    Forgive me as I'm still learning this whole entire process, but my girlfriend is a Chinese citizen who is going to school in the US and we've recently been seriously discussing the possibility of her getting her green card through marriage. Im 23 and she's 26 and I'm still a bit intimidated to get married at my current age ( I feel not quite ready yet). She has a student visa for 3 more years with her doctorate program and it seems that marriage is the only reliable way that she can get US citizenship (going the job route seems very unpredictable). Of course, I would be beyond happy to get married to her, but I just need a bit more time. However, I also don't want to wait too long, because I know that the sooner she becomes a citizen, the sooner she will be able to find a good job and also have to worry less about her future. I don't want to rush into something like getting married, but I also know that its good to plan out something like this way ahead of time, as I would be devastated if she had to go back to China for some time due to her not getting her citizenship soon enough. Let's say we plan on getting married in a year from now (2024). Do you think that would leave enough time for her to get her green card before she is forced to go back to China in 2026 after he student visa expires?

    Hello, I was wondering how long you and your partner were together before getting married? I was reading that it is a red flag if you haven’t been with your significant other for a long time? Was the interview process difficult? Any information would be sooo helpful!! Thank you

      So we met in 2017 but didn't start dating until January 2019, and got married in July 2019. We were nervous to talk about how quickly we got married but when the officer asked us how long we had been together we just said "we met in 2017" :). And yes, we're still happily married now.

      @@ma.noelajessettearcega837 I have the perfect thing to help you! I used what’s called Simple Citizen. Since lawyers cost so much I wanted to find a different way and they have lawyers there to review your green card and also they have a support team that can help you every step of the way. They also have a different format for the questions so it’s a lot easier to understand (instead of the tiny text).
      After you finish and get reviews and you’re all good to go, they mail you the form so all you have to do is attach the checks and send it to USCIS. And it’s only $500 vs the thousands that lawyers usually cost 🙌

    I am a U.S citizen. How much money do I need to have in my bank to sponsor a foreign wife? How much money do I need to make in order to sponsor a foreign wife? How many years back do they look at my income? Do they look at my credit score?
    I am currently a PhD student and am not working. Can I sponsor a foreign wife and not work? It'd be extremely difficult for me to go to school and work at the same time. It'll take me a few more years to graduate. We've been in a long-distance relationship for almost 5 years now. I haven't been back to her country for over 2 years because of COVID-19. I’m not a lawyer so take this with a grain of salt. I would look into the K visa (fiancé visa). I’ve heard of that one from 90 day fiancé 😂 and in the video I said that I came to the US as a student years prior to meeting my husband and was in grad school when we got married

    • @JMiddelkoop81
      @JMiddelkoop81 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ChristinasSideHustles Yeah, we have looked into both fiance and spousal, and unfortunately the fiance visa means he can't work for almost a year and we are reliant on his salary, so getting married there makes the processing time quicker (oddly) because he can continue to work there while waiting for the Visa. There is so much info online thrown around with different wait times etc, it's really just a cluster. And I find it almost impossible to contact ANYONE with answers via USCIS. Thanks for your reply though.

    • @dammymurphy3964

      No you can't use your Canadian birth certificate. You either have to get a birth certificate of your country of birth or am affidavit to that effect. That backs up your claim.

    hi Christina!
    your video is super informative thanks! Couple of quick questions
    1. Did you have to change the name on your original passport to your spouse's name prior to applying for green card? (Does it help with the process?)
    2. Did you guys get your green card during year 1 and had to reapply for it after year 2 onwards of marriage? or were you guys married already for 2 years?
    Long story short, my wife and I are wanting to migrate back to the US as we're both abroad, but I'm trying to see which step is the best way forward- Wait until 2 year mark and apply, apply for CR1 Visa then reapply for green card after 2 years, etc.

      Hi RJ!
      1. No I didn’t. You’re not required to do so. In fact, I still have my maiden name.
      2. I got my conditional card during year 1 which just expired. I just applied to remove conditions after 2 years.
