    Great video! I've yet to read Life A User's Manual, but I've read a few other of Perec's books and he is certainly one of my favourite authors. Super insightful review and I love all the connections you make to other authors, can't wait to dive into this one myself.

    Excellent analysis of an incredible book, great job! I just finished it and I felt that I could be in its universe for ever, just keep reading about the people and their many, many stories.

    Hi jorge!what a pleasure to see you again, my friend! This book has been sitting on my shelf for ages. But now, after having listened to your magnificent review, I want to read it as soon as possible. You are for me such a source of inspiration! Thanks! Have a nice day and see you in the next video. Ps. In these days I am reading all gombrowicz's books on which I can put my hands on. Gombrowicz lived almost 25 years in Buenos aires becoming acquainted with borges, whom he detested, robert arlt and other writers. Have you read any gombrowicz's books?thanks again.

      @JorgesCorner  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much for your kind words, my dear friend! 😃 I hope you get the chance to experience Perec soon. Gombrowicz, wow! I need to read more by him. Many years ago, I read Ferdydurke, but I feel it went over my head, so I should reread that and maybe try other books by him too. There is a very strong connection with Argentina, as you point out. Ricardo Piglia was a big fan of him. I'll let you know when I read Gombrowicz again. Thanks again, Marinella, and have an amazing day!

    Burroughs did somewhat similar thing with the list of acknowledgements in one of his novels, but dedicated it to demons, death-gods and Cthulhu.

    • @JorgesCorner
      @JorgesCorner  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That makes perfect sense! 😄 I need to dedicate a novel to Cthulhu someday. The only other author I remember reading who included a list of acknowledgements is Juan Goytisolo, in Count Julian (Reivindicación del conde don Julián). Have a wonderful day, my friend!

    Like the review. If you remember the two letters at the end of the novel, he has another novel called W, which relates quite closely to this one. To give you a taste, that title, 'W', puns with 'double life; in French. Give it a try if you have the time.

    • @JorgesCorner
      @JorgesCorner  ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow, what a cool pun with the W! I plan to read much more by Perec, and W is definitely on my list. Thank you for watching, and for the recommendation! 😃

    Wonderful video.
    Confession: I completely bounced off both Life:A User's Manual and Hopscotch (Rayuela) but this video nudged me to keep an open mind and maybe revisit in the future.
    Even with The Hive (which I read after watching your video on it) and Moby Dick, I feel so lost.
    Borges' short fiction is easier to follow for me (provided I let it simmer in my mind or read it with someone I can discuss with).
    But a novel that is adrift - as you mentioned in the video - tough, so tough for me to stay connected. Ultimately I got frustrated. 🤣
    Curiously, the novel that I liked a lot is 2666. But then I didn't like Savage Detectives so no idea. 🤣
    Happy reading. I have noted down The Poetics of Space, although philosophy...hmm. But I will try. And maybe, just maybe, I will give Life another chance some time. Or should it be Rayuela getting the second chance? You decide. 🤔😁

      Thank you for watching and commenting, my friend! 😃 I totally understand, and honestly, I have to be in the mood for "meandering" novels. I usually find them refreshing after reading more traditional stuff for a long time. I'm a big fan of Moby Dick, by the way, haha. And you're absolutely right: Borges is a great antidote for these centrifugal texts. 2666 and The Savage Detectives... wow. I also prefer 2666, but I must say I enjoyed Bolaño's shorter works more than either one. But then again, I'm a novella guy! Regarding Life and Rayuela, hm... I think my opinion is biased here, but I would go with Rayuela. Or I would toss a coin. 🤣 Hope you enjoy The Poetics of Space! I need to revisit Bachelard; it's been a while. Happy reading, Paromita, and thank you once again!

    Many protagonists (unlike those in Les Chose unnamed)- so the reader constructs the plot by selective reading. Perec writes puzzles (famous crucigrammist, potential literaturist, guiness record holder) but not difficult in my mind because many answers are possible. Dispatiion famously has no 'e' in the novel- who are the eventual Revenentes: existential, the feminine, Jews, eux the parents?... Enjoy his works at many levels- no need to read literally or linearly. Not just capital 'L' literature he says- we drool over menus like poems and catalogues of thousand pages make us dream...

      Fantastic analysis, Dan! 😃 I've been meaning to read more by Perec since I experienced this work of genius, but unfortunately I haven't had the chance yet. I love the idea of puzzles that allow for more than one answer. What an excellent writer and storyteller. Thank you once again, my friend, and have a wonderful day!
