WHAT: 2,382nd Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame
WHERE: 1750 Vine Street in front of the legendary Capitol Records building
WHEN: Tuesday, April 14, at 11:30 a.m.
George Harrison was born on February 25, 1943 in Liverpool. After a stint playing with his group the Rebels, George, together with his schoolmate Paul McCartney, joined John Lennons Quarrymen. He was fifteen at the time, and the stage was set for The Beatles to emerge as the best possible news in post-War Britain.
Over the course of The Beatles' career, Harrison played the role of guitarist, singer and songwriter. His contributions to The Beatles catalogue include I Need You, Taxman, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Something and Here Comes the Sun, to name only a few. His lifelong interest in Indian culture advanced considerably through his friendship with Ravi Shankar and affected all of The Beatles and their musical explorations.
In the years immediately following the break-up of The Beatles, George released his first solo album All Things Must Pass to worldwide acclaim, followed by further major recordings, the bulk of which went gold or platinum. One could argue that The Concert for Bangladesh, featuring Georges friends Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, Ravi Shankar, Leon Russell, Ringo Starr, and others, has had the greatest impact. As a response to a world crisis, it was like nothing that the music business had witnessed up to that point and earned a Grammy for Album of the Year in 1973.
In 1987 on the heels of Georges top ten album Cloud Nine he formed the Traveling Wilburys with Bob Dylan, Jeff Lynne, Roy Orbison and Tom Petty. Handle with Care was the Wilburys first single and it caught the world by surprise. The Wilburys would go on to earn a Grammy and are still remembered as the supergroup with no equal.
After a life of excursions in the arts and spiritual adventures, George Harrison passed away in 2001. The following year, A Concert for George was organized by Eric Clapton and Olivia Harrison. Filmed at The Royal Albert Hall his former bandmates Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne created a magical night. The event captured something of the warm and intense impact George had on those fortunate enough to know him well.
His songwriting was powerful enough to generate standards in the field. His love for humour and film turned him, almost inadvertently, into an important movie producer. And, without a doubt, his contribution to The Beatles left an indelible mark on that bands music and character-we hear it still.
Martin Scorsese is currently directing a documentary feature about George's remarkable life, and on April 14, Capitol/EMI will announce plans for a new George Harrison music release.

I don't think I've ever seen a child look more like his father. Dhani is the spitting image of George, it's nice to see.
Olivia's speech was so true!! We miss you George, the world will never forget you.
I literally started crying when they revealed the star. George definitely deserved a star on the Walk of Fame. :)
Some legends come and go, but this man will stand the test of time.
George was a genius!!
He had that reserved wisdom, found in silence and observation of his surroundings.
I loved how Dhani kissed his hand and then touched the star!
And Paul... Still such a little kid! Haha!
GEORGE LIVES ON FOREVER!!!
Wow, Olivia still looks really young considering she was born in '48.
This is so sweet! George is a true sage among the musicians. He had such important things to impart about the nature of life here in this world. He did not hide his spiritual realizations, for the benefit of anyone who had the ears to hear. Real spiritual wisdom may not be for everyone, but fortunately, love is. George left so much love in the world!!!!! As Dhani said, summing up the essence of George's beautiful life perfectly, Hare Krishna! God and Goddess in personal form, in Their Names, being the highest octave of love, Love Divine. Thank you, George, your star continues to shine brighter and brighter!
I am proud to say that George got his star on my birthday! I only wish I could have been there. Love ya, George!
George died 29 November 2001 not 2003.I miss him so much he was a lovely man a great composer and I miss his lovely guitar playing.
Beautiful. Just so stunning. All I can say is WHAT THE HELL TOOK SO LONG?! RIP dear, sweet Georgie. We all miss you so so much!
i think thats great!! Finally George has his star! and is very sad. we miss you george! i feel so bad!
damn, george's son looks just like him...the great pearl that he left with us, we still remember you george!
Did anyone else burst into tears when Dhani said "Hare Krishna" and when they kissed his name?
Beautiful. Thank you for so much, George!!
