This is one of the greatest acts in Cirque! I love the colors of the costumes, the choice of music, and the elegance of the performers! Cirque du Soleil is the best performance industy in the world!
What great upper body strength to pull up a rope like that. Saw this show in Barcelona last week and was definitely highlight of my holiday. i am now a cirque du soliel fan.
There are some days where I watch this and I think, "Wow, so beautiful and amazing." and I am just at a loss for words, completely solemn and serious, just taking in the beauty and magic of it all. And then there are other days, like today, where I watch this and I think, "Spider-man has officially been outclassed."
Technically (if anyone is interested) only the parts where they use the loops, beginning at 3:50 and at 5:35, are spanish web. The rest is corde lisse. Of course, that doesn't for a moment how beautiful, graceful, or utterly awe-inspiring the whole thing is.
0:57 I would replay this part of the music so many times when I was a kid. It is such a magical melody. I still sing it in the shower along with the beginning of Dralion, you know what part...
omg I do aerial silk ballet and I know how much it hurts to do those drops and stuff but WOW, with those ropes it must hurt like 100 times more O.O God, I love Cirque du Soleil, when you think you've seen it all, they show up and surprise you with new and more amazing/beautiful stunts...
all thoses guys are ecuadorians there father three soon and sister Family Nava They do really nice show cogratulations guys I have to go to radio City Music Hall to see this show again
quais circo de monte carlo ou hugo cardinal etc, quais que... melhores artistas do mundo estão aqui no cirque du soleil, o resto sim é 2categoria sem lhes tirar o merito.... pura magia e alegria
@tylerduboys Cirque never officially released this song and we don't know its real name, so us fans just call it "Spanish Webs", same as the act. However, they did release Misère and Enfants d'Acier on the extended soundtrack. The music in Quidam has changed so much over the years that some songs that used to be in the show have been taken out, new ones have been added, and others were remixed or completely rewritten.
@Luckyyable There are a bunch of characters that are running around during the various acts. The guy in the bridcage it The Target. The woman who is holding the cage over him is the mother of Zoe. She is a little girl who is getting shown all these acts by the Target and John who is the guy riding the tricycle at the beginning. The birdcage has a few appearances throughout the show. We saw this earlier this year and yeah we though it was kind of random...but it does have meaning in the end.
I need to learn spanish web, silks and corde lisse. I feel like these are the 3 that would really develop the strength and endurance for aerials...so far just working on static trapeze and lyra. People who are in my classes who do silks have so much more upper body strength!
4:02 That would scare the living crap out of me. I guess that "go and join the circus" isn't an insult anymore, eh? I'd love to have some of this talent.
Is that final sudden drop performed by Jonathan Morin? he is a handsome guy. he was only 21 then.(born 1977) I can't find many information about him on the internet. Spanish webs is amazing! I love Quidam!
Could someone tell me if Alexandre (Sasha) Fedortchev is in the particular video, because he did the Spanish Web from 95 to 99. I met him this evening. I LOVE this act. Quidam is great!
they have bungees or something similar at the top of the ropes so they don't snap at the bottom of the drop. my teacher said she would teach me on our spanish web but we don't have a bungee so i can't :(
@fwinvisible pretty positive it's a woman....just very muscular.... this act is typically done with three women and two men....the one in the middle is the one who did the back planche with the guy on the hammock/loop...very intensely difficult trick.... :)
Does anyone know the name of the upside-down decent they do at the very beginning, about 00:25 seconds in? I want to ask my aerials teacher to show me how to do it. It looks so beautiful and graceful. I tried to do it myself, without instruction, and I got major rope burn on the top of the wrapped foot. I'm used to bruises and rope burns, but this one was pretty bad. Did I do it wrong perhaps?
try corde lisse, or look for classes in circus aerials. Many beginner classes will cover not just web, but static trapeze and tissu (or 'silks') as well.
Is Spanish Web known by any other name? Because I'd really love to learn it but whenever I look it up, I just get websites for learning to speak Spanish. Not quite what I'm looking for. :-D
I don't think you did it wrong. It's just a simple crochet. The difference is that their legs and feet are well protected, which you can see clearly at 0:45 when they go in close on a guy sticking is leg straight to the side.
coool... I myself am trying to be a CONTORTIONIST by myself I have no trainer and I'm only 13 AND I'm a boy tooo most contortionists in Cirque are female =]
Omg I do silks, sling and some spanish web and this is amazing. In my auditions I usually put in a swan dive (2:03) but HOLY SHIT they are so high up! And their unitards look uber thin instead of all the thick leggings I wear. O.o
you know what I think of when I see this other than amazing... The rope burns and their PE grades... These people would climb up that rope so quick the teacher wouldn't know what hit them
0:59 Ever since I was a kid I found this part stunning. I dreamed of becoming a composer or singer for Cirque.
This is one of the greatest acts in Cirque! I love the colors of the costumes, the choice of music, and the elegance of the performers! Cirque du Soleil is the best performance industy in the world!

This is also one of my favorites! I like the music as well.

