- The 2008 Movie Musical Mamma Mia will always be one of my favorite movies. It is such a joyful, pure ball of happiness and I love it so much. So today I decided to watch it again and do a commentary. Though, with most movie musicals, it largely consists of me singing along. Oh well!
Also, the cast in this is still **chef's kiss**. Amanda Seyfried, Julie Walters, Christine Baranski, Dominic Cooper, Collin Firth, Stellan Skarsgard, Pierce Brosnan, and MERYL STREEP!!! You literally can't go wrong with a cast like this.

Mamma mia is the actual definition of a comfort movie. A plot that isn't too complicated, no high stakes, no tense scenes or anything like that, just abba and good vibes. It's my go to movie after a rough day and I honestly do not understand why it gets so much shit.
Also just one of the most visually pleasing in terms of colouring and location 😊

My mum and I watch this film every year since it premiere in theaters and we still cry everytime slipping through my fingers ... she had to raise me alone after my dad died when I was six months old and Donna and Sophie’s relationship is basically ours 😭
That is so touching
this movie paired with its sequel is some sort of subtle commentary on motherhood and feminine friendships despite it being about the main character looking for her 3 fathers and it’s something me and my mother have absolutely adored bonding over at least once month practically religiously

About ten to twelve years ago, my mother was so obsessed with this movie that she made us(me and my two sisters) watch it once a week! Anyway, i loved the fact that they actually filmed it in Greece(since i'm Greek) and all the Abba songs. They were one of the first and most prominent bands in my childhood.
That was me but reversed; I “forced” my parents to watch it with me. Literally twice a week. I never got tired with it, and I still love this movie.

I love this movie. I don't care if it's a bad musical for some people. I still love to watch it. I can just enjoy it without thinking about it.
There was once an outdoor viewing of Mamma Mia in a cultural center near my house. It was a bring your own chair and drinks kinda vibe. As I was driving towards the parking lot, a huge biker gang was pulling up and around me. Huge men with huge beards on Harleys. I wondered what they were there for, when I guy asked an attendant, “which way for Mamma Mia?” They partied and danced all night with the rest of us happy forks. This movie isn’t “great” but it’s perfect for what it is.

Yes, Slipping through my fingers is my favourite song on this movie!!! The second one has to be Super Trooper, but is just more damn epic in the sequel. The third: Our last summer. The only thing I dislike about the movie is the scene with Does your mother know.
Why dont you like "does your mother know"? And I love slipping through my fingers and the Winner takes it all most. Guess Im just a sucker for the sad songs.

I'm a 30 y.o. male hardcore metalhead, so I'm absolutely not the target audience for this movie and I only watched it because I'm an Amanda Seyfried and Pierce Brosnan fan, and I enjoyed this movie a lot. I absolutelty didn't expect that. I was expecting it to be too "girly" or too corny, but after the first song started playing, I already was like "not a bad start" and when Seyfried sang "Honey honey", I was like "Shit yeah! I actually enjoy this!".
I didn't know I needed this, but this is exactly what I needed today. I was saying and singing it along with you, even though I haven't watched it in many years.
A few years ago I read 'Loaded' by Christos Tsiolkas. Recently I rewatched 'My Life in Ruins'. In both of them I learned that there's a Greek word that has no direct translation in English. The word is Kefi - which 'My life in ruins' describes as 'mojo' and as 'passion, joy, spirit' and 'Loaded defined as 'The urge to dance, to be with good friends, to open your arms to life'. That credits, the dancing queen scene and that scene when the waters of Aphrodite burst out all over them (and believe me if she's nice to you then that's a really good sign for your future by all accounts she's something fierce when she's angry), I felt that those scenes are perfect portrayals of people experiencing or finding Kefi.
Also, yes I agree on the best song being “Lay your love on me”!

Abba didn’t have to release the music for this movie. It’s based on the Broadway musical from the 80s that they adapted into a movie.
The preimiere for the musical was 1999, on the date 25 years after ABBA won Eurovision 1974 🤩

A friend and I saw this outside at a local park in the summer of 2019. It was the sing along version. There were so many people there! OMG, it was so fun! Everyone was singing and dancing and just having a great time together. It didn't matter what anyone else thought. We were all just there for it and it was beautiful..

I think what gets me to fall in love with the movie is seeing older women having fun and living life. So many movies always focused on teens/young adults living life and having fun, but rarely do you see that with the 40+ demographic even for a split second.
The only time we see 40+ characters around is when something tragic, bad, or intense is the main focus as if middle-aged and senior citizens don't have the right to have fun. So I appreciate this movie a lot for being on the positive side.
Dancing Queen and Lay All Your Love on Me are me two FAVORITE ABBA songs. I had both of them on my MP3. ABBAs DQ and MMs Love on Me.

When I watched in cinema... It was a double date, we were late for the horror we planned to watch. My then boyfriend fell in love with ABBA songs, second guy there was bored of his mind, and my and my friend had a time of our life :)

I love seeing which songs are people's favorites! (Mine is the same as Stephanie's, so that was cool! 🌟) I actually saw a local production of this musical right before everything closed for coronavirus...I really enjoyed it! (It was my first exposure to Mamma Mia *at all*. And it was 10/10.)

mamma mia is my family's favorite movie! we jam out to all the songs at home and in the car. i already love abba, but mamma mia definitely made me fall in love with them more.

I go to a young single adult church congregation and one day we went to watch a local production of Mamma Mia. I was very ok with this, despite my surprise that the middle-aged bishop approved. The director informed the audience that we could sing along and get rowdy which I would have happily done. Had I not ended up sitting right next to the bishop who kept commenting on how "awkward" everything was. You can't wolf whistle when Harry walks on stage in a speedo while your bishop is furrowing his eyebrows at you.

ONLY a PAUL McCARTNEY fan (LIKE ME) would NOTICE that Stellan Skarsgard (Bill) at the beginning of the movie is wearing a T-SHIRT from one of PAUL McCARTNEY'S concert tours, but he is wearing it back to front....the tour dates are really on the BACK of the shirt and a photo of PAUL is on the FRONT which is why he is wearing an unbuttoned shirt OVER the T-shirt to hide the photo of PAUL on his back. I KNOW, because I HAVE that SAME T-SHIRT from that tour! I LOVE it, he MUST be a McCARTNEY/BEATLES fan.

Lay Your Love on me is my favorite Abba song and Mamma Mia song. I wish they did bot cut out the rest of the song.
It is iconic. The cast did a great job and made the characters lovable. It is campy, but what is wrong with that.

I can confirm for you, miss Meryl Streep wanted to be an Opera singer in high school, so she took lessons for that. she went to Juliard, and i guess she got into acting because she needed money to pay for her then-boyfriends medical expenses.
