They are discovered not invented. Btw, greek mathematician Archimedes discovered pi. Zero was indeed discovered by Indian mathematician Aryabhatta.

To make it even more easier and less frightening you should have said that Calculus all start with the Rise/Run on your curve then slide the tangent a bit to get to the point we want to find.
Things we all learned as small kids. Integration is the other way around.
No one should be ever be scared of Calculus......
