14:30 Garp has very little love for the world nobles though so the 'D' might not be against the world government but against the world nobles specifically. After all the secret of Ohara is related to the world nobles. When Luffy punched Saint Charlos Garp is swelling with pride and gives Luffy the thumbs up. Sengoku says that this is very serious but Garp says they had it coming for so long. When Stelly tries to act the world noble Garp is basically like "get lost you brat before I bash your head in".
You'll have to look further into this, but when that was said, the " gods " was referred to those sitting at the top of the world government who basically act as gods. Dr. Clover stated that before the World Government was formed, the world was ruled by a Great Kingdom. But they were wiped out by a group that would one day become the World Government. Its a fan theory, but its said that those that ruled the great kingdom before the world government and their descendants have the initials of D. in their name.
You know the funny thing is my middle name is literally the letter D. My parents actually meant it to mean something else but they did not spell it out on my birth certificate. Which left me with a D as my middle name. Maybe people in the one piece universe are really lazy haha.
It's a symbol for the sun on the horizon. Ambiguously Dusk and Dawn, marking the end or beginning of an era of dark or light. People who carry the name D, are destined to chase or be chased by the horizon, always living on the edge of chaos, bringing change with them for better or worse.
"The Will of D" I'm just playing words with my mind but it seems *deity* the 1st word in my mind is - "Devil" when I watched the first arcs but then again it changed to - "Devotion" when it brought up on Corazon, Law and Sengoku and specially to Rouge but it changed again to *DEITY* when I look it up the meaning, it brought up- Gods sometimes defy their own kin- more or like the Ancient Weapons and the Clan of D (Raftel's people)
Will of D "Will of Defiance"? Luffy defied Garp and became a pirate then defied the world government to save robin. Ace Defied his Parentage. Teach Defied Whitebeard. Law defied his own sickness and was able to live thanks to corrazon. Just a thought
Shawn Baker Saul defied the government when he saw what they did. Garp... uh.... well... he uh.... he defies orders sometimes I guess.... he’s kinda like Smoker both of them uphold justice their way the same way most D’s act but that’s not a real... defiance I guess. And he himself says what Rouge did, defied the world to have her child.
Toma Ryth I feel sorry for garp, all he wanted was a member of his family to join the Marines, and then his son becomes the worlds most wanted man, and his grandson becomes an infamous pirate who is now an enemy of the world government
If D stand for Defiance then we can explain Garp as a marine: Most D are anarchist. So the parents/caretakers of Garp were surely Defiant to the World Gouvernment and Garp just got against their ideologie. A mirror image of the reaction of Luffy and Ace to Garp's pro Marine stance.
Agreed! My theory is that the "Will of D" is the "Will of Defiance" and its the very thing that the Celestial Dragons solely despise because when you think about it the Celestial dragons think themselves as gods and anything they says goes with no question, so when anyone show a sign of defiance towards the Celestial dragons they are considered enemies of the gods so it could be possible that the "Will of D" are those who defies the Gods power and control over the world and with the "Will of D" they may be the only people that could have the power to free the world of the corruption of the gods. Just a theory but yeah i agree with you. ^^
