    Thank you for this video. We are in the biggest snow storm to hit Texas and our fireplace looks exactly like yours. It was the only one on TH-cam I could find! Our power could be out for days so this video helped our family!!

    Hope you read this because (1) This is super helpful! Clearly explained each step and reasons. PLUS: (2) I actually need to buy a NEW diffuser because the one in the house I bought is cracked. So far I can’t find a place that sells the diffuser pipe. (I moved to Texas during the pandemic - and survived the snowstorm!). Thanks for any help anyone can offer.

    thanks for your video. I was getting ready to buy a replacement on Amazon when I saw this video, I wouldn't have thought to do this on my own. I started seeing flames at the base of the air-gas mixing chamber. Removing the diffuser was a piece of cake, it unscrewed by hand with one twist of the channel-lock on the chamber. Removing it showed most of the holes were plugged up. The wire brushing did nothing. I took a drill bit just a little smaller than the holes and cleaned them out. I blew some compressed air into each hole and dust blew out of the other holes. I also looked at the hole in the air-gas mixing chamber where the gas goes into the tube. It was also blocked, so I cleaned that out too. Reinstalled and I had a flame just like when it was new. I adjusted the air / fuel mix plate and got a nice blue flame. This saved me $30 and better yet, it looks like I'll get a few more years out of my old starter. I also put the far end of the pipe on a rock to keep it elevated.

    One thing I notice the flame is yellow, you have to check the gas-air mix, easy thig to fix open and close the air regulator to find the blue flame, the blue flame is better and does not make a lot smoke, a video about that will be great, thank for your video.

    Any ideas about a gas fireplace that has a fully properly functioning pilot light and ignition, but the fake logs wont light? I had a serviceman come out and he said the valves must have been corroded or "frozen". I feel like I should be able to just clean out the pipes or whatever is clogged under the fake logs. Yay or nay? Not sure I want to spend $1,000 for a repair or 6k replacement. Id rather get a gas stove for 6k. Turn my fireplace into a fishtank. The pilot light is lit and when I flip the switch on the wall nothing happens.

    I had a problem where the last 7 holes were blocked. Great tips to get them unblocked but i did it by skipping to the last step. I used a vacuum to clean it out. I figured if that didn't work I'd go back to step one but I didn't have to.

    There is a small housing towards the head of the pipe (the bulky side that was attached to the wall pipe). That housing has a small cover plate with a screw that keeps it in place. Remove the screw and the cover plate, and it will be easy to get all the ash out of the pipe. Don’t forget to cover the hole with the plate after you get all the ash out.

    Log lighters are no design to use full time in your fireplace, are only for use to start the fireplace with wood and after that must to be turn off (you can die if flame is off), you can ask your fireplace technician about to install a fireplace gas burner with all the security measures possible, by the way if you leave the home or are sleeping is better to turn off all gas heaters.

    Hey I just moved into a house with a chimney that is exactly like the one on this video . But I am not sure on what I can burn here does it have to be masonry fire logs or can I burn real wood logs and just use the gas to start the fire then turn it off once its lit ? If so is that safe to burn real wood in this ? Thanx

    You should have used a smaller diameter pipe inserted into the diffuser to clean the inside of your diffuser pipe and then a compressor to blow the debris out and check airflow ( i.e. gas flow ) from each of the diffuser holes.

      The diffuser has a vent plate at the base (the fat part) which should be opened part way to let air in. The flame should be burning blue which is hotter than your solid yellow flame. You have your thumb on the vent plate at minute 3:26.

    • @ChimneyCricket
      @ChimneyCricket 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's an air shutter to regulate the primary air. It mixes air with the fuel prior to ignition so the flame burns cleaner. This one is improperly adjusted as evidenced by the completely yellow flame. Open it up a bit. The holes must point downwards so they don't clog- see the mfrs. instructions. The penetration for the gas line must be packed with rockwool and sealed with furnace cement.

    When it comes to a gas fireplace; What does it mean when the flame is blue 🔷 instead of gold 🔶?

    • @rayc1503
      @rayc1503 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      A sharp blue flame is good. A orange floppy flame is not so good. Some decorative fuel effect fireplaces are designed to burn an orange flame. If you're unsure read the manufactures instructions. They're readily available online. 🤗

    • @nandosmith9927
      @nandosmith9927 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yellow flame means poor gas-air mix, there is a plate with screws that usually can be open and close to find the right mix, a yellow flame waste gas and makes more smoke.

    Do you need rocks to light the fireplace

    • @jasonchipkin
      @jasonchipkin 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No. Typically, you could use either specific fire rocks, manufactured fire logs that don't burn, or natural wood logs. Just make sure your fireplace is rated (?) for the type of material you put in it. I also use the lighter to light paper or kindling, then shut off the gas after a few minutes.
