a low income person/family or if you have some kind of disability that prevents you from renting in normal places. Regular people who are just looking for cheap places to live, are only driving up the wait list, and people who really need these units are being denied access. The wait list can be 10/12 years!! That’s ridiculous and unfair to the people who need these types of housing to live.

    • @Em-ep8rz
      @Em-ep8rz 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That is true for low income/subsidized housing, but not for co-operative housing. The most successful co-ops have people from many different lived experiences and income levels. It's collaborative. People contribute according to their means and like any good community it takes all types of people. We should be working for all housing to be co-operative. Holding the city, province and federal governments to fund co-op housing. It is for profit housing that is the true enemy here.

      It is true. Many co-ops in Montreal are subsidized, hence the lower than average rents.
      How so? For-profit housing is why city governments have any revenue at all.

      @@shauncameron8390 the money from for-profit housing go directly into the hands of land lords and not to the city. with not-for-profit housing the money saved by the tenants is kept local rather than being moved out to some foreign reit.

    This is my true horrific experience that happened to me renting apartments in Montreal, i had to look for a new apartment to rent due to having to leave my apartment i was at due to fire damages that was caused by another tentant in apartment complex,anyhow i soon there after found a new apartment,this new apartment was renting for $1100.00 it had just been renovated and really nice and clean,however my horrific experience was just about to get much worse,just at the time the covid19 outbreak came around i was settling into my new apartment and really happy i had found a new place,so i thought...i soon began feeling very sick in this apartment and i kept trying to figure out why i was feeling this way,well to keep this short,i found out after 5 months and becoming really sick that drug dealers had rented and set up a crystal meth lab in an apartment agent to my mine and the fumes from cooking or making this crystal meth drug had been seeping into my apartment and getting me very very sick, still today i have lingering bad symptoms do to the meth poisoning, i have seen doctors and explained to them about my bad experience,i have persistance symptoms of lung problems, sinuses and bad migrains,i found out the chemical these drug dealers were using to make or cook this crystal meth was called Ether,Ether is a mix of sulfuric acid and alcohol along with other very toxic dangerous chemicals,however the Ether chemical mix has a very deceiving sweet smell not a bad smell which makes it deceiving to the sense of smell leaving you thinking how wounderful the air smells around one, because Ether is very difficult to detect in the air because it blends well with other smells,chances are one becomes poisoned before figuring out, if you`ve rented apartments before you know you will have all kinds of new smells around,how i found out there was a crystal meth lab next to my apartment is another story,by that time i had found out i had been poisoned really bad, but what was just as bad as getting poisoned sick is that when meth contamination seeps into apartments,everything becomes contaminated,i mean everything,from cloths to furniture,tv bed,frigo ect ect to the smallest objects,everything nothing escapes,i couldn`t take anything with me due to meth residue contamination,these meth lab residue spores are really really bad,they will linger in everything for years and continue making one very sick, it is very very hard to wash or get rid of,i had to dispose of everything i had,thousands of dollars lost,all my belongings,it was horrible so horrible,the land lord of the building had no idea this was going on and only later to find out, from what i have found out,these dangerous meth lab apartments are quite common,real scary,i rent from a friend now and will never again rent from strangers,i still feel sick with lasting bad symptoms and fearing for my health over time,please i would like to know if any readers reading this had similar experience,please feel free to reply,the Ether mix is of sulfuric acid and alcohol making it very toxic and poisonous,very hard to detect it`s fumes in the air because of it`s sweet smell plus these fumes and spores could travel long distance if in buildings,buildings where meth labs were set up are health risks for all tenants in building,other chemicals also used are ammonia and acetone in the making of crystal meth,Renters beware.
