    Having your bike worked on by a dealer is by far the most expensive. A stator for your bike is less than $85.00. A good mechanic could replace it in less than an hour. You could have had your bike fixed for about 200 bucks. Your devotion to that dealership is costing you a premium.

      Wow, that's the cheapest stator I've every heard of.

  • @Doubler00745
    @Doubler00745 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    A stator is actually pretty easy to put in. It's just a matter of unscrewing the casing and replacing the stator and thats really it. Probably harder to change your oil even. A $700 dollar price tag for that job seems a bit unjust on the dealership's part

    • @joemann7971
      @joemann7971 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      But is it just the stator or did it also need a new regulator? Even for both, it still seems like a lot of money.
      I personally think if you own a motorcycle, its almost critical that you learn how to fix it. Almost any savings on the motorcycle goes out the window if you need to pay a dealership to fix anything.

    How many miles till it needed a new stator? I've owned 30 year old bikes with 50k+ miles that never needed one lol. These new bikes, they make them to "powersports" spec not actual every day road use spec. Used to be you'd buy a 100cc or 175 and it was as well made as any other bike, now they skimp on quality on smaller bikes.

    I'm curious, is the Ninja 300 paid off? Or are you still making payments? You are at 3 years on this bike?? Did you NOT buy an extended warranty?? Spending $700 does suck when the bike is well worn.

    Saving money for the emergency repair fund is great to see the numbers go up. Not so good to have to use the funds for their purpose, but that is their purpose.
    .
    I do not know if the 300 has the same setup as the older 500's, but those would lose magnets on the flywheel which cut charging power. Darn flywheels are an easy $400 alone.

    Credit cards offer rental insurance as well. MasterCard has very good coverage including the lost rental time while the vehicle is being repaired (yes, it is a thing). I recommend reading legal info about what rental company insurance covers and what it does not cover (eg. the above mentioned fees or overhead damage).
    Bottom line, CC rental insurance may end up having better coverage than what you can purchase from the rental company.

      No, I don't think checking the stater is part of the routine maintenance schedule and no, they won't start working on it till they get the parts in. But it is all good. Should have the bike back by tomorrow night, so it's all good.

    I always try to keep some money tucked away for crap like that. The a/c is out on the van my wife drives and there is something wrong with my bike that I can't get fix until I can reliably reproduce the problem. The weird thing with the problem is it only happens on one particular exit after six miles on the freeway. The problem doesn't happen anywhere else.

    • @ThisLifeRiding

      I wish there was a moto-guild in my area. They teach people how to work on their own motorcycles. They have classes and a shop for people to use. It is a great idea. If I were able to take their classes I could probably at least diagnose it myself if not fix the problem. It doesn't really help that I can't pinpoint the sound with my helmet on either.

      bombebomb Can I give my two cents? I bought a 07 Yamaha R6 and accutally ended up selling it and buying a ninja 300 instead. I only ride for fun, but I found that anything more than a 300 is stuiped unless you speed. I personally don't want to get a ticket, and the price difference between maitnace is insane!!! The r6 has to be fully maitnace twice as often, and costs 100 more per maitnace interval (that is even with doing a valve check on the ninja every time). the ninja gets double the gas mileage, and my tires last twice as long on the ninja due to less weight and lower torque figures. let's face it, 600/650cc bikes are awesome fun, but not very practical and will only get you in trouble as you poor money down the drain just to keep it running. right now I am for squished on my ninja, but just for 260 bucks I am getting clip on and rear set brakets to make more room. Even if I had the choice between my bike or a 2017 cbr600rr, I would keep my bike. the ninja is simply easier to handle and costs less, not to mention that it has all the power I LEGALLY need...

    • @isaacairmet9603
      @isaacairmet9603 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      King Hrothgar Well I don't know what paradise you are living in, but all the shops around here charge 400 for a standard maitnace check on my r6, but only 180 for my ninja 300. and my ninja gets 65 mpg :). As for insurance I won't lie, I am still on my parents plan as I'm in highschool, but 200 a year for full coverage is hard to pass up xD.

    • @ThisLifeRiding
      @ThisLifeRiding  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks man. For now I'm just going to stick with the 300.

    • @isaacairmet9603
      @isaacairmet9603 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      King Hrothgar They both had valve clearance checks. The r6 is just a bigger engine xD. For me, I just don't see the point in something above a 300. A r6 going 45mph and a ninja 300 going 45mph both do what you want them to do. sure the r6 can do it at lower rpms and accelerate like a rocket, but I mean come on, is that nessesary??? Where I live it only takes one deer crossing the road as I blast around a corner and I'm dead. For legal purposes and my own well being, a 300 is all I need. Plus the r6 costs more in other ways. Tires, fuel, maitnace, insurance..... I am freaking 15 years old! xD. Heck I still can't believe I have owned an r6 as my first bike and now have a ninja 300!

    • @isaacairmet9603
      @isaacairmet9603 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      King Hrothgar Lol I totally understand your points. I agree that the maitnace stuff seems weird, but I just wanted to point out that the r6 has major maitance every 4k miles, while the ninja 300 is double that. I also wanted to say that I don't ride on the interstate, so I guess I never have experienced having to push a little 300 up to 8-9k rpms in 6th gear... Also I road a gsxr750 and a fz8 over 80mph in a 45mph zone while testing them, and I did put 500 miles on my r6. to be honest I never felt scared on them. (the gsxr kinda felt scary for me simply because it was to physically massive for me to stear well xD). I don't see the big "your Gona die on a 600/liter bike!!! " idea. The 750 is almost a liter bike in terms of power and I was expecting more power than there was. I have never even ridden a dirt bike before!! Perhaps I'm just crazy xD. I just found that temptation was to great. At 45mph a 600 feels like it wants to go faster, but a ninja 300 feels right at home crusing at that speed.... I think I will need a liter bike as an adult simply to feel the thrill xD. Perhaps a zx14r.... lol. Safe ridding man!

    move up! I loved my ninja 300 but I just moved on to an fz-09. obviously you have to be a little more cautious with the increase in power but it's still surprisingly nimble like the ninja and I think in slow speeds it actually FEELS lighter. I think it's because of the more upright seating and wider bars. also a bonus because it's not "not a sport bike" (oh foolish insurance company) despite the massive leap in power the insurance only went up a hundred bucks for the year vs a super sport which would have been at least 500 more.
