Hey. I really like Roll Player. I just wish the game was a little shorter. I think it runs a little long for what it is. knocks it down for me a little.
I was thinking the exact same thing, kinda surprising.

Personally my all time favourite "Dice Placement" game let alone ALL TIME FAVOURITE game in general is COIMBRA. Other top favourites in this mechanic include......KINGSBURG(#2), VIENNA, Claim It!, Bora Bora, Roll Player, LAS VEGAS and Dizzle(Highly underrated tbh). Some other favourites include Dice City, Castles of Burgundy(Mentioned), Sagrada(Mentioned), Grand Austria Hotel, The Voyages of Marco Polo(Mentioned), and Teotihuacan: City of Gods.
One of my favourite games with dice is Roll for the Galaxy. I just love building an empire among the stars.
Roll Camera is a really innovative co-op dice placement game too!
I want to try it out, remember Rhado raving about it, but hard to find….
This list seems to be driven by the „Cult of the new“ and when you add a classic like Castles of Burgundy, you admit yourself that it isn’t dice placement mechanism. So games missed were: Roll Player, Coimbra, Kingsburg, Bora Bora.

Roll Player is the obvious omission, but it released around the same time as Sagrada so they get compared a lot. Great list! You guys picked a nice variety.
Yeah, Roll Player is my favorite. I still have love for Alien Frontiers too.

Troyes and Panamax should be in this list.
My favourite dice placement games are Kingsburg, Rajas of the Ganges, Roll for the galaxy, and Alien Frontiers.
I was jokingly going to say "Why isn't Wayfarers of the South Tigris on the list?!" since I'm a fan of the series, but you actually put it on the list!

Love that Sagrada was so high on the list. Love the game/expansion and the app is beautiful. Also, honorable mention for me would be Lords of Vegas.
Bitoku is really beautiful and indeed a ton of things to do.
Dice placement games are fun! I'm looking forward to getting Dice Theme Park soon!
Kingsburg is my favorite dice placement game.
Was going to comment on how half the games are “cult of the new”, but somebody already did. And Sagrada as #1 is funny, there’s no way it’s better than most other games on this list. Admittedly not a fair comparison, since it’s a simple abstract, while the other ones are for the most part crunchy euros. But I guess you can argue that it’s #1 because it’s the “dice placiest”, where that is literally all you do, lol. But as other people brought up, so is Roll Player, but you are actually building up to something.
For those looking for some other great dice placement style games, here are what would be on my top 10ish list (in no particular order, except for COB, which is my #1 game): Castles of burgundy, Bora Bora, Troyes, Voyages of Marco Polo, Lorenzo, Grand Austria Hotel, Coimbra, Tekhenu, Santa Maria, Pulsar, Circadians First Light, Rajas of the Ganges, Taverns of Tiefenthal.
How are Tekhenu and GAH dice placement? Its more like dice drafting. This dice placing mechanic is ill defined.
@@shortydancer Granted. It IS indeed kind of a fuzzy definition (they mention that at the start of the video too), and I think dice drafting and dice placement are pretty much interchangeable. I see it as you are drafting the dice, yes, but then you place them down to take certain actions. In Tekhenu more so than in GAH (especially when you have to balance them on the scales, which is a pretty clever concept).
Kingsburg is the best dice placement game, imo. Although I prefer the look of the original FFG/Stratelibri version. And their initial reprint that did away with the lightweight wooden dice was a big improvement.
Great list. Love Origins First Builders and Khora Rise of an Empire. Agree with the earlier comment that Roll Player was conspicuously absent. 😄

Of course when limited to ten, there will be some omissions. Other games I've enjoyed include: Alien Frontiers, Champions of Midgard, Discoveries, Euphoria, Kingsburg, Roll Player, Roll for the Galaxy, Skyline, Sushi Roll and Unearth. 🎲

Rajas is pure beauty. Please play it. I’m sure it would have made any dice placement list. Also, calling Troyes dice placement is iffy. If you do it needs to be at the top of the list. It’s a top ten game for gamers. If you don’t think of it as strictly dice placement, it needs to be an honorable mention.
Great list… you guys should try another Garphill Game called ‘Circadians: First Light”…another good one!
This is a solid list! of the ones that I have played, I love Castles of Burgundy and Khora and like Sagrada. Own Marco Polo but haven’t played it yet. Except for Under Falling Skies, I want to try the rest. Just not a solo gamer. Lorenzo Il Magnifico and Rajas of the Ganges are amazing too. Sorry they missed the list. But, this is a tight category.
You guys still owe me a game night. Maybe one of these.
I’m generally not a fan of dice placement, over the years I have bought and culled, bought and culled, two games that have stayed despite the way I feel are Sagrada and Under Falling Skies. It helps that my wife likes Sagrada, but I also like the simplicity and puzzly part of it, and that it is quick. I also have Under Falling Skies because, well if you’ve played it…you know. It’s awesome! Roll Player just didn’t do enough to keep my going back, despite really liking it to start with. I think I wanted more from the theme, even though the puzzle is cool.

Thanks for the list! These are 10 solid games, and you're never going to be able to fit everything in. But a few more I would suggest would be Dice Hospital, Euphoria, and Rajas of The Ganges. (I know ya'll love Rajas, so interested in that ommision in particular - maybe not enough economy, as it is just the one spot?)

The Rising games or Roll for Adventure prove that dice placement games can also be action oriented, and very epic.
Most of these games are worker placement games, a bit of variety would make the list more interesting.

Cavern Tavern..Great game
I felt the same way about Castles of Burgundy. I played it for the first time on Tuesday, and I get why it gets the love it does.
No Coimbra....Space Base......Troyes?
Good choices except Space Base (like Machi Koro) isn‘t real dice placement. The dice rolling results in random production.
I have a feeling the Murph Bros haven't played Coimbra tbh. Otherwise it'd be on this list as either #1 or #2.
This list lacks some very strong games that are not as new as the ones you are promoting here: Coimbra, Teotihuacan, Grand Austria Hôtel, Taverns of Tiefenthal, Roll Player. And if we are going to the new ones, Perseverance is pretty solid.
