I CAN'T AFFORD LUXURY

- I can’t afford luxury anymore. I have other priorities that are taking presidents at the moment. So where does that leave my TH-cam channel? Will I still buy and talk about luxury bags? Will I switch over to contemporary bags instead?

PLEASE READ . I’m pinning this because it’s a common question.
I have considered all options. In order for me to do VINYL or TILE I would have to have my entire house demoed, then leveled and then tiled. If I replace the carpet I would only have to have the carpet replaced. Vinyl and/or tile will cost me almost triple the cost of just replacing the carpeted areas.
The carpeted area is roughly 1000 square foot. That’s a much smaller area than my whole house. If I do carpet I won’t have to have my tile ripped out. I can just replace the carpeted areas and keep the tile I have.
I won’t keep the tile I have and just replace the carpeted area with vinyl or a different porcelain tile. Vinyl is thinner than tile so they would line up. I also think it looks tacky to have tile butt right up to vinyl. I also think having different types butt up right next to each other looks tacky.
I hope this answers all of your questions concerning my flooring.
The moment I saw the *hotdups* handbag, I knew I had to have it. The luxurious materials, vibrant colors, and attention to detail make these bags a true fashion statement and I love this bag.
I really enjoyed this, we have lived in this house for 10 years and have no intentions to move. I love home Reno vlogs
Thank you Amelia. New isn’t always better.
I for one am here for WHATEVER content you have to share. Vlogs. Get ready with me. Home renovations. Handbags. WHATEVER. Each of us here are multidimensional. We are wives. Sisters. Friends. Employees. And handbag lovers. It’s perfectly natural to share more than just one thing on this platform. The name of your channel is your name. So it’s anything you feel comfortable sharing. I find that not having kids and my wife and I sharing our household responsibilities makes my handbag addiction slightly easier to manage. But I could probably do a LOT of other stuff with that money too. 😂
@@NothingButBags Thank you Liz. I’m excited for this new direction in my life. Handbags will still be the main focus of my channel, it’s what I love but there is more to life and I want to share it.

I love how you’ve found a way to still enjoy luxury items without going overboard-it’s such a smart balance! Honestly, trying to juggle life’s needs and personal wants is something I’m still learning. Your video really hit home for me, and I think a lot of us can benefit from your approach. Thanks so much for sharing your story! ❤️
I am very happy with the *hotdups* bag. The storage compartments are nice. Looks and feels like leather. The straps and zippers are great quality. Very happy with this purchase. I think I will buy here again in the future.
Thanks for sharing on how you afford luxury and how realistic it is which is what we all need to see. It is attainable if you choose to. I dont have a car note or credit card debt. I pay off my cards every month.
That is the best way to do it 🤍

Great video Melissa! Super relatable and appreciate you sharing about personal finance. I'm also middle class, married no kids, and currently share a car with my husband. Really not a big deal since I'm self-employed working at home. Didn't purchase my 1st designer bag until I was in my 40s and we'd paid off all student loans, bought/sold multiple homes, no consumer debt, etc. Still rocking an iPhone 13 Pro that's 3 years old and works just fine.
Grew up lower middle class. My parents couldn't afford nice vacations - we just went camping every summer. As an adult, I actually think that helped with my lifestyle expectations.
Would love to see more videos like this topic, how you manage as a mother of 6, where you spend vs splurge, best deals for the money, "keeping it real" vlogs and whatnot.
@@sunshinefashionlove Thank you so much. My iPhone is 3 years old too. It works just fine.
I went camping as a kid too. We loved it and never felt like we were missing out.
I bought my first luxury bag 4 years ago. I never even knew what luxury was on my 20’s 🤣
I save up for anything I want. I never had credit card debt and I only use cards with cash back rewards. I let it build up to $3500 once. That was free money! I bought an LV bag with it.
@@Jploveslv That is awesome Julie
@@MelissaAdams-Wade thanks
I will still watch. I think most people purchase handbags at a slower rate than how it appears out here on TH-cam, specifically. Nothing wrong with mixing it up. I love handbags but I like to watch other things too.
@@bagsandlifestyle I completely agree. If I didn’t have a TH-cam channel I wouldn’t have nearly as many bags as I do. I love bags and I’d definitely still have a variety just not as many.
Aquired my first LV bag after our youngest finished college. We sacrificed so that she would have minimal to no debt. I also do not do daily coffees, nail appts etc. I now have 3(Neverful MM in DA, PM in monogram, and an empreinte Easy Pouch on strap. I chose bags that I can use daily and for years to come. It is easy to see how people get addicted to buying luxury, but I do not want to buy something that I will not use and love.
It sounds like you did what’s best for you and your family and I think that’s amazing. 🩵🩵
I always appreciate and value your honesty. I have friends who earn the same amount of money but cannot effort luxury bags, it’s the matter of priorities. The unnecessary food deliveries, coffee to go each, multiple expensive drinks are indeed an equivalent of a luxury purchase. Also some people pay very highly rent just to have two extras guest bedrooms and they host guests maybe once a year, but pay double rent compared to mine. The list of examples is endless.
You nailed it. It’s all about what luxuries we choose to spend our money on .
Thank you for sharing Melissa! Honestly I’ve gone back and forth on luxury but have landed on the fact that I can’t afford luxury either! And at this point I don’t know if I want to. Love your channel whichever way it goes 🤍
Thank you 😊. Luxury is definitely still a part of my life, it’s just going to play a smaller role.