Correct, the true Spanish web act comes later as a solo.
0:57 I would replay this part of the music so many times when I was a kid. It is such a magical melody. I still sing it in the shower along with the beginning of Dralion, you know what part...
Love The Music ^_^
it's amazing how gracefull and strong this artist are.
I love watching Cirque du Soleil! So awe inspiring... Then they flash to a stagehand and it's like "Why is there a man trapped in a bird cage?"
El número sensacional, así como la música, genial.
I just saw this today and it was AWESOME!

all thoses guys are ecuadorians there father three soon and sister Family Nava They do really nice show cogratulations guys I have to go to radio City Music Hall to see this show again
I've just seem Totem in Toronto, it was absolutely fantastic.
@MrMrMrprofessor
According to the Cirque Tribune website, this song is simply known as "Spanish Webs" and I don't think it is commercially available.
Talk about workin' for a livin'!!! Very rigorous!!!! Very enjoyable!!!!
so hauntingly and amazingly beautiful.
so breathtaking..
quais circo de monte carlo ou hugo cardinal etc, quais que... melhores artistas do mundo estão aqui no cirque du soleil, o resto sim é 2categoria sem lhes tirar o merito.... pura magia e alegria
Awesome! Thanks so much!
Its so fantastic!
spanish web and hoop are my two favorites
@cheesiemonkey2 Yes, that's called a costume. Cirque is known for making some of the most incredible costumes in the industry.
@tylerduboys

Excellent
Ameiiii....
They are so incredibly strong!
Is that final sudden drop performed by Jonathan Morin? he is a handsome guy.
he was only 21 then.(born 1977)
I can't find many information about him on the internet.
Spanish webs is amazing!
I love Quidam!
They are all so remarkably strong! What I woudn't give to be that strong....and flexiable!!!!
en su presentación en México, en la Gran Carpa Santa Fé, tuvieron mucho éxito, estuvo genial, es mucho mejor ver el espectáculo en vivo...
yes that is a very difficult and dangerous trick.
one of my circus instructors broke his leg in 4 places attempting that
Could someone tell me if Alexandre (Sasha) Fedortchev is in the particular video, because he did the Spanish Web from 95 to 99. I met him this evening.
I LOVE this act. Quidam is great!
pronto ire a bs as a ver es te show que lindo
I NEED THIS SONG.
It's not available on the soundtrack. The only way is to rip this youtube audio
It's either Jonathan or Jason Papp, I can't honestly tell from that distance. I think you're right though.
the offical dvd listed this act as spanish web :-)
el mejor circo de todos los tiempos !!!!!!!!
they have bungees or something similar at the top of the ropes so they don't snap at the bottom of the drop. my teacher said she would teach me on our spanish web but we don't have a bungee so i can't :(
genial
these people might just NEVER fall off buildings. they literally defy gravity!
yeah you`re right, she's zoe's mother and someone else is playing the mother.
@fwinvisible pretty positive it's a woman....just very muscular.... this act is typically done with three women and two men....the one in the middle is the one who did the back planche with the guy on the hammock/loop...very intensely difficult trick.... :)
Does anyone know who the woman in the foreground at 0:52 is? She's also the one with the 'duet' with the guy where she hangs by his neck.
It is also known as Corde Lisse, you're both right.
exelente.. nada mah ke decir

Its smooth aka rope?
whats that got to do with anything?
I do Spanish web in my high school cirque program and want to know how he spins by his foot. It looks like an ordinary hand loop but it isn't?
I meant to say, "isn't Zoe's mother one of the acrobats?" And yes, I did notice that somebody else was dressed like her at 2:41.
& this act especially
try corde lisse, or look for classes in circus aerials. Many beginner classes will cover not just web, but static trapeze and tissu (or 'silks') as well.
they make it look so easy i tried to do this at gymnastics and i failed miserably and painfully
Aerial rope is fine, you just need to do the drops a few times to get used to it. And Spanish Web really only bruises the parts you use to hold on.
4:11
and that is where I would start spewing
didnt think it was still called hallam arena, id like to be able to do that:)
A tribute to Calimero ;)
But srsly, love it!
Is Spanish Web known by any other name? Because I'd really love to learn it but whenever I look it up, I just get websites for learning to speak Spanish. Not quite what I'm looking for. :-D
ar 3:00 the only thing stopping her from falling is his fingers at times like this u are praying that he doesn't get sweaty hands
I don't think you did it wrong. It's just a simple crochet. The difference is that their legs and feet are well protected, which you can see clearly at 0:45 when they go in close on a guy sticking is leg straight to the side.
@alladinmoua Aw man. Well, thank you!
4.57 to 5.06 is big mamma its so fun
coool...
I myself am trying to be a CONTORTIONIST
by myself
I have no trainer and I'm only 13
AND I'm a boy tooo
most contortionists in Cirque are female
=]
Isn't the lady who plays Zoe's mother in this act? I thought I saw her at 0:30 and 0:38.
Is it just me or do you hear cues in the form of a whistle at 5:39, 5:45:, 5:54, and 6:02... this when they chnage positions and stuff?
sorry the name of this soong is...?
Anyone know what the name of the song is or the name of this Cirque Du Soleil show so maybe I could find it that way?
Corde Lisse. There's no official recordings so the easiest is to rip the youtube audio
i think a 'clone' does the mother in this act. Like the four additional zoeys before the diabolos act.
what's the name of this music??? I can't find it on the cds that I got! =( thanks!
It's not available on the soundtrack. The only way is to rip this youtube audio. It's called Corde Lisse
what song is this?? i can't find it on the soundtrack
It's called Corde Lisse. It isn't on the soundtrack, only on unreleased soundboards or the dvd audio

It was done in 1999
Omg I do silks, sling and some spanish web and this is amazing. In my auditions I usually put in a swan dive (2:03) but HOLY SHIT they are so high up! And their unitards look uber thin instead of all the thick leggings I wear. O.o
Holy upper body strength.
you know what I think of when I see this other than amazing... The rope burns and their PE grades... These people would climb up that rope so quick the teacher wouldn't know what hit them
What is the name of the song?
It isn't on the album..