My bet is it stands for dreams. Dreams not only represents freedom, which is what Luffy is all about, but it's what the show is all about in general. It would also explain the reason why Luffy chose his crew, because they all had dreams that they were dead set on accomplishing. & Like in the original intro for One Piece, it would explain why Gol D. Roger gave his last speech, to spread the Will of Dreams and inspire people to set out and pursue "dreams greater than they've ever dared to imagine". & Dreams also have no right and wrong. Black Beard would also be pursuing his dreams, despite whomever deems them to be right or wrong. It's about freedom, which is exactly what the World Government opposes. They oppose freedom, like the freedom of knowledge and wisdom over the information contained in the poneglyphs. Or even how the Celestials have actual slaves with no freedom. Another way you could look at it is a real life example from Martin Luther King's speech, "I have a dream". Which in summary is a dream of freedom. & Even though he died before he could see his dreams become reality, over generations, people who were inspired by him and his words and his dreams have fought for their dreams and their freedom. And Luffy is the character most dead set on accomplishing his dreams. Even though every member of his crew was at one time or another at a point where they were giving up on their dreams, or about to abandon them, think of Nami with Arlong or Robin with C9 when they were outright rejecting his help, he inspired them to not give up on their dreams and their freedom. His will to carry out his dreams no matter the obstacle is so strong that he doesn't even fear death as long as he knows he died pursuing his dreams, and that dedication, that will, is so strong that it inspires others, the people around him, to do the same. You could even go so far as to say that it's so strong that it even inspires the audience to do the same.
Garp was actually offered higher spots in the Marines as a whole but turned it down since the celestial dragons would have more direct control over him
If you think about it garp and roger might be the strongest combo in OP universe. They were not only againts rock but also his whole crew (young kaido, big mom, newgate, shiki) and come out on top, kill rock and disband his whole pirate empire. And im really curious about the celestial dragon they helped. I mean garp hate celestial dragon that's why he refuse to become admiral but for him to personally came to help along with roger it raise a big question mark.
The D is the symbol of a half moon. Oda has a lot of panels diplaying the moon in his manga and the moon will most probably play an important role in the story later on. Otherwise Enels coverstory wouldnt have been told.
I think Oda chose the letter D to represent such an important subject in One Piece because his middle letter in his name is D, like the middle D in every “Will Of D” members. O D. A
I think it was joybky that did a video on it, and ended with "Dawn" Because the first chapter was titled "Romance Dawn" "Dawn" meaning the dawn of a new era after the world government falls.
I think it's funny how the WG hid Rogers real name to mask the initial "D." While every wanted poster of Luffy has his full name with him just grinning like a loveable idiot.
One theory I've heard is that the D stands for "Devil" and has a connection to the Devil Fruit, since at least half of the D's do have Devil Fruit abilities (Luffy, Ace, Blackbeard, Law), because they've been described as the "Enemies of God", and the Devil is usually in opposition to God, so the theory of the D standing for "Devil" is a strong one. If this theory is true, it could be the reason why Blackbeard has two Devil Fruit abilities.
Yea or I think even more acceptable it stands for demon. Like these are a different race of humans. OP shows so many different humanoids so hard to imagine a half demon/human?
I find it hard to believe that someone who didn't have a devil fruit ability was stronger than Whitebeard, you know, the one with the power that can DESTROY THE WORLD. But then again Shanks and Kaidou are both Yonko and don't have devil fruit abilities so.. nvm lol. Destroyed my own argument I guess.
Actually The Real Mystery Is... The Name Monkey, Cuz Like Monkey D. Garp, Monkey D. Dragon, Monkey D. Luffy like Why Do They Have Monkey In Their Name? Decendants Of Boots?
I believe the will of D is the will of "Dawn" Due to the sheer ampunt of references to the Dawn of the new world being something luffy is gonna bring stated by many characters, and on an arv to arc basis the word Dawn is often used to refer to destroying the dark history of the place they're saving. There for the will of Dawn would be the will to bring that Dawn to the world at large and remove the darkness in the whole world's past, probably a will passed on to right the wrongs of the void century after realizing they couldnt do it theirselves