I would suggest to get the flooring you really want, and if that takes a bit longer, then it takes a bit longer. Also it’s always worth buying a sample of carpet/tile and putting it in different rooms and seeing how it looks when the light changes in that room, it can change your opinion. Carpet is warmer, deadens sounds more, and you can run a vacuum over it. Tiles can take longer to clean, are cold under the feet, but they can look really good. It was the same for Gwenny, she didn’t want to vlog because her old house wasn’t camera ready, I told her not to worry about things like that. People enjoy seeing other people just being normal and living in a normal way.
@@ItsOnlyWarPaint I agree. I would never judge anyone’s house or way of living. Unfortunately there are so many people who do. You will see a couple comments on this video showing judgment.
I’m leaning more towards doing carpet the longer I think about it. I like the tile we have so there is no reason to rip it out just to have new tile replace it. Unfortunately they don’t make the tile we have anymore so if I wanted to do away with carpet completely I had no choice but to rip it out and start over.
I agree with most. We have 7 kids and I’m a stay home mom. We are the same way. I don’t have any TV in any of our kids rooms. Same electronics until they break. Starbucks is a luxury. We grind our beans and brew coffee every morning. One thing I don’t agree with is trips. We travel and take all 7 kids on trips. They’re only young once and you never know what will come tomorrow. Take the trip. We are military and lived in Korea and traveled all over Asia with our kids and now in Germany and traveling all over Europe. The kids will remember and have those memories to hold on to when you’re older. Also I’m very low maintenance. I stopped dying my hair and getting my nails done 7 yrs ago. Sooo much money I have saved!
Us not going on a vacation isn’t about the money. It’s about the stress, it’s about my high anxiety, I don’t enjoy vacations. I’m constantly worried, on edge and feel like I can’t breathe. Tons of anxiety attacks. It’s not fun.
Very smart Melissa to stay in your home. It’s best for the kids while they are in school. They don’t want to move all the time and have to make new friends. We stayed in our home for 22 years before we moved to a new build the kids were already graduated college.
@@katemiller7874 That’s kind of the direction we are going in also. We live right next to the kids school and we have a nice house. There isn’t any reason to move at the moment. Once they graduate we plan to move and probably do a new build.

I love your video Melissa. As always, I love how you are always so genuine & candid. I am like you when it comes to replacing electronics, appliances & cars until they no longer work. I just replaced my 10 yr old lap top & it literally gave up on me completely so I had to get a new one since I do use it for work. I also got a new car last year, but it was only because the repairs were already costing us more than getting a new car and my husband and I don’t believe in buying brand new cars either. Cars lose their value as soon as they get out of the dealership so we buy our preowned, but with low milage & good brands that last a long time.
@@maris5508 I think a lot of luxury channels aren’t completely transparent about how they afford luxury and that’s totally okay. Nobody is obligated to share their financial situation. One of the things I pride myself on is transparency. I don’t care if people know I’m not rich. I don’t care if people know I have everyday struggles. That’s what makes me, me.

@@MelissaAdams-Wade 100 ! Balance is the key and you are amazing, Melissa!
I'm doing everything exactly like you guys. And we are saving so much money with these habits. And thats how I can afford nicer bags. But my preference are not the most expensive luxury bags. I get stressed using so expensive bags. Its more carefree for me to buy nice more affordable bags like Mulberry, Coach, Cala Jade, Coccinelle, Tory Burch, Furla.
I was embarrassed by my floors also. We just got new floors. We saved up the money in advance. I also sold a bag to make it happen. And they are light neutral wood floors. Wood floors are really common her in Norway.

