    I have a snow white socolofi that's been in my tank for over a year. I haven't vented it but I call it a he. When you describe your girl it sounds like you're describing mine. I affectionaly call him "jerk face." LOL Love that fish to pieces, grumpy and all. You have a beautiful tank. Great job!

    My apologies, he was SUCH a beauty!! Silly, fish! We had an Oscar do that to us when I was a kid. Actually, our German Shepherd dog brought it in and put it on my sisters pillow! Yikes! She was only 4 y/o or so, that was quite the face to wake up to! lol They ended up putting the O2 tubing in his mouth and he lived. Unfortunately, a few weeks later, pulled the same stunt (even with a heavy knife polishing stone weighting the lid down) and didn't make it that time. I didn't realize the rest of the "family" of fish were also jumpers. I'll have to come up with something to take care of that and I'll definitely have the hubs put the back shields on now. Well, I'll keep watching your channel, maybe one of these days you will expand the business. Anyway, I still love seeing the progress!! Take good care.

      I have never kept male Kenyi, only this one lone female, she has been a great tank mate, not very aggressive and she can hold her own against the other Mbuna. I would say the females are less aggressive, but this would be the case with any Mbuna in general.

    I have a 50 gallon. What 4-5 species would you recommend for stocking? Alos where did you get your lava rocks? Thanks!

    • @robOzwrld
      @robOzwrld  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hmm...Where to start, I could talk awhile about this lol! I assume it's a 4 foot tank? Let's keep things simple by recommending Mbuna that have lots of color and are easily found throughout the hobby. My first 2 choices would be Yellow Labs and Yellow Tail Acei, you get the stunning electric yellow from the Labs and the complimentary purple of the Acei. Both of these Mbuna are mild mannered and should get along well with each other as well as any others you add to the tank.
      My 3rd fish would be something with blue coloring and some stripes...your choice here, White Top Hara Galeria Reef, Cynotilapia Afra Jalo Reef, Powder Blue Socolofi will look nice and all should mix well with the Labs and Acei. There are many other colorful striped blue Mbuna, shop around and pick something you like, stay with a species that dosent get too big or dominant.
      I only chose 3 species for your tank, trying to keep it simple and on the peaceful side to start. It's important to get a good sized group of each species, have lots of females in there to keep the males busy and colored up.
      If you wanted a fourth maybe consider Red Zebra for a splash of orange!
      I would stay away from Demasoni, Maison Reef Zebra, and anything Melonochromis like Auratus. All can get a little feisty and might become a problem as they mature.
      I hope this was helpful, would love to get an update on the tank sometime! Good luck! :)

  • @bonniekane7172

    I enjoyed watching your video. I have become a cichlid nerd... trying to learn as much as I can about them, especially Mbuna Cichlids. It sounds like you are well educated with identifying them. I started my 55 gallon tank with an all male set up and it was pretty much a blood bath:( I am down to three different species. I want to be sure I have them identified correctly before I add any more fish. The three are coexisting pretty well and have been together for almost a year now. The tank looks empty though and I would like to try to introduce more fish, but I'm afraid the three I have will not welcome any more fish unless they are females of their specie. Only problem is I'm not 100% positive what I have. Would you be willing to look at them if I email you a few pictures of them? Or would you know someone that may be willing to help me out with identifying them? I'm pretty sure I have a Jalo Reef, demasoni, and a yellow lab. Weird combo with the demasoni and the Jalo, I know, but the Jalo Reef is the boss of the tank, so I guess the demasoni leaves him alone. I hear horror stories about demasoni. Let me know and thanks. Your tank is one of the best I have seen and I have been researching cichlids nonstop for a week now! Love it:)

    How do you gravel vacuum your sand where the rocks are?

    • @robOzwrld
      @robOzwrld  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I spot clean the areas that I can get to with my weekly maintenance. About every 5 or 6 weeks I take all the rock out and do a thorough clean. Quite a bit of the debris is pushed around by the Filters and the fish constantly moving the sand. You may get a small amount trapped by the rock but it has never been an issue for me. Hope this helps, thanks for watching!
