0:42 Kiryu outright stated Infernity Climber, but Lotten was so preoccupied by Death Gunman pointing a gun to his head that he didn't notice Death Gunman wasn't the only one whose effect is activated. If he noticed, he probably would have realized earlier that Climber is likely a card that ensured Kiryu to draw a monster, which is the reason why Kiryu took the bet.
The guy just forgot how chains work in this game. Then again, Kiryu purposefully only explained Gunman's effect and withheld Climber's effect until after Lawton made his choice, so Kiryu did technically trick him.

The first time I saw this episode was actually the dub version, by myself. But when I finally saw the Japanese version of this episode along with my Dad, we were actually shocked that they resumed the duel. And let me tell you, I was so happy that this duel had a conclusion. 😁
The 4Kids version didn't do it because they didn't want kids to think gambling to set a criminal free was alright. Good way to teach children, but nowhere near as awesome.

Best character in 5ds. I remember watching this the first time and being so disappointed his cards werent even made yet. I'm rewatching 5ds and haven't gotten to this part yet but I'm st his first appearance as a dark signer and it just brought so many memories of how much of a badass he is. The gun duel disk is too 🔥

The best part of this is the departure from the old kiryu/kalin who was doing the full gamble deck before but now has fully accepted his life as his own
In turn 1, Kiryu discarded 4 of his starting hand which included 3 cards he later used: the first gunman, beast and beetle (revived with mirage) and another unmentioned card. Could it be that climber had always been in his graveyard the whole time, but he just wait for the situation that Lotten will “definitely” take the gunman’s bet.
The guy was literally so pointless to the plot that he only served to be relevant in literally ONE important arc throughout the entire show, and despite even having close ties with the main cast themselves in the past. 🙄 I'd much rather they dedicated an entire arc on explaining Demak's origins, considering we never really got anything more from him other than him being a Dark Signer that works for Rudger. Other than that, Crash Town arc was a complete waste of filler garbage.

As for climber, he’d be even worse if he gets the same effect as in the anime because you could only use it when you have 0 cards in your hand, meaning that your entire hand for next turn would only be climber which by itself is just a regular 4* monster that does nothing on the field. You’d have to already have set up your GY a ton in order for it to maybe be useful and even then, you’d simply better be off with playing one of the better infernity cards

if anyone is wonder why Kiryu was so dead set(hehe) on going after Lotten to finish a card game here's your context: the two kids from Crash Town who he met? their father sacrificed his life so Kiryu and his kids could be freed from the mines where many people, the father included, were being forced into labor, and that man died, he wasn't saved by a ledge or miraculously came back, he is D.E.A.D and Kiryu wasn't going to let Lotten get away and render his sacrifice in vain, that's why he wanted to end the duel and put a solid vision bullet to Lotten's head.

Well to tell you the truth in all the bullshit you pulled I kinda lost track myself. theirs no filler in the anime after duel monsters, because after that what comes first is more canon. For DM & Season 0 the manga was canon as it came first. For GX, 5D's, Zexal, Arc V, Vrains the anime was canon while the manga was filler, cause the anime came before. The mangas of GX & 5D's are criminally short a mere 9 volumes which is fucking pathetic, they should have each had at-LEAST 20 volumes but no, the fucking pussy writers of the mangas cut them short now.

You focused on Infernity Doom Slinger, that you forgot about Infernity Climber." (Cuts to Lawton) "Now, your end has come." Lawton: "...Ahhhhhhhhh!" (Gunfire) "...Y...Y-You..." (Lawton's LP: 800->0 ...Lawton collapses. Kalin sheaths his Duel Disk) Kalin: "...Finally... It's all over now."
Perfect- but I would have swapped the "So, what will you choose, Lawton!?" to "So ask yourself... Do you feel lucky, Lawton!?" The Dirty Harry reference is just too perfect NOT to make.
And we just got a new card with a terrible english version of its name referencing this arc, so I'll use the original, Return of the Reaper. Lotton fell for the tried and true way for a yugioh player to lose. He didn't read.
That's not entirely the case. Kalin actually retains some of his powers as a dark signer so he's able to create physical damage with his cards to a certain extent. So lawton actually recieved a bullet to the head.
Not telling Climber's effect and using chainlinks (just like in competitive gameplay), along with using the very best deck competitive wise, Kiryu really was a special character in the show. This arc didn't feel interesting to me back when I first watched it, but as time has gone by the show just keeps offering me new things to pick up on.
I know what your thinking, is his top card a monster card or not a monster card. Well to tell you the truth, in all this excitement, I kinda lost track myself. But being Infernity Death Gunman is in my graveyard, I negate the effect damage and can reduce your life points to zero if you call it right. You got to ask yourself one question. Do I feel lucky? Well do you, Punk?
My dialogue theory in eng version of this: Lawton: Here we go! Blaster Ogre, do your thing and blast away this dragon! Since your Doom Dragon's attack is 3000, the half of this more than enough to finish you, Kalin! A third Doom Counter will send you and your creepy monsters into oblivion! What in the...? Kalin: Too bad, because I activated my Infernity Climber and Doom Slinger's abilities. You know a drill. If I draw a monster, you're gone for. But if this card will be Spell or Trap, then I'll lose. I lost a count how many monsters are in my deck currently. So... do you feel lucky? Lawton: Very well. Do your worst. Hahahahaah! You're done! Kalin: Infernity Climber have a other opinion! Lawton: What? B-But I though your top card...?! Kalin: Was a Blaster Cadridge? Too bad. You was so focused on Doom Slinger you're forgot about Infernity Climber. It climbed on top of my deck. Lawton: Lucky you... creepy little punk... Kalin: This wasn't a luck... ...this was my spirit.
I'm assuming that Kiryu have some of that Dark Signer powers left to knockout Lotten? Also, if Des Gunman and Climber would one of these days or years they made real in both the TCG and OCG: It wouldn't be a surprise that their effects would go hand in hand together. Especially with Climber, who would gain an update with it's effect.

