    My Pi was running OMV5 so I thought it was time for an update and since there is no direct path to upgrade to OMV6 I thought I would give CasaOS a try. It installed fine and after some learning on how to mount external USB drives I have it all working (inc PiHole, Plex and SyncThing). Shame there is no quick way to update dockers and back the whole system up. I think these are things that need adding pretty urgent. Thanks to the developers !

      Doesn't seem that there is much available for something that should be simple. Shame as I really like CasaOS.

      I would probably not recommend a Pi for that. I would look at a small form factor PC or even a used workstation that you can pick up for very little cash as it will be a better use of your time and money

    • @DBTechYT
      @DBTechYT  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It really depends on your comfort level. I like them both for very different reasons. CasaOS is great for getting into self-hosting and simple setups. OMV is more advanced and currently has more features/options, so I would encourage you to test them both out and find what works best for your needs. I've changed my setup multiple times as my needs have changed.

    Tried to install using that one liner command on my machine which is already running Proxmox Server. But it looks the eth0 interface is already taken, is there a way we can run Casos on some different network interface or it can use the same interface which proxmox uses?

    • @DBTechYT
      @DBTechYT  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would recommend running this in a Proxmox VM or CT if you already have Proxmox running. Trying to run this alongside Proxmox is going to be a real pain and not practical.

    • @uttarbajarange
      @uttarbajarange 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DBTechYT Thank you very much for your quick turnover. Somehow it detected the interface and now its working fine. Have imported all my apps from Portainer to CasOS and so far both CasOS and Proxmox are working independently. Especially, because am with raspberry Pi4 so don't want to give much load of VM on Proxmox Server so running it alongside. Will check it if it is ok or will do as you recommended. Thanks again for all your videos. They help me learn a lot.

    Do you have any idea if it is possible to link another server like that in Portainer? Nice video as usual.

    • @DBTechYT
      @DBTechYT  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So CasaOS is meant to be a hybrid of sorts between OMV and Portainer based on my experience with it. You could probably install Portainer in this and deploy containers that way, but I'm not sure that containers deployed that way would show up in the dashboard

    • @bestofweb1011
      @bestofweb1011 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DBTechYT My question is that if you can link another CasaOS server to the main one, so you can show and edit your containers in one place. Like in Portainer, you can do it with the help of Portainer Agent.

    • @DBTechYT

    Has anybody successfully been able to get the CasaOS Pi-Hole install configured so it automatically provides network wide adblock protection to any device that connects to its network? I spent two days trying to get my CasaOS Pi-Hole install to take over DHCP duty from my router with no success. Each attempt resulted in losing internet access which then required I factory reset my router numerous times. Eventually, I gave up and decided to install the standalone version of Pi-Hole running on a separate Raspberry Pi 4B computer. It seems CasaOS Pi-Hole is incapable of providing network wide ad blocking protection that involves making changes to your router. Only the standalone version of Pi-Hole can successfully take over DHCP duties from a router. I hope somebody proves me wrong because I really want to run both Nextcloud and Pi-Hole on the same Raspberry Pi 4B and not two separate Raspberry Pi computers.

    • @markloughtonUK
      @markloughtonUK 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's working fine for me although I do DHCP on the router. Did you put the IP address of your pi into your routers DNS record ?

    CasaOS is developed by a company in the PRC. I love the concept and the UI. BUT the fact that the software is written by a Chinese company is super sus.

    • @DBTechYT
      @DBTechYT  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Your RunCam HD2 is also made in China. I'm sure most of the software and firmware on it are written by people there. As is your television, your phone, etc. Probably several of the parts of the planes you fly are as well. What's your point?

    • @km4lkx497
      @km4lkx497 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@DBTechYT The code for my TVs are written in Korea, same for my phone. I no longer use runcams and haven't for years. The point is, you are using an entire home cloud OS that is written by a company that is under the control of the PRC and distributed openly and freely. Is there malicious code included now? Probably not. Will there be in the future? That is the question. There was a remote execution vulnerability in CasaOS versions

      This is also a point for me to not use Casa OS. And for all you China defenders I can ask a simple question: where are cell phones that are made in EU or USA? Where is Nokia, Motorola? Where are Apple factories in USA. Oh yes, they are gone! With all patents and technologies, that are now in China. And it's our responsibility. Me included. Because I also bought a Huawei phone once, instead of supporting western companies. Because it's cheaper I thought. With software it works too. You got free software, they got technologies, experience, potential backdoor. And in a few decades, they rule industry.
