Recently did this myself aswell, I got my kaowool off amazon, it was just the first one to pop up when I looked it up. I used the mr volcano rigidizer on it, but its really not necassary all the rigidizer does is well rigidize the wool so it holds its shape better and make it so it wont erode as fast. But really the cement does the same thing so long as you maintain it so there isnt too many cracks or bits missing. I would of used the Mr Volcano brand wool, but it wasnt in stock at the time so I just got whatever the first result on amazon was that was 1inch thick and wide enough. Had enough excess left over to do it again.
I used Vitcas ceramic blanket for my furnace and rigidiser but no satanite, I will use Vitcas and satanite on the forge when I redo it because I can get a much better thicker coating and I don't need to worry about the weight ...my furnace gets moved around alot but my forge doesnt.
you don't want to do anything that will blow ceramic fibres around you or your clothes or shop....that stuff lingers gets into everything and messes up your llife if you don't respect it. imagine getting it in your hair then on your pillow then your nose eyes and respiratory tract..thats why you dont use a shop vac....also most shop vacs arent fine enough to pick up the thinnest fibres
..maintenance is key. take care of your tools and they will take care of you...
very nice, I was just wondering why you set the burner the way you did when I saw the hot pocket it makes next to the fire brick, very nice job dude
You didn’t use a rigidizer on the wool? Where did you get the wool and refractory cement?
