Possibly the greatest year in WWE history in terms of storytelling. The midcard was mostly shit, but there were some stars on the rise that were destined for greatness like Triple H, Mankind and The Rock, as well as a stacked main event roster who each seemed to have at least two feuds at once, and all were somehow interlinked with each other or led into the next feud. Bret feuded with Austin and HBK, the first leading to USA vs. Canada and Austin vs. Owen, and the feud between HBK/Bret led to HBK feuding with Taker, who at the same time was feuding with Paul Bearer and Mankind, which led to the Taker/Kane feud, which also resulted in a split between Bearer and Mankind, and so on and so forth. And despite all that went down in real life with HBK and Bret fighting backstage, Austin getting injured, the Montreal Screwjob and all that chaos, I don't think I have ever seen another year in wrestling where ALL the pieces fell into each other so perfectly. Well apart from gang warfare and the Junior-heavyweight division. That was shit. But hey, at least it introduced me to Taka Michinoku and Great Sasuke back then. It is the first time we ever see the WWF scratch logo, the first time we get a WWF Attitude commercial (which ironically included Bret Hart), and the first time we ever hear the D-Generation X music (which was used to promote the December PPV). Bret vs Taker at SummerSlam is the best wrestling match ever, and shows why you don't need to do 500 movez a minute to have a good match. Shawn Michaels plays the role of referee to perfection. Every single thing that happens in the match matters and makes sense. Bret gives Undertaker by far his best match of his first 15 years. And damn, that finish. Bret Hart in 97 is the best single year any wrestler ever had.

@@heisenberg9240 well it be when the videos starts to be interesting if they they just make shorter videos or start grouping years Edit Its really going to be interesting when they hit the 80s
Wasn’t the reason for the Final Four match because Austin eliminated Undertaker, Brett and Vader illegally not the last 4 in rumble? I can’t remember the reasoning for the match
The description of the guys in the Rockabilly match from Revenge of the Taker is 95% of their roster today. "Drifting off aimlessly towards nothing." And the performers are at no fault for that. Talking Smack and RAW talk are proof that these people can give themselves some direction if they were allowed to.
Why is HBK the clear GOAT?!?! With the weakest roster ever in the mid 90s you never hear "shawn just couldn't have a bad match with that guy" even the best of the best had their best matches with HBK
"The Montreal Screwjob has been dissected to death over the last 20+ years" *Months later* "Hey, we made another feature-length Screwjob documentary!" Hmmm.
Difference between marks and wrastlin fans is marks only care about a ppv's in ring work, wrastlin fans like all the build up before, during and after a ppv.
Montreal Screwjob = wrong actions but necessary. Bret is morally right but Vince did what was necessary and I will never blame him for that. Could other things have happened? Yes. But the fact is Shawn stuck to his heels and Bret insisted on entering Montreal and leaving the place as Champion.
Diesel wasn’t In the final four because he was eliminated by Bret hart who was still legal in the match Vader taker and Bret were in the match because they were all illegally eliminated by Austin who came back in the ring that was the whole point 🤦🏻♂️
How Owen didn't become a main event mega face after the screw job boggles the mind... (looking at you HBK and HHH). 1997 royal rumble could of been awesome. Owen and British Bulldog only lasted like 7 minutes if they were 2 of the final competitors with Bret Taker Mankind Vader it would of made it a lot more anticlimactic. They were the biggest stars in that rumble other then those guys so idk why eliminate them so early
I hate beating this horse, but eh whatevs. I fail to see how people can think Vince was in the wrong. He did what he had to do to protect his promotion. Yea, his own fuck up for not getting the belt off Bret before freeing him up, but that's neither here nor there. That's coming from someone who considers Bret his personal GOAT. My all time favorite, and even I'm saying Vince wasn't wrong. I hated it, it sucked beyond belief, but it was a necessary evil that had to happen. Special mention, the DX PPV has Russo's diarrhea all over it.

@@Zombiekilleryamato 1986 is the one with one PPV I think, but if they split the three cities into separate shows
Brian Pillman was scheduled to face Dude Love at Badd Blood not Goldust
I'ma make a prediction and think Canadian stampede is number 1
Wasn’t the reason for the Final Four match because Austin eliminated Undertaker, Brett and Vader illegally not the last 4 in rumble? I can’t remember the reasoning for the match
Next is the year I was born
Never forget Jim neidhart NOT shaving his goatee off after Owen and Brian losing there matches
The description of the guys in the Rockabilly match from Revenge of the Taker is 95% of their roster today. "Drifting off aimlessly towards nothing." And the performers are at no fault for that.
Talking Smack and RAW talk are proof that these people can give themselves some direction if they were allowed to.
"I thought he was a flag" lulz That's tremendous and true
Please do "EVERY NXT call-up ranked from WORST to BEST"
love thease seires r u gunna do wcw too ?
Amazing how the product got better when Vince Russo started writing which of course he will never get credit for
The product quickly deteriorated once he got more control. 1999 is a fucking mess.
Every member of NWO ranked from worst to best
Why is HBK the clear GOAT?!?! With the weakest roster ever in the mid 90s you never hear "shawn just couldn't have a bad match with that guy" even the best of the best had their best matches with HBK
Soldiers in Spandex should be a new stable version reminiscent of Misfits in Action.
It was Dude Love Pillman was facing at Bad Blood.
1997 Big 5 PPVs:
1. Summerslam: 8.5/10
2. Royal Rumble: 7.5/10
3. King of the Ring: 5.5/10
4. Survivor Series: 4.5/10
5. Wrestlemania 13: 2.5/10
"The Montreal Screwjob has been dissected to death over the last 20+ years"
*Months later*
"Hey, we made another feature-length Screwjob documentary!"
Hmmm.
Every Raw after Wrestlemania ranked from worst to best
Undertaker was not Paul Bearer's son though. Kane was. Kane and Undertaker had the same mom.
If that's true imagine how undertaker felt giving that tombstone on sid
Keep falling asleep during the Harris twins matches and they might just have a “word” with you in the shower Mr. Pacitti
The description says 1998.
I think it’s very telling how many times Michaels main evented over Bret, even when Bret was champ. Tells you all you need to know
U could definitely tell with the hart heel turn too, Vince had already sown the seeds of letting Bret Walk.
My favorite year in wwe
Difference between marks and wrastlin fans is marks only care about a ppv's in ring work, wrastlin fans like all the build up before, during and after a ppv.
Only slightly disappointed as I read the title wrong. I didn’t see WWE and wanted to see a ranking of all PPVs including the ECW and WCW ones
JOIN US
Diesel wasn’t In the final four because he was eliminated by Bret hart who was still legal in the match Vader taker and Bret were in the match because they were all illegally eliminated by Austin who came back in the ring that was the whole point 🤦🏻♂️
@@kamarichristie4346 still got eliminated by Bret and not Austin
Not sure how Vince wasn't 100% in the right regarding Survivor Series '97...
We’re counting UK only “PPVs” as PPV events now?
Yeah because UK fans had to pay to view them.
