Modern AC-130s ditched the 40mm guns and replaced them with the Gau23a Bushmaster 30mm, same gun (mostly) used on some naval ships and AFVs. The Vulcans were swapped out for the Gau-12 25mm gatling guns at some point
Very cool LongShot! Many thanks for sharing! Like you said the damage models and secondary explosions were really good! Off topic, I would like to see the F-111 in DCS also!
Indie game was originally independent games, games that didn’t have the backing of a large publisher. But these games it’s more or less everything that isn’t a big studio AAA game.
This was a lot of fun! Obviously not your normal style, but I'd definitely be down to watch more videos of random games that you found interesting even if they aren't military aviation related. 2:07 I'm late to the party so I'm sure someone else has mentioned this, but in case not. "Indie game" refers to a game created by an independent developer team rather than a large game studio, which would be referred to as a "Triple A" game. It usually denotes a small team of just a few people who have not made very many, if any games before; but the term can be used to describe larger studios who develop and publish their own games independently rather than going through a third party publishing company to get their work out into the world. Edit: You've got me curious what nationality you are. You speak English very well, but it doesn't seem to be your first language and I don't recognize your accent.
In 1966 ac47 were testing and trying to use both starlight and flir to assist targeting. Most results were considered a failed test, and some were pleased with the results tho. In 1967 the ac130 was brought in and it had been successfully tested with nod and infrared targeting systems. Sooo if this game is depicting the ac130, yes. They had infrared. Before these tools were used, ac47 was still very successful at nailing targets simply by tossing giant flare out the open cargo door.
The gunship platform is an amazing concept from the AC-47 Spooky, the AC-119 Stinger, and the AC-130s (in all its variations). I would like to see them make an "AC-27 Spartan Sword". A modern variation of the original AC-47 as a "pocket gunship."
Back in the day, I played alot of a Mod of Battlefield 1942 called AIX. Had a buddy who would take turns with me flying and gunning in the AC-130. Great fun!
People do weird things when they are in shock, but yeah, half the town wandering aimlessly amid combatants who are clearly under air attack is stretching my disbelief a bit 😂 It looked like some missions have better AI behavior along with the building destruction. In that last mission the enemies were running for cover as soon as the bombardment started, but in the first two they just causally continued walking even as rounds started raining down around/on them.
Really cool video - I wish we were able to do this in DCS - with the much larger maps it would be interesting to fly around and try to find insurgents.
Yes, the one in COD was better. Yes, ED needs to make this a feature priority ASAP. They already have the ground model for the A-10. Just need to add more destruction modeling, ragdoll and maiming for personnel, and some aircraft modeling.
What they had back in Vietnam was not Forward Looking Infra-Red (FLIR), but low-light scopes, that you used in conjunction with infrared light. Combined, the infrared light basically lights up everything it's pointing at, so long as you're using the night-vision scope. FLIR is different. FLIR sees the infrared radiation coming off of things, creating the image off of that. Both are cameras in the sense that they both take ambient light and create and image with that, but FLIR requires something to cool the sensitive part so that the infrared shows up (called a Cooler Dewer, I think). Military FLIR, like you see on the Apache, have more or less a black/white style of imagery, whereas there are civilian, and some other military models (I saw one that the Navy was playing with), that have a colorized version, like you see in the movie Predator. You might think it's better to have the colorized version, but not really, not when you're dealing with weapon systems like the AC-130 Spectre or the AH-64 Apache.
this game had a bunch of updates over the last 2 years and some of the best parts were removed subsequently like changing the loadouts to whatever you want. The best combo for me was the 30mm bushmaster, 40mm BOFORS and the 25mm M61. The 30mm dominates!
Indie games are games made by single persons, small teams with small budgets or very small companies that are very low ond budget. Indie games are primarily made by individuals or small teams who, in most cases, didn't register game development / software company.
Thanks Longshot! Am def going to check that game out! Also, Limbic has a game for iPad called Zombie Gunship which offers some good, basic gameplay that people may like as well.
Dcs does have a gunship mod but it doesnt really work great, you can fly it and shoot the guns but I think you cant go into the back where the actual gunners are supposed to be
According to Urban legend the night vision was switched from Red to Green, because the red night vision allowed soldiers to see, creatures and demon like winged creatures that were not in our dimension. So they would waste a lot of ammo on these ethereal things. Aren’t urban legends fun??
@@tomidageneral6040 Oh the Urban Legend exist, it’s a thing that keeps coming back up again and again. Doesn’t mean events actually happened as described tho.
Haha, I have never in my life owned MW2, or even a console capable of playing it, but I have played that mission at a friend's house and even that brief exposure was enough to cement it in my brain, and it is exactly what popped into my head upon seeing the thumbnail of this video 😂