Here's my theory. One I got from a certain Comment in a certain video. To live is to act. To act is to impose your will on the world and cause change. We call a joke "dead" when it no longer leaves that impact on us anymore. A person is the same way. When they are forgotten, then their will no longer exists. But, as long as they are remembered and people remember the lessons they were taught by that person, then their will will continue to act on the world and cause change. The Straw Hat that Luffy wears is a fantastic example of this idea. Gold Roger once wore that hat. But, upon his death, he gave it to Shanks. With it, he passed on his will and responsibility as a pirate fighting for freedom. Through Shanks, Roger's lessons still change the world. And, Shanks has passed on that hate to Luffy. That act has motivated him to be a pirate like Shanks. Luffy has no idea where the hat came from. He knows next to nothing about Roger. But, he is still doing the things that Roger would want him to do because Shanks passed his will (and by extension Roger's will) on to Luffy. Roger isn't dead. He's living on in Luffy and Shanks and the entire era which he has created. And the government realize this. That is why they planned on cutting off the live feed of Ace's execution. They didn't just want to kill Ace the man. They wanted to kill Ace the ideal. This is why the government is the villain of this show. It's not because they kill pirates or suppress freedom. Their justice is (in most cases) a righteous one. But, they seek to destroy history. They made it illegal to read the ponegylphs. They erased an entire century from history books. They are hiding something. Why? To kill a generation. Without that knowledge, the people in that generation are forgotten. As long as they are forgotten, they are dead. It's more than just a desire to hide a few facts. They want the people of that time to be dead. And, considering that Gold Roger read the poneglyphs, it's likely that he has done more to ruin their plans than we know. The entirety of the Skypiea arc is this idea in miniature and demonstrates how significant it can be. The natives of the island wanted desperately to ring that bell. They barely even knew why. They just knew that someone once promised a man he would. It seemed like a stupid thing. Both the man who made the promise and the one he made the promise to are dead. So, why bother? Because wills are not so easily lost. Hundreds of years later, and his descendants were still being affected by the lack of the bell ringing. The two sides, completely unaware of each other, were still carrying out the wills of their descendants. And, thanks to that fact, centuries of inner conflict in descendants were finally resolved. It seems like an amazing coincidence or even a miracle. But, there was nothing miraculous about it. In their darkest moments, when all seemed lost, the line "Do you believe in God? Do you think he would help us?" And the response? You don't need his help. Mankind will carry it out. It was no miracle (or God's help) that these events coincided. It was the natural result of wills being passed on. Zoro and Smoker also asked if God and miracles existed when Luffy was saved by a lightning bolt in Roguetown. But, that too was no miracle. It was an act carried out by Dragon. This is the WIll of D. A series of seeming coincidences that date back hundreds of years from a will no one even knows the source of anymore. Yet, inevitably, everyone with a D in their name ends up becoming an important figure in the world. It's not a coincidence. It's a natural result of a will being passed on. Who is this D that lived centuries ago? We don't know. But, he still isn't dead.
The old guy at Ohara said that there was a island at void century but that island has been destroyed at void century.I think world goverment destroyed that island. Then they deleted the history. The people who lived at that island put a D in their names so their generations could bring world goverment down and make everyone equal. The war the WG and the D created the red line which puts the world in half .The D will put every island together (One Piece) and that makes all oceans together(All blue)
Sheen Zhang lol isnt this the wrong comment section you should be looking this up in Btw Oda says that Roger n Whitebeard were pretty much equal in their prime..

