When I was at Coastal Highway I stationed myself at one of the cabins on the islands. I would stand outside at night for no reason other than to listen to the sound track. So beautiful. The music in this game conveys such loneliness to me, but in a beautiful way so that I can somehow enjoy it very much.
It’s exactly how they want The Long Dark to feel, and they do it well.
i set up base in the gas station at the coastal highway
@@CowboybubPercussion It's the same feeling I get when I go for a hike by myself in the winter time and there is no one around. I feel so lonely but it's also so beautiful.
I often find my self doing the same thing 🤗 freezing to death but wait for the one more minute to go inside just to listen the music 🤗
@@anastasijajelic3298 It's pretty stunning..til a bear wanders up, lol.
The music cues in The Long Dark need to get the Computer Game Oscar - it doesn't get any better.
21:19 that's it. Wish my house automatically played this when i walked in. It sounds like you walked into a safe room.
This game.. One of my fav.
This game is so depressing and force you to do things on your own,
The only people you'll encounter are frozen bodies. Yet it feels so relaxing to be on your own sometimes and disconnect. We are so used to rely on others but we forget our true self. Life (in general) teach you this. There will be long dark path and shinny moments but you will have to accept those as the same thing.
It is always when you're lost in the darkness that you can truly appreciate sunshines and growth. One always comes with the other.
And this game teaches you how much life is precious And short. Every second living is a gift. No matter in what situation you are in.
I remember I had tones of food, I had my little the and coffee, my home base but then I realized my food ran very low and I had to go fishing but I was caught in a blizzard, I ran in the wrong direction, I was starving, I was thirsty, tired my health bar was running low and I was chassed by a wolf (the best situation in the game)
And I was so desesparate cause I had spent So much time with this character, a girl (still alive) I almost rage quit but I continued and the wolf gave up, I remember I had an emergency needle shot or I don't know, because I was about to die about hanger and being frozen. That allowed me to cross a bridge, go to a barn, nothing was there expect an axe, and then I went out again thinking whatever, you'll die, it's the game after all but I didn't want to die by doing nothing and then I ran in the direction of where the storm was blowing (I couldn't see a thing plus it was night time in a blizzard) and I ran and hit a wall by following the wind and I found the Big country side house (that is the pleasant valley map) with all the dead apple trees around it. So any way, I entered a door and could see a thing, the only thing that you would hear is the creepy wind blowing hitting the windows and the wood cracking, but apparently, I ended up in the bathroom because I drank the toilet water, if I hadn't do this I would have died. Gathered a lotta food and rest. I've spent 2xmonth on game in that house.
I love this game for this. I've never lived an experience like this in a movie, a série or whatever. It's the best. And now yes she still lives but not on that region tho'
you described the value of life so beautifully, as well as a moment from the game, that for a second I thought that you were describing your case from life.
I'm listening to this as I do a small math test at home. This is the soundtrack of 2020
I'm listening this as I'm studying MatLab for a test! Hope this OST brings good grades!
@@justcaused6182 good luck on the test
The world is unforgiving. No one knows your name, and likely no one ever will. You have no friends, no modern electronics, no sanctuary, moving from one shelter to the next in an endless chase for food and the next firestarter. As you are sitting in your cabin, freezing, without any way to start a fire, you make the decision to leave and try to find another cabin or cave that has firestarting tools. You think to yourself, i can just sit here and slowly pass, then it will all be over. In the end, you leave. In the end, you chose risk over damnation. In the end, you survived, until the next morning.
That is amazing, and sums up this game perfectly.
"In the end, you chose risk over damnation."
Hope you don't mind if I steal that line to use in a ttrpg campaign.
11:55 Best part. It was night time(about 4h till day), i was walking from Pleasant valley through the Winding river connector. I was almost at the base of the dam and this started playing. I looked up with awe to see stars and a giant monolith from a past era, best felling i ever had when gaming. God, such an amazing game, it fills you with a sense of melancholy but pleasent in a way. This OST encapsulates the aesthetic of the game perfectly.
Aw yeah
The music matches the atmosphere perfectly, and enhances the emotional impact of what you're seeing in game because you're hearing the desolation and quiet as well as seeing and feeling it.
it really sells it - the graphics can be cartoonish and unrealistic, but this soundtrack really puts you right there into the loneliness of the snowy landscape ... incredible achievement!
22:03 The echoing guitar riff sends chills down my spine, reminding me whats out there in the endless darkness of night, in the trees... waiting.
6:38 "Hello everyone, this is Raphael, the creative director of The Long Dark."
I swear to God I watch every one of those
15:37 I remember a walk through Pleasant valley, the wind was hollowing hard, the blizzard was near, I began to run but I was far from the only place I knew (farmstead).
In the middle of the blizzard I found the Highway road and saw a wall as I was approaching a corner. I thought I was saved, but it was some of those buildings without real shelter, just a hollow and destroyed roof. I just pass the time, and eventually faded to the long dark.
"Tomorrow" is magical.
Chillin in Desolation and this song hit 6:38. Feels amazing. I love this game.
This is the best song
Gotta love Darkness Falls. I love hearing this music while im in Carter Hydro Dam.