the two kids from Crash Town who he met? their father sacrificed his life so Kiryu and his kids could be freed from the mines where many people, the father included, were being forced into labor, and that man died, he wasn't saved by a ledge or miraculously came back, he is D.E.A.D and Kiryu wasn't going to let Lotten get away and render his sacrifice in vain, that's why he wanted to end the duel and put a solid vision bullet to Lotten's head.

Technically a filler arc but it answered the fans' question of where Kiryu was.
theirs no filler in the anime after duel monsters, because after that what comes first is more canon.
For DM & Season 0 the manga was canon as it came first. For GX, 5D's, Zexal, Arc V, Vrains the anime was canon while the manga was filler, cause the anime came before.
The mangas of GX & 5D's are criminally short a mere 9 volumes which is fucking pathetic, they should have each had at-LEAST 20 volumes but no, the fucking pussy writers of the mangas cut them short now.

This got intense when Gunman got his gun ready waiting to pull the trigger when Kalin tells him to.
This story arc was edited out of the US release of Yu-Gi-Oh 5Ds series
Kiryu was so op he had access to quick effects over 10 years before they became meta
And those cards still have yet to be in the TCG.
And he had a card that acts as a fail-safe in case you drop him to 0 LP. Talk about crazy.
Here's what the dub of this should've been...
Lawton: You remember Blaster Ogre's effect, don't you? Infernity Doom Dragon is automatically destroyed! And when my Blaster Ogre shoots down a monster, half that monster's Attack Points are taken out of your Life Points, Kalin! And since you have 2 Doom Counters already, this shot will be the end for you as I take total control of Crash Town and send you and Yusei back to the mines for good!
(The bullet misses Kalin)
Lawton: I missed? (Infernity Doom Slinger appears)
Kalin: You missed because I activated the effects of my Infernity Doom Slinger and Infernity Climber!
Lawton: WHAT?!
Kalin: Now you have a choice to make. You can choose not to activate Doom Slinger's effect, which means you can't deal any damage at all this turn. Or you can activate Doom Slinger's effect and if you do, I draw a card and if it's a mosnter, the damage you would've dealt to me is directed back to you...and with only 800 points left, it'll mean the end of your reign here in Crash Town as Yusei and I would win the duel. Anything else and that would be the 3rd Doom Counter, giving you victory and total control of the town. So what will it be, Lawton? Do you feel lucky?

Kalin: I activate the Spell Blaster Cartridge! Next I send the top 4 cards of my deck to the Graveyard and draw 1 card, then I return Blaster Cartridge to the top of my deck. When I draw it again, it gets sent to the Graveyard.
Lawton: (thinking) ...it's that Blaster Catridge Spell he played his last turn. (aloud) Draw your last card, Kalin!
Kalin: Very well...
Lawton: Blaster Ogre, END THIS DUEL!
Kalin: Not so fast, Lawton! I've drawn the Monster Card Infernity Climber!
Lawton: Infernity Climber?! When'd that enter the Graveyard?
Kalin: When I activated Blaster Cartridge last turn, I sent 4 cards from the top of my deck to the Grave. One of which was Infernity Climber. When I have no cards in my hand and Climber is in my Graveyard, I can use Climber's effect to allow it to climb from my Graveyard to the top of my deck. You were too focused on Doom Slinger that you forgot about Infernity Climber. That will cost you dearly. DOOM SLINGER, END HIM!
(Cuts to Lawton, who now hears cocking from Doom Slinger's blaster)

Kalin: When you fired your shot, I activated the effects of Infernity Doomslinger and Infernity Climber that were in my Graveyard. You know the rules. Choose not to make me draw, and the damage is cancelled out entirely. Honestly, I've forgotten how many monsters are left in my Deck. So tell me: how lucky do you feel, Lawton?
Lawton: (I know what's at the top of his Deck. It's Blaster Cartridge...right?) ...Do it. Draw your last card.

While I get why they cut this from the dub it was still satisfying as heck to see.

That's not entirely the case. Kalin actually retains some of his powers as a dark signer so he's able to create physical damage with his cards to a certain extent. So lawton actually recieved a bullet to the head.
I thought Kalins voice actor sounded familiar. Turns out it's the same voice actor who voiced Josuke in JoJo

Not telling Climber's effect and using chainlinks (just like in competitive gameplay), along with using the very best deck competitive wise, Kiryu really was a special character in the show. This arc didn't feel interesting to me back when I first watched it, but as time has gone by the show just keeps offering me new things to pick up on.
