Men died a lot in human history so the ability to bond with a new partner quickly is an evolved survival instinct.

I love this story. I just wished there was a more in depth epilogue. A longer conversation between Amy and ex husband. And an even longer conversation between Amy and her sister. So the new wife can explain herself to her sister. Also a more in-depth report on Amy’s next steps.
New wife doesn't have anything she needs to EXPLAIN to her sister. Amy is an adult who made her choices. Barbara is also an adult who made her own choices. John doesn't need to take the ex wife into consideration when it comes to his life and choices. She left and her regrets are her responsibility not anyone else's.
Being in my mid 30s, that age gap would bother me. I could never date someone that young. Plus it doesn't help the way kids are today either. Yes I know it's a fiction story, but that age gap, being 30 something and knowing her at like 16ish, she is half his age.
