Its so nice to see Winston finally know and be able to explain the nuances of extreme vocals. I remember when he had no idea what he was doing for so long and came really close to blowing out his voice.

I'd listen to this man talking about vocals for an hour, if not more.
I understand this kind of music isn’t for everyone but you do have understand that it goes deeper than just ‘screaming’ this is some really impressive stuff !
As someone who has been learning how to do this style of vocals, it's not as easy as it seems. If you don't do it properly it can really hurt you badly
I think anyone who thinks screaming is "just screaming" has never actually tried to make an attractive scream for longer than 5 seconds hahaha let alone an hour

So he learned how by doing Cookie Monster impressions, and I learned how by listening to Winston and replicating it somehow, someway. I can sound, what I think, just like him when I sing without having to warm up. I just listen to a song I know some or all of the lyrics to and sing if I’m comfortable. Only problem I have is that my lower jaw gets sore near the end of just one song. If that’s not cause by just not warming up, I have no idea what it is

We were just talking after Good Things on Friday, and we wondered if metal singers do vocal warm ups and look after their pipes like a lot of pop singers do! Turns out at least 1 does!
Oh plenty of metal vocalists do that. That's why they're so good at what they do.

Scott Kennedy from Bleed From Within has the same growl. If non metal listeners keep thinking this is "just screaming" they're so wrong. It's not easy it takes years and years of practice, if you don't do it properly it hurts really bad

He certainly does do more warm ups which I’m sure reduces the harm.
It’s still harming his vocal chords though.
No he's not. There's a technique to it. It involves false cords. I can literally sound like a godamn creature from your nightmares with minimal effort and zero pain or discomfort. I think it actually feels good.

I love metal and have a good half dozen friends who have forked voice boxes and sound like Lockyer.
I’m happy to be educated if they’ve ‘just done it wrong’ though (which I would certainly accept as they were old school metal heads and might not know your new ‘false cord’ technique).

He's a good vocalist but as an hardcore fan not that much of a death metal one, it emphasis a bit too much on his voice to me

Ha ha! ... music is has been on it's arse since the mid 1980s, it picked up for awhile in the 1990's , but it's over now - this stuff is the emperor's new clothes
I'm pretty sure Bleed from within vocalist got his inspiration from Winston.. they sound similar