"D" might mean DEFIANCE. Maybe they who have the "Will of D" will defy the Gods. (Celestials). "D" might also means "Devil". The one who directly defy the rules of GOD.
Three theories: 1. "Determinist" - the only thing that's really common to all "D." holders is that they're shown in the series as the most determinists characters, each in its own way. Whether it's Luffy (obviously, his determinism is probably the core of the story), Ace going up straight from founding a pirate crew to taking on an Emperor, Roger) well, pirate King duh), Garp hunting down Roger for so long, Law hunting down Doflamingo, Ace's mother keeping him for so long, and so on. 2. "Dreamer" - probably one of the most important, most underrated scenes in the series is where Teach talks to Luffy about people having big dreams against people who simply don't (in the Crocodile arc). This is definitely something that at least most of the characters have in common. 3. "Devil" - the common theory, probably the most reasonable one.
I've always had this theory in my mind....that it all connects to the Great Kingdom that was destroyed by the alliance that would later on become the World Government. That the most important event in One Piece we don't know about is that war, that destruction and the reasons behind it. I've had the idea that the Great Kingdom was bearer of some very scary power and some dangerous "truth" that scared the rest of the World....I have the idea that said Kingdom wasn't evil, or willing to take over the whole world, but that it most definetely had both the power and maybe the "right" to, but just chose not to. That the people of that Kingdom were in someway "special" and that SCARED the rest of the World to death, so their leaders act with the idea of preventing an eventual takeover, while some of them really only wanted to take that power for themselves, and in order to do so they did something so atrocious and unspeakable that is just plain WRONG and not defendable, and that's why they had to hide it from history. And I have the idea that ONE of the "powers" of that Kingdom was the knowledge to create the Devil's Fruits. And thinking about that, that might be what the D stood for all along. The "natural enemy of God" is the Devil. Those people might have been considered "the devil", by those that ended up considering themselves the "Gods" of the World, and their creations were named after them "Devil's Fruits". Maybe that is who the weilders of the Will Of D are, the last remaining descendents of that Kingdom. Maybe the first of them, being called "Devil" by the World Government started to put the D. in their name to scare the World Government. It's a statement that they're still alive, that they survive through the centuries, even those who don't really know who they truly are.
You completely skimmed over ALL of Pedros recent chapter hints! Flashbacks with little Pedro and Roger, Pedro creates the Night Pirates (looking/waiting for the Dawn!) Not to mention Dark King Releigh, why is he the Dark King? Because hes holding the Pirate King title since Roger died, hes the King of the night until the One Piece is found and the Dawn comes. Not to mention the Govt reason for changinging Rogers pirate name from Gol Dawn Roger to Gold Roger could be to remove the idea for normal citizens to find hope in this name of Dawn. Ive tried spreading this around for MONTHS, joyboytheory knows, he likes to create vids and not give any credit whatsoever.... lol!
Josh Buckley thats another way of looking at it too, we honestly dont know. Its just the name we were given so far, but it makes sense to me. He was Rogers 1st mate and probably the #1PowerHouse of the series now that Roger is dead and is just laying low cuz he can. He can maybe even kill Kaido? Who knows.
Maybe Garp knows what the will of D is and that the descendants that have that initial are bound by a certain fate (to oppose the world government) but instead of following that destiny he wants to go against it and work with the world government, so in a sense, Garp is the most free.
For me, i think the will of d, stands for will of devotion. Rouge devote her life for ace Ace sacrifice his life for luffy Luffy devote his life or saving his life for his nakama Saul save robin from the marines Haha please dont hate me 😁
I have had this feeling for years - that Garp is going to die and he is going to die protecting Luffy. Like you said, it seems like Garp is the odd one out when it comes to those bearing the 'D' name. I have a feeling Oda is going to make it very clear which side of the equation Garp is really on before his end - mainly, I think he will protect Luffy from the World Government and die in the process. I think Ace's death has shown that while Garp values his position so much that he couldn't just let Ace escape the law, he also loves his family more than anything and was even willing to not only be easily 'defeated' by Luffy but also was this close to get revenge for Ace. Like you said - that isn't going against the Government per se, but it does show that there is one thing that would make Garp possibly go that route: if the Government was close to killing Luffy, for example. Or, for that matter, maybe even his son Dragon. We have zero clue what their relationship is but he didn't seem to resent his son from the times we've seen him talk about him. In my opinion, Oda is still waiting to show us Garp's true colors - he's been called Hero a lot and recent chapters have hinted at Garp being a really really huge deal, so a flashback is clearly going to happen. Garp will make a move against the World Government, even if it is a passive one.
What if the "D" family was one of the original families to create the world government? But when they realized their mistake, they split from the government and decided do a coup! But they failed, so they gave their descendents the letter "D" to fight the government and remember who they are. Because D means Dragon, as in the Celestial Dragons!!