Does any one know why Tom Hanks was privy to the photo shoot? Of all Georges close friends to include Jeff Lynne, Ringo, Tom Petty, etc one has to wonder where Hanks fits in with all this.
I love Olivia's speech is so beautiful*-*
:) congrats George
Dhani: ' HARE KRISHNA'
OMG who can tell me that Paul's smile at 3:28 is not the same as when the Beatles started?! Another clue that hi is not dead.
What a fun event! I was glad I went to see the unveiling of the star. George is my favorite Beatle and this was such great and poignant tribute. By the way, thanks for using my poster at the end of your video.
I cannot believe how much dhani looks like his father!!!
How cool was that !!!!!!! We all are going to miss George !!!!! I met him once at a party in N. Y. in the early 70's. He could'nt have been nicer . Such a sweet guy . R.I.P. George !!!!!!!! It was great to see Paul there !!!!!!!
Love You George!
That's crazy. He should have gotten the star while he was alive.
George deserves that and more!
Haha and Paul winking as always!
He is still the flirty and cute Paul, ahhh
@Bmcgov133
Yes, his name is Dhani. At the Concert for George, Paul McCartney remarked that with Dhani on stage it looked like they had all gotten older while George had stayed younger. Dhani has also taken some photos will his girlfriend looking a lot like Olivia and George for some magazine. Its all on the web if youre interested.
I LOVE GEORGE!!!
PAUL IS FANTASTIC!!!
@Bmcgov133 yes- that's Dhani Harrison, George's only son- who is also a musician and has his own band and played at the Concert For Geroge- the tribute concert
Congratulations George !!!
Nice to hear! I never heard about it? I just love those films already made about the Beatles like "Backbeat", "The hours and times", "The Linda McCartney story", is there any one else made?
Well, he deserves it more than Ryan Seacrest. What has Ryan done besides annoy the hell out of us for eight boring years of American Idol. George has had billions of fans for over 40 years!
Just to clue you in, me my boyfriend and a friend clean John's, The Beatles and now George's star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. When a star is awarded posthumously they have to wait 5 years before it can be considered. Money has to raised and at least 2 members of the family have to okay it and schedule to be at the unveiling. This star was okayed nearly 2 years ago, the scheduling was a different story.
out of all the beatles george was the least hollywood .he was just a cool guy
Wow, Paul and George were such great friends.
It's weird that John and George died about 20 years apart in the beginning of each decade;John-beginning of the 80's.George-beginning of the 00's
I can't wait for the George Harrison movie that Martin Scorsese is going to put out!
I was at Hollywood yesterday and spent my whole day looking for this star.... But never found it...
how come ringo didnt show up ?
um... where was Ringo?
YAY!
it was well known among the beatles fans that george had died at Paul´s house? I mean, if i am not wrong, at that time the press talk about another place.
Also can someone please explain me what name does the man say in order to joke about it?
I agree but it isn't a question of who is more deserving, it's really a question of who really wants it. And American Idol is only boring if you watch it. If you don't.....hehe......it's not boring.
Where's Ringo??
@MissQuietGirl He was joking around like he was polishing it so it would be shiny.
John has a star, just a few feet from George's. Ringo and Paul don't have one.
But if they don't want it, why make them have it anyway?!? All in all, it was a great day. I was there and what a great time everyone had.
Why not? XD
You're a lucky duck though. I wish I had been there.
DHANI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
is this when george was alive? or after he died?
i know, right? why wait till after 8 years that he's been dead? GO GEORGE!
is that tom hanks there
If Eric Clapton was there...
@Bmcgov133 Yes, he's his son...wonderful...!!!
True but most likely he would not have wanted it. While alive, he would've had final say so. They even said, I think it was Eric Idle, that he would've thought it as being ridiculous.
Well, that's gonna change when I run the committe, lolz.
Cancer is a chronic metabolic disease.
@sk8ergirl2908 ????
lol why did paul wipe the star with a tissue?
Are you high, or something? I was there, Kevin was not.
pual you make me luagh
is that a joke?
$6,000 is chump change for anyone eligible for a Hollywood Star anyway...
