    when you think of bisley, quality usually comes to mind, not in this case tho :( the original eley wasp was a good hard hitting pellet I use to use them exclusively in my old mk 1 hw80 for rabbit shooting.

    Thanks for an interesting video, I first started shooting Wasp .22 pellets in 1957, when the wasp on the tin lid was yellow.Our pellet of choice though was always BSA pylarm which were super accurate as were the ICI wasp but an ideal fit in the Airsporter barrel.
    I started shooting again about ten years ago, and have tried all the mentioned pellets and have always found the Bisley wasp to have very few misshapen examples In a tin and I've also found them to be super accurate.
    Luckily, I still have about 6000 left so should last me.
    Lastly, if you would be kind enough to give your commentary in our customary Imperial measure , nobody will get annoyed 😉

    Interesting thanks. I’ve got 10 tins of the old Eley pellets.
    I like the way you keep pointing at things with your big knife.

    Great Video. I have half a tin of the original B6 7BA 0.22 Ely Wasps still one of the best pellets made. I have checked the weight, they come in at 14.6 grains. The pellets work great in my HW80. I also have a tin of the Bisley Wasps and would agree that the are pretty poor.

    Robert Powell.
    I used Wasp Pellets in my BSA .22 meteor as far back as 1960. Red tins for .177 & blue tins for .22. Still have the Meteor by the way which has never been taken apart.

    Very interesting and informative. I have a 500 tin of Eley Wasp. Which I bought some years ago. Having seen this video, I am now a bit loath to use them, as they are supposedly now unavailable. I will probably use these pellets on the odd occasion, for comparison reasons.

    I like the old Eley Wasps too... fortunately, I managed to stash away a couple of dozen tins when they were discontinued.
    I haven't tried the newer ones, but I suppose I should... not easy to find decent pellets locally anymore.
    There use to be a local airgun shop near where I worked, and they always had a great selection of pellets... always bought several tins or boxes each time I visited.
    I'm in the USA, so airgun shops are quite rare these days.

      What about wesbites like Pyramyd Air? That site always looks good for getting pellets.

    • @airmojo
      @airmojo 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I have recently bought some from them, as well as Straightshooters... building up a shopping list of my favorites !
      I think I may have to try the new Wasps just to compare!
      Love airgunning !

    The original Eley pellets are one the only domed design I've found that are short enough to feed reliably in my old Crosman 600.

    ICI was a major explosives maker but the also made more mundane things like paint, acrylics, fertilizer (although as the blast a year or so ago in Beirut tells us there's a thin line twixt fertilizer and explosives!).They where big on acid making such stuff as sulphuric, hydrochloric and nitric acids.

    Very good video showing how standards have plummeted under the Bisley brand. This should be wildly broadcast and the manufacture's should be thoroughly ashamed at degrading the well respected name of Eley

    Horses for courses... i shoot a Sandwell Field sports imp and the 5.56 fit's superb in the barrel, hitting a 1 inch group @56 yds , not all the time i must admit , but for 8 quid for 500 and the fact they compliment the rifle, i have no complaints... superb pellet for me.

    those Eleys look remarkably like H&N Field Target Trophy, I shoot them in my Falcon FN19 Raptor which prefers them to most other premium pellet, you can get a sample of H&N pellets form ebay for a few pounds

    Good for firing at tin cans! As long as they are 5Litre only 10 metres away! Still got my (late) dads' BSA meteor, and some old Wasps. Still shoots pretty good. Put new wasps in, and it was an insult to the old rifle! AirArms Diablo Field. Work well in the old BSA, and in my AA S510 & HW100T.

    Another great fact bundle. There are a few cheap plinking pellets on the market, Wasp aren't a favourite of mine, although having said that one of my air rifles (Stoeger X20) gets reasonable grouping with the .177 I think either you were unlucky or I've been lucky because the Wasp pellets I've got 4.5mm, 5.5mm & 5.6mm have very few incomplete or misshaped in each tin.

    • @AirArmoury
      @AirArmoury  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Steve. I don't really use Wasps in anything other than my Super Meteor, which seems to like them. The old Eley ones were pretty good though.

    • @stevewebb1289
      @stevewebb1289 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Air Armoury some of my rifles can be fickle in pellet choice so I tend to stick to the pellets that get the best results in each gun. After I watched your video on Wasp, I found another video posted by a guy a couple of years ago. The pellets he had were around 70% useless, from what I could see they wouldn't be any use for anything other than a catapult! According to his report, Wasp pellets were made in China? Yet again the name/brand temps us to buy things & we don't get what we think we were purchasing. For me the whole subject of pellets is doing the research on, what works in each gun & where to buy them at the right price!

    from people at my air gun club they are saying the marksman 5.6mm pellet is very good ,and are available from John Nibbs , they are more expensive than wasp though ,from the marksman pellets i have seen they are better quality than the bisley pellets.