Is your one vehicle a big, yellow bus? 😉 Honestly, in real life the majority of us don’t buy luxury as often as is shown here on the Tubes. Social Media is great for interacting with those that share our passions and hobbies and that we wouldn’t ordinarily get to meet because in life our social circles could be different, but I think it’s easy to get caught up in it and lose track of what’s important to our own families. Home is an investment, bags aren’t. You could do ‘Bag or Reno’, “Should I buy the P9 Speedy or porcelain tiles and a Longchamp?” 😂. Oh and I’m for landscaping the backyard first, too. You will enjoy being out there more if it suits your family needs. You look at the front of your house much less than the back.

Hey Melissa, Thank you for sharing your methods for fitting in luxury. I relate on the coffee 😊 We brew a big pot of Starbuck’s every morning. @@idaranwa4370 yes, I agree parents do prioritize what’s important. Every family financial and behavioral situation is different.
@@idaranwa4370 we enjoy our day trips. Going to amusement parks, the late night movies on a random weekday, going to jump street, rock climbing, go cart racing. There are so many memories that can be made with a family other than vacations.
Ok I finally commenting. I can relate to few things in this video.
First I didn't know you had 6 kids ❤ I have 3 young boys and can relate on a few things.
First- we don't do big vacations. We tried that, and wondered why we we were not enjoying it! 😅 it's too much work at this age group. So we take short gettaways. Less costly and a good on our temperament.
Second- we been in our home a long time even though from a lm outside perspective we could def use more space. We just make it work.
We also use furniture and appliances to the last drop. lol and I do mean last drop especially with 3 boys.m
I also do not eat out every weekend like most people and do expensive nails etc . We do a lot of local fun things and cook at home. My husband and I do "date days" vs date nights and go to breakfast and matinee movies.
Anyhow, I did TH-cam a couple years ago and stopped because it didn't feel authentic to my true life.
But I still enjoy luxury and contemporary and buy a couple times a year. Mostly preloved. Though:
I'm also looking to do some home improvements God willing in the next year or 2.
I will supportive whatever you do.
I hope that you will be able to do your home improvements soon. I know what it feels like to want to buy not be able to. Ours wasn’t due to financial reasons but the reasons really don’t matter.
I think that most parents can agree that buying new fancy things for the house isn’t smart when the kids are little.
I’ve tried the nice elaborate vacations with my kids also. Hated every second of it 🤣. I’d rather take them to amusement parks, renaissance festivals, rock climbing, river rafting etc than do a vacation.
@@MelissaAdams-Wade YES omg! This is what we do now- small doses. A carnival, a pool day etc. we would be sooo irritated because it just didn't look like what we saw on tv in reality! 😅😅

I’ve actually really enjoyed your latest videos. And I think most of us are in agreement that we’d be happy to watch you regardless of the direction you went in. With you sharing a bit more in this video, I realize we have quite a bit in common. I am a busy mama of five kiddos, and I also work and also make many of the same sacrifices to allow myself some simple luxuries. Recently, I am grateful that I have found myself not loving any luxury bags. I also second the not wanting to vacation or take elaborate vacations because of the torture that it would be with a large family. 😂
🤣 the torture of it. I think we are very similar. I’ve been really enjoying my DUYP purchases. I’m so glad I found a contemporary brand I love just as much as luxury. Next year will look very different for my purchases but I’m excited about it.
@@MelissaAdams-Wade same. I LOVE my DUYP items. All my SLG’s have been converted to her pieces.
We did porcelain wood tile …whole house. So, it’s now done forever ❤
That is awesome. I bet you are loving them.
This is very relatable to me. We also keep a modest home, have no debt except the house, don't buy most of anything until it breaks, either for electronics or in our home. We do travel a bit and it can get pretty pricey even for just a family of four, so I can't image a family of 8! And stressful with even just two young kids, so 6 kids sounds like a lot! But keeping everything else minimal and having two decent incomes leaves a good amount left over each month now that both kids are out of daycare. For now, much more of our money is being set aside for a big dream trip I've wanted to take forever, I will be saving for it for 2 years (whole family to South Africa and Namibia for 2 weeks), but can still siphon off just enough for one luxury purchase per year. Enjoy your new little luxuries. I know it feels great to finally get to a point where you can begin addressing some of these, and it's fun to even ponder the possibilities, like choosing between carpet and wood. When the time comes to replace ours, I hope/plan to keep carpet in the bedrooms, but wood in the living areas and hallways.

