Why can't we have posters and commercials and interviews with wonderful women like this, celebrating their incredible daily work, showers of love they bestow on their family, and their immense strength and energy which is only topped by their wide range of knowledge and on the dime intelligence.
I wish this woman was a role model to more young girls.

It seems interesting. My first hunch would be to use a little soap and water to wash the inside of the coffee grinder. Does that not work?

I blend raw garlic with a bit of salt to help dehydrate it as salt takes out the moisture. Of course such blended garlic (idk if you can do it in coffee grinder as it's wet, I use blender) clumps when dried and then I grind it again, sometimes with more salt (but not all salt I wanna use) and mix. Works for me perfectly, I made different salts that way - garlic salt, chives / scallion salt, onion salt, lemon salt, chili salt and also few types of sugar like rose petal sugar (from rosa rugosa petals), turns out very aromatic and colourful. I forgot on the back of pantry one small jar of chives salt and after few years it wasn't green anymore, but still tasted chives-y.

I don't eat grains at all, so I use baking soda to clean the grinder. Sometimes I add some coarse salt if it needs extra scouring. My husband is VERY picky about his coffee. So far, no complaints.

Your method sounds even better than the rice method I know about. Some use the cheapest rice for cleaning their coffee grinder and sprinkle that over their vegetable garden to compost.

Thanks for all you share !!
I watched another lady show how to open garlic that seemed much easier.
I'm not sure if you tried this but here goes,
First pick up the whole garlic, put pointy side down and push on the flat side with your palm, on a table, to break apart all the cloves.
Place in large bowl and pour boiling water over them and leave for a minute or so, then drain water and the peels come off easier. It does not cook the cloves !!
You should not have to smash your cloves with a knife at the beginning.
I wanted to share with you what I seen someone else do and it seem to work much easier and faster.
This lady said she's tried all the other ways of opening garlic too.
I hope "maybe" if you have not tried this, it might be a little easier for you with all that you have going on and do.

Yummy idea! I just took all the labels off my Republic of Tea canisters and am ready to create my own teas from the garden. That way I know no herbicides or pesticides we're used, and I can save the $10/canister except the special ones I can't grow the ingredients for. I planted over 30 🧄 in the raised bed, so I look forward to making both dried garlic and garlic salt too! It was a great choice since a high percent of garlic is imported from China and polluted with unchecked toxins. If you grow it, you know it's good!

If you make celery salt from scratch its delightful as well and your lemon pepper. But the celery salt is fire. I bought some from big lots and liked it so I made my own. I don't know the celery ratio to salt but one thing I do know. Nothing is better than fresh.

I would try a batch using fine grind pink himalayan salt as it has a 'saltier' taste than even sea salt or kosher - you could probably use the same amount but I personally would use 1/3 less at first as of course you can always 'adjust to taste' - love the easy instructions!

    • @Dave_en
      @Dave_en 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Himalayan salt comes from Lahore, Pakistan. It's so much appreciated in Ayurveda. We have substituted it for table salt. It controls high BP, so recommended for elderly people. It has 95-97 kinds of rare mineral salts along with good amount of iron. The price is double or triple of ordinary sea salt but we need half or less the required quantity. So pricewise and quality wise Himalayan salt wins the contest.

For peeling garlic I've found the pinch & twist method works best. Simply grab each clove by both ends, pinch with your fingers as you twist back & forth and the skins come right off. There's no sticky, juicy mess, you just end up with perfectly peeled cloves.

I, too have an excess of garlic and never having tried to store it for a longer term, I'm experimenting with different ways to store it. I hadn't considered making garlic powder and garlic salt so I think I'll give it a try based on your method.
Every year I make paprika and chili powder in the same way you make your garlic powder. I've found that I tend to get more clumping than I'd like, even though I've thoroughly dehydrated the peppers. To solve the clumping, I simply re-dehydrate the powder. A word of caution: don't open your dehydrator door unless you've turned the dehydrator off.
And thanks for your helpful post. Cheers.

Wow! I just came upon your video by accident, but what a happy accident it is. I have found many recipes on the internet that call for garlic salt. However, believe it or not, I live in Israel and have not been able to find garlic salt. Also, just before Passover, real, fresh, juicy Israeli Garlic (long stems and all) floods the markets (especially the open air market in the middle of Jerusalem, so that the whole of the market smells like garlic) and I LOVE the smell of garlic. Also, since Passover is only 2 months I look forward to trying your method, but with my oven .

I plan to make this, fantastic instructions, i do have to comment on the fear-mongering about "questionable ingredients " in the store bought. It has some of the simplest ingredients as well. The only vague one is a natural flavor. Sea Salt, Garlic, Salt, Modified Corn Starch, Sugar, Parsley, Natural Flavor and Extractives of Carrot (for Color). Yes your recipe is better, fresh is going to be better, but especially in the case of this product and its very clear and short ingredients list it may not be necessary to harp on how foriegn the ingredients are.