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing, we've seen many times the World Government take credit for shit they didn't do so maybe they weren't even the ones who created it, it's a false government. The D's created the government but during the void century they were overthrown. The celestial gods are just the families that overthrew them, Vivi's family felt bad for what they did so they went back to Alabast because they didn't want to be a part of the false government
Lance Derick Jumalon honestly you might be right. Or the X of the pirate flags like the skulls. People who dead 💀 X. Or nvm it might stand for dream like people saying or D for Dis nut’s
I always thought the D stood for Devil or Demon as they are the enemy of god or that they could just have a really good utilization with their devil fruits making them a threat to the status quo
My own opinion of the Will of D Ancient Kingdom was a prosperous land etc 20 kingdoms got jealous waged war against the A.K AK was dominant during the war Joyboy was leading the way for the ak, they were going to win the war! Until.. JOYBOY was betrayed.. by one of his nakama's my guess joy boy had 12 (D)isciples (nakamas) And the Disciple that betrayed him was an ancestor of Blackbeard that betrayed him and made AK lose the War
1. Monkey D. Luffy. 2. Gol D. Roger † 3. Portgas D. Ace † 4. Marshall D. Teach. 5. Jaguar D. Saul † 6. Monkey D. Garp. 7. Monkey D. Dragon. 8. rafalgar D. Water Law 9. Portgas D. Rouge 10. Portgas D. Shanks 11. Con D. Oriano
Tekking101 you forgot to mention even though Garp was the oddball he ultimately caused a BIG issue with the world government. He had many chances to stop Luffy, he kept Ace a secret and listened to Roger’s last will. The Great War was pretty much his fault. Ace and Luffy caused so much that if Garp followed his true Marine orders that would’ve never happened.
To elaborate further on the idea of Blackbeard being an ancestor to one of the outliers of the will of D that had a violent mentality, I believe that maybe Rocks was an ancestor to the same outlier and blackbeard may be related to Rocks and that is why he is opposing the government in this way.
Maybe D stands for Devil. Devil is the enemy of God. If that is the case, maybe they have a connection with the devil fruits. Also this kinda feel similar to assassins creed. The people who hold the will of D are the assassins and the world government are the templars. Also, Koby might hold the will of D. He did get personal training from Garp and respect from Shanks.
Gol tells white beard, white beard tells black beard, black beard is then influenced negatively. Garp is odd but he is anti oppressive, he is genuinely a good guy, with no corruption. He is beating the world government from within by teaching
D stands for "Dork" and has been passed down by Joy Boy trolling everyone and this information is found on laughtale and that's what made the roger pirates laugh
My Theory: Those with the name D. descended from the inhabitants of Raftel. Raftel was the island that was destroyed by the creators of the World Government during the void century and since the World Government wishes to hide this fact, the Kozuki family inscribed the history onto Ponyglyphs among other inscriptions of things unrelated to the history, or location of Raftel since they knew that the World Government would manage to find some. The Kozuki family entrusted the Ponyglyphs to trustworthy Civilizations that were around at the time (Alabasta, Shandora, Fishman Island) to protect the information. It just so happened to be that powerful pirates managed to find/steal some of these Ponyglyphs (Big Mom, Kaido) in order to find Raftel and become the Pirate King. What they don't realize is that One Piece is not a treasure, or anything that will make them the Pirate King, but instead, is something that will reference the history or Raftel and the Void Century. The Will of D. is the will to live on as decendants of Raftel. For them to live is to fight back against the World Government and to bring them down. As Monkey D. Dragon says in Loguetown, "As long as people seek the answer to freedom, these will never cease to be! So why is Jaguar D. Saul a marine, and in a way, with the World Government? The majority of people including those with D. and of the Marines are unaware of the history, and Marines like Jaguar D. Saul believe they are fighting for what's right. However once the Strawhats reach Raftel and reveal the true color of the World Government, those with the name D. will rally and fight against the World Government in the FINAL WAR. One thing I am unsure of, and I'm sure this is the same for almost everyone, is Marshall D. Teach. Why is he an Antagonist? Well I believe he is one of those characters are are sort of "lost" due to emotional reasons (like Obito from Naruto or Tosen from Bleach). Maybe he is fueled by revenge or discontent with the world, but one this is for sure. He is an enemy of the World Government as well.
What whitwbeard said in his final moments I think the D clan has some kind of power like the ackerman clan from attack on titan to use the skills and powers of the previous members
The Three Wise Monkey ; Garp = see no evil monkey (covering his eyes, who sees no evil) Luffy = hear no evil monkey (covering his ears, who hears no evil) Dragon = speak no evil monkey (covering his mouth, who speaks no evil) Raftel = Secret of monkey island D = Code of silence
I feel like the D was the royal family who ruled during the void century that’s why the admirals don’t want to say what it means
Thats what i was just about to say the exact same thing.
What if devil fruits are made by killing a person from that royal family, that's why people killed of the d clan...
Maybe the d WAS once part of the 20 family's then they left seeing where it was going and the doghflamingo family took there place
It said they were the Eminies of the gods (celestial dragons) so I doubt it
I wonder who's luffys mom is
D stands for "Darth" and Luffy is descended from a line of sith lords.

