I was crazy about Platinum Blonde. They were gorgeous. So many great Canadian bands. I never complained about too much Can Con. It is the best decades ever for music 70's and 80's.

The Box - Ordinary People... a song that is more relevant today than it was when it was recorded... the "other country" has changed, but the message is the same.. and incredibly powerful!

What strikes me as an American growing up in the 80s is how few of these great Canadian bands become popular here. Also-Candian pop music is really smart-really creative and really catchy. It's a shame MTV ignored the Canadian market in the 80s as Americans missed out on some phenomenal music.

The Kings’ “This Beat Goes On/Switchin’ To Glide” was one of the biggest songs for me back in 1981 or so. I’m surprised they aren’t mentioned here or in the rock bands video. More Berg’s The Pursuit of Happiness band was huge for me too. I’m surprised they aren’t mentioned either.

As an American growing up on the Border, it's odd to see all of us here in the US who never heard some of the great music from Canada. This beat goes on is still played here and there, some of the other songs here are not, The Betat, maybe not a huge a hit at the time, but much more enduring. I must admit even I don't remember some of these but I listened to stuff like Streetheart, Toronto, Trooper, Chilliwack, Harlequin. It's fun to see those Uni sex punk haircuts, had one myself in the early 80s, looks LOL now.

I will be forever grateful to live on the border of Stanstead Quebec with amazing radio on AM and FM from Canada, I became obsessed with all things Canadian pop music. Can't believe it appears Luba was left out of this documentary from research I'm doing, especially since Daniel Lanois produced Secrets and Sins and she was Female Vocalist of the Year 3 consecutive years only behind Celine and Anne Murray.

Documentary also has a narrow view of what Canadian music is as well... as the francophone music output in Canada was and is considerable... Artistically, The Francophones in Canada produce more culture per capita than the english and by far. I guess filling a stadium in Atlanta registers more than filling a stadium in Paris. I am a big fan and supporter of all Canadian artist and i'll be cheering on the fact that so and so is a Canadian artist, etc... but the wider canadian populatin don't seem to understand how much we Francophones live on culture, we will be doing our own thing regardless, it is an existential issue.
