The lighting on this show is so strange, it's like they shoot it at 1-1.5 stops underexposed, and the lighting on Conan (and guests, when seated) is at the same level as the background, so the whole frame looks two-dimensional. It's bugged me for years, but I feel like it's getting worse. The Tig Notaro interview, all her close-ups have an apparent darkness to them.
If you watch clips of Conan's Tonight Show, it's gorgeously shot (they did a great job). It's spectacular compared to this. Really glad it's not just me, I thought I was losing it.

Man, that's so true. Never thought anyone would actually point that out. I always have to turn the brightness way up when I watch Conan clips.