Damn my guy this is beautiful

They were not only againts rock but also his whole crew (young kaido, big mom, newgate, shiki) and come out on top, kill rock and disband his whole pirate empire. And im really curious about the celestial dragon they helped.
O D. A
I think it was joybky that did a video on it, and ended with "Dawn"
Because the first chapter was titled "Romance Dawn"
"Dawn" meaning the dawn of a new era after the world government falls.
Plus with all that "dawn of the new world" stuff that Pedro/the minks kept talking about, it wouldn't be surprising.
But the most important man with D didnt have devil fruit abilities(I m talking about Gol D Roger)
RayVitoles We don't know if Roger had a Devil Fruit or not.

But, he still isn't dead.
actually makes sense
Analyn Rockbell your on to something
Shit man...thats I'll be honest that hit me lol

Personally, I think it either stands for Dream (because the manga put a lot of focus on characters's dream) or Devil (because of the Devil Fruits).

Three theories:

PLUS ULTRA Todofans
It's a statement that they're still alive, that they survive through the centuries, even those who don't really know who they truly are.
wow, thats deep as shit
I didn't read all of it tou did

THANK YOU
You completely skimmed over ALL of Pedros recent chapter hints! Ive tried spreading this around for MONTHS, joyboytheory knows, he likes to create vids and not give any credit whatsoever.... lol!
this is very good!
Who's holding the pirate king title ? Lol Are you high ?
Aaron Burton Isn’t he called the “Dark King” because he was always by Rogers side like the kings shadow.
Who knows.
I don't even think Rayleigh was the 2nd strongest in his prime and now you're suggesting he's currently the strongest character out of his prime?
Maybe Garp knows what the will of D is and that the descendants that have that initial are bound by a certain fate (to oppose the world government) but instead of following that destiny he wants to go against it and work with the world government, so in a sense, Garp is the most free.

Or maybe Garp will betray Luffy in the end. Remember what Doflamingo said? "Who will betray who?"
The D stands for Dragneel. Yes, The will of "D" are dragon slayers. Dragons as in celestial dragons. Mind = Blown

I like this theory
Tekking somehow knows the void century secrets already?
Matthew Warren no this was just all his thoughts/theories
What if the "D" family was one of the original families to create the world government? But when they realized their mistake, they split from the government and decided do a coup! But they failed, so they gave their descendents the letter "D" to fight the government and remember who they are. Because D means Dragon, as in the Celestial Dragons!!
So in a way, Luffy is a Prince. Plus, Gold D Roger WAS the King of the pirates! They are royalties!
That's something I've wondered as well

To elaborate further on the idea of Blackbeard being an ancestor to one of the outliers of the will of D that had a violent mentality, I believe that maybe Rocks was an ancestor to the same outlier and blackbeard may be related to Rocks and that is why he is opposing the government in this way.
Maybe D stands for Devil. Devil is the enemy of God. If that is the case, maybe they have a connection with the devil fruits. Also this kinda feel similar to assassins creed. The people who hold the will of D are the assassins and the world government are the templars.

My Theory:
Those with the name D. descended from the inhabitants of Raftel.
Mind blown
What whitwbeard said in his final moments I think the D clan has some kind of power like the ackerman clan from attack on titan to use the skills and powers of the previous members
Bishnu Sherchan whitewbeard??????????