    Such a shame ..the original wasp was the only thing I would shoot with..my HW80 loved them
    Used the new wasp in my HW100 and I would rather throw a handful at the target than feed any more down my barrel....I melted them down for fishing weights ...seem ok for that !!!
    Good video .. thanks for the memory's

    why did Eley stopt with the airgun pellets ,?they are still in business with ammo. i liked the ely wasp pellets
    ,they even shot accurate in a full power diana 52 although thy got the shape of een slug by the pressure,
    that bisley bullets are good in the melting pot to use them for casting bullets and use them in a ruger bisley,
    i have still a full box no2 with the print Eley, Birmingham B67UT England . paper sticker on the thin lid. sealed with a celllotape 20 boxes .bought that way in the UK somewhere in the eighties.only one left
    ;and later i got Milbro rhino pellets. .25 looks similair shot also wel in a tuned full power hw 80 .6,35

    Here in Australia we used to get Wasp pellets that were actually made here - they were packed in a red carboard box for .177 and a black box for .22. The quality wasn't great - when the REAL Eley made Wasp pellets arrived they made the local product look pretty bad.... A shame the UK made ones aren't what they used to be.

    • @AirArmoury

    • @richardwales5561
      @richardwales5561 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Air Armoury any suggestions where I can get sight mounts for the meteor? they want more online than I paid for the rifle. also have a hatsan 60s an few pistols. saving up for a Hw97k in 1.77.

    • @AirArmoury
      @AirArmoury  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Meteor has a standard 11mm dovetail scope rail so you can use any mounts that fit that type (check the spec) but this is by far the most common type and you can get a pair of mounts online or from any airgun shop for as little as £5.

    • @richardwales5561
      @richardwales5561 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Air Armoury, hi bud. the rail on the top of barrel is definitely wider than 11mm on my mk1, tried sights off another rifle an they far too small. found pair of mounts online for about 30, but that's more than I paid for the gun in first place!..

    • @AirArmoury
      @AirArmoury  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      After you said standard mounts wouldn't fit I did a little bit of research on it. It looks like the Mk1 Meteors had a 15mm scope rail instead of 11mm. Lots of forums suggested using Tikka / Brno 15mm mounts. I quick Google search found sites selling them for around £20.

    my LP25 and ASI paratrooper used to love Marksman pellets. These are available again but are they the same ?

    • @AirArmoury
      @AirArmoury  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure if they are still the same, or whether they are a modern updated version, but from my understanding they were never that great, so I guess they can't be any worse now?

    when i first started shooting at 10 i was giving a hw35 and a 200 milbro Caledonian pellets old milbro, and they were good then you could not get milbro pellets so i got eley wasps, and they were great in my hw35 and then got more hw rifles and they all liked eley wasp pellets, then you could not get them so i used rws superdomes pellets, now my newer hw35e, 99s,and the rm8 all like the older elay wasps and the older milbro Caledonian pellets the wasps were a great pellet my 77, 97,80, and 80fac, 96, loved them and they hit hard but the new wasps and new milbro pellets are rubbish.

    those " Bisley's " look AWEFULL .. and the grouping matches the looks .. which is strange ( quality wise ) as the Bisley magnums ( .177 ) I use all the while in my R10 are " spot on " well lubed in tin ( no need for washing in my opinion ) and never found any " runts " ( for want of a better word / description ) in any tin ive bought .. CHALK & CHEESE I'd say .. mind you , the price difference soeaks volume s

    • @AirArmoury
      @AirArmoury  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Mark Homer Yeah they are pretty awful. I'd never use them when I need any kind of accuracy, but they're cheap which makes them good plinking pellets. As you say, the price difference speaks volumes. With air gun pellets you definitely get what you pay for.

      They really are, just a shame they ruin the name of the old Eley ones which were pretty good.

  • @mercury8117
    @mercury8117 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    The original wasp was a very reliable pellet you could trust. Never had any problems useing them in my mercury mk2 and airsporter mk6 and my mercury s mk1 and my airsporter s mk1. There was no need to use anything else. I still have the above rifles and have tried the new fake wasp and they are hopeless. A disgrace to the wasp logo. RWS superdomes easily outperform them in those guns.