There's actually an ac130 mission in Ace Combat Assault Horizon as well lol
Modern Warfare 2 still has the most fun AC-130 gameplay I’ve seen
Think there was a really linear mission in MW1. Haven't played MW2 so I'll take your word for it.
I agree
I only bought that game for that particular single player mission. It's outstanding.
Really cool of you to feature a small studio's game on your channel, with no sponsorship.
Btw, I'm needing a 2 Morons dogfight Apache and Ka-52
@7:42 😂 SOOOOOOO satisfied! Haha Love it! ❤
Nice change of pace LS. Way to keep things fresh! 🍻
Thank you
First FLIR were green, black+white came later.
I remember it was red..
@LongShotChannel
Red was the old school Night Vision.

Yeah the main reason was that nobody makes 40mm ammo anymore, but as you said there’s plenty of 30mm.
Very cool LongShot! Many thanks for sharing! Like you said the damage models and secondary explosions were really good! Off topic, I would like to see the F-111 in DCS also!
Friendly soldier: We need 105!
Long shot: Send it.
(The round impact)
Interesting and agree about better ground models for DCS!
not sure I want any guy named longshot to send me anything, much less 105!
@@utley Heh. Longshot did a video recently where he scored a lucky long-range killshot. Many in the comments said "That's why they call him Longshot!"

GS sent me again!
Great to watch your video's!

Project Gunship? Nah. Project Funship!

I find the casual strolling of noncombatants in a war zone a little ridiculous.

Thanks very much for this mate! It was a great idea to show us this & I'll watch when you want to play it ❤
Very cool! I love those types of games where you can just rain down total destruction like that with some level of threat.

Agreed, having an AC-130 would be incredibly cool to have in DCS, im honestly surprised its not added yet
I love a good rag doll effect!😂
Just went and bought it, thanks for pointing this game out! :) Zombie Gunship is amusing too, but obviously strays a bit from realism. :)

Was waiting for someone to make a video on this game, its honestly just an awesome game
I have this game for years now, updates are slow asf but im a patient man, I'm sure one day the DEV will start pumping out new content faster.
Wow the AC-130 Gunship!!! Nice!!!
A shame dcs doesn’t have gunship, at least the old H models.
GS: “Shoot the tree line” LOL
had this game on wishlist but i couldn't find any good gameplay until now

I enjoy this game. Check out Beach Invasion 1944 & 1945 for more relaxing shooting fun.
Spooky 152 bring the rain!
Ground team is requesting 105 Sabo rounds.

Damn! I thought this was a DCS mod for a second. This would be an outstanding module. I mean C'mon!
It did have the 105 mm in Vietnam near middle of war

No way that’s true
@@tomidageneral6040 Oh the Urban Legend exist, it’s a thing that keeps coming back up again and again. Doesn’t mean events actually happened as described tho.
indie games means independent games. Not a big studio
Say what you will about Michael Bay, the AC130 in Transformers is the tits.
if ED up^grade ground unit i hope they upgrade Combined arms to
the C130 anubis mod has AC130 loadout that can be used with practice....
Looks cool!
You all hear that???...its the sound of Every original mw2 12 year old having flashbacks when they see that green screen

Indie game is small team
Ok, finally good to know. I thought it meant like independent or something
@@LongShotChannel that's what it's short hand for, yes. But it's synonymous with small team these days.
@@LongShotChannel it does, at least usually lol. Independent teams are usually small groups of people.
Yes FLIR at that time
The AC130 wouldn't be very useful in an area where there are air defenses, like in DCS.
*ENEMY AC-130 ABOVE!*
Bit like the Battlefield scenario from a long time ago
BF 2?
Star light scope.
If this is a play on silent scope, good one.
Used those in The Basic Infantry School way back when...
Now do the same mission with GS as the gunner.
I'm sure they would somehow manage to hit themselves with the 105 mm howitzer, right before crashing the plane into their friendly troops 🤣
Gunner HEAT PC! video when haha
Spooky
It has potential but development has pretty much stopped. No updates at all in nearly a year.
this game is fun for about an hour and a half and after that.....nothing