@@tdean5840 yes they are but the demo will still be up there in price.
I will still watch your videos.
Thank you so much
We are still doing renos and will be for a long time
🤍🤍
I know what you mean about Holidays and having a big family 😅 (we are 5) It can be stressful and very expensive as well!
But honestly those are the memories that last forever 🫶
Family vacation time is the best!
We also need to incorporate them more is our life! We used to take 2 vacations a year. One as a couple alone and ones with the kids!
We didn’t do it this year though.
I think this video is really interesting! Appreciate your transparency. I love watching family Vlogs!! I’m sure your content will be great 👍🏻
We make lots of family memories in other ways. Amusement parks, dinners around the table, birthdays, bbq’s, the lake ect. I do look forward to having more vacation time with my family.
@@MelissaAdams-Wade I bet you do!
Never a dull moment with a big Family.
I admire you 6 kids wow 🙌 we love your videos so we will be here. ❤
Thank you Keyla 💙💙
I sold one handbag to buy new bed and stuff for my child. Had a dream about priorities and find pleasure enjoying what i got now. Handbags dont make me much happier as i dont use them much due to lifestyle. I would look for deals, thats it. Also i never use money on nails, hair, spa, car, alcohol, smoke etc...this frees up money for some nice stuff once in a while
@@carrino15 I did my kids bedrooms a couple of years ago, new mattresses, new beds, bed sets ect and they have grown out of that style. I’ll definitely have to give them a teenage revamp soon.
Yeah, was something like that that actually happened. I refuse if i can afford it to get used bed, they could have bed bugs which could cost up to 2-8000 dollars to deal with. Btw with travels with six kids, make sure to check for bedbugs and scabies...brrh, yeah...😏😊👌
Julia Roberts. Yes you look like her to me. I have been watching you for a long time and will continue to watch your content. I’m sure we have more than handbags in common. Look forward to see all the things.i I’m here for it. TFS
@@sherritalbot3399 awe Thank you. I love Julia Robert’s. I wish I had her huge beautiful smile.
Thank you for supporting my channel. I’m sure we have more in common also 😄

We’re military 😞 we had to sell our home. It sucked lol
I’d love to see in depth what in my bag too!! I love them haha 😂
@@Zombiepinup12 I’m so sorry to hear that.
@@Zombiepinup12 I just recently did one on my Margaux bag
hello Melissa 👋👋
@@HassanAltun Hi 👋🏼
I don’t agree with you at all. Skrimping on travels to buy expensive bags? What? I would rather enjoy important things than buy those bags. They are for what? 😅😅😅
If I enjoyed traveling then that’s what I would spend my money on. Doesn’t make much sense to spend thousands on something I don’t enjoy 😉
Literally this is kinda like me! I didnt start driving until age 30 and we have one car! We like ridesharing (husband and i) and we dont have human kids.
@@azsakamoto4582 Everyone asks me why I don’t drive. It’s always a topic of conversation. Now I simply say I don’t want to and it doesn’t impact my life negatively.
walking around with a 4k Dior bag while having a broken microwave and dishwasher its wild 😅😅😅😅
@@MotivationMaster28 As I mentioned in the video, no home renovations or repairs could be done until we were done with court.
We also never wanted to have a dish washer. We never used it so why buy one?
Any how, this channel is clearly not for you. Toodles
I'd totally watch vlogs but I wouldn't watch if your kids were heavily featured because I don't think support family channels.
My kids will never be heavily featured in my videos. There are too many bad people out there. If I’m vlogging, chances are they will be in the back ground of pop in for a question or whatever. That’s just real life.
@@MelissaAdams-Wade awesome! Then let me know where to subscribe to the vlogging content :)
Can’t believe how many people have credit card debt 😢
A lot of people are really struggling and have to pay for essentials on credit cards.
Thank you for saying that Mellisa. It is not always luxury, sometimes it's survival for some
@@stacyb6461 I’ve been there. In survival mode hoping the milk lasts till payday and thanking God when the check covers all the bills. I find that most of the time it’s about survival. 🩵
Love this! Vlogs will be great! Nooo judgement! Lil tiny luxuries in life 🫶🏾 bring it all. I’ve been a SAHM for 17 years, and afford luxuries by planning out all purchases & vacations. Loyal Subbie.
Thank you so much. I really appreciate that 🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍
Have you considered luxury vinyl plank for flooring? I went this route instead of carpet and am so happy.
The lighter color really brightens up the entire downstairs
@@nirui467 I have considered it. I pinned a comment that goes into detail why I’m leaning towards carpet.
