I plan on doing a partial DIY guitar in the next year. Make the body out of random bits of wood, but probably stick with commercial hardware--like the neck, tuners, bridge, etc. Although ALSO considering a lap-steel guitar. More of that can be DIY, since such guitars are fret-less, so you don't need a precise and gorgeous neck. I guess in the post-apoclyptic world, you need a luthier, cuz who else is going to make your battle guitars for you? :) :)