30:44
Everyone has raged at least once when they heard this
When does this play?
@@Omega14343 this is the sound that plays after you die in the game "...you faded into the long dark..." etc :D
@@Omega14343 death.
This game is hard to play but this is the best survival game ever.
It aint hard once you master it.
the long dark has one of the best ost ever
9:21 reminds me of one thing that happened when i was playing the game. I was in Forsaken Airfield and I was walking to the hanger, I was still far away when a blizzard hit. I had a decent amount of health, but it was going down. There was no shelter in sight and I couldn't see 10 feet in front of me. I was trying to follow a river, but it was no use. I used a emergency syringe to try to get closer, but all I found was a few rocks. A started a fire to keep myself alive, but with the wind I could just barely keep it going. Once I ran out of fuel, I tried running down the road for as long as I could. At the brink of death, I saw the giant doors of the hanger in the distance. I barely made it inside with my life. It really just shows how amazing and tense this game can be.
Desolation sounds like the phrase "I can make it...I can make it!" The start of desolation is a shift in the wind and the atmosphere changes, the hair stand up on the back of your neck. 7:20 sounds like you know something's wrong. 7:30 is that first timber wolf braking the top of a hill and as the music builds another one appears and then another and when the music goes quiet it's that standing tension, the waiting tension. 7:54 you take a look at your surroundings and see a cabin and you hope for them to go away. 8:10 the first wolf takes a step and you back away. 8:18 the wolfs walk faster and you speed up. 8:24 they start running and you turn around sprinting to the cabin. 8:30 your sprinting as fast as you can with the wolfs getting closer. You start thinking "i can make it!...I can make it!" You reach your hand out and the cabin gets closer but so do the wolfs. 8:37 you swing the door open and slam it! Barricading yourself against the door with a wolf slamming into it. For the rest of the song you're on your knees, crying, realizing just how weak and alone you are
And that's why you always keep a flare gun on your person or a gun in general
r/im14andthisisdeep
dude i can even draw how cool it sounds before comics
Wolves think you'r weak until you pull out the revolver and start blasting
I'm glad they added grenades to the long dark
Love this, I've always wanted to live in the wilderness..
"Memories" makes me feel so alone. It's pretty scary tbh.
3:58 Carter Hydro Dam vibes
The only game to give me chills when I play. I'm so glad I bought this on the winter steam sale back in 2017. I still remember the first time playing The Long Dark, it was more than an experience.
The sense of dread in nightfall is real
Gives me goosebumps every time I spent more than a few hours in a fisihing hut,and end my session just at the right time to hear this.
It is amazing how music has the power to change reality. I’m listening to this on headphones as i work as a night custodian at a school. I’ve got the building to myself, wandering from room to room, and I see the most amazing sunset from the windows of this Spanish class. Then I step out into the hall-still mesmerized-and there’s a wolf, right there! I threw the vacuum at him ducked back into the classroom, and slammed the door. Not sure how long i can stay in this classroom. There’s a bowl of candy on the teachers desk, but it seems like it’s been there a pretty long time. Plus, I don’t have any water. If this is the last room I clean, I’m at peace with that, but at the same time, as long as I draw breath, there’s hope.
23:37 the best...
They really nailed the soundtrack in TLD.
One of the best soundtracks that i know of.
2/2/2023.
Comenzaré mi primera partida mañana mi gente... deseenme suerte. Siento que The Long Dark va a ser el top 5 mejores videojuegos que juegue en 2023 jajaja.
How it's going?
I get John Carpenter vibes from this. Especially this 3:52. My favorite part from the ost.
Carpenter definitely invented something with these echoed bass notes - there is a moment in the Firewatch soundtrack ("Something's Wrong") that uses the same effect for chills :D
Yeah i get Norwegian Station vibes
самый душераздирающий саундтрек для того пережил боль утрат любимых людей.
This soundtrack makes you feel any and every emotion tenfold.
@@thebestborb8564 you are right friend
9:21 Oh FFS here we go again....
That's the music that plays when you find a corpse
FFS?
@@benjaminmenken5693 I thought this was the wolf encounter music
@@SizemoreTV in the recent update this seems to play every time a wolf is about to attack - somehow I don't remember it being this "deterministic" in the past, but the cue does seem to play a lot more recently in these situations.
Heaven makes me imagine that the entire human race is watching our character either guarding him or waiting for him
Sad that nobody mentioned Majestic. For me it's bound with this view of the scarlet red sky right before the night when you know this night certainly will be at its coldest. Also the organ lick/chord progression on 20:50 was always haunting to me as it's just sounds so melancholic and relieving at the same time
Made it through another night
22:02 you know you are screwed...this soundtrack sounds so depressing and scary...feels you with isolation
This game is such a masterpiece.
22:51 i like this old "near death" ambient
Illuminate❤
18:30 ❤❤❤
Pov : You try get down to ravine basin without rope 30:44
This game has a unique feel to it that stays with you even years after you stopped playing it.
Yeah. I needed a break but the feeling uour talking about is just very very true
Ah yes. Memories from the "before" times.
I recently bought this game on switch after not playing it for years and It's been such a comfort to me. Nothing beats the isolating feeling this game gives you, its both calming and offputtng. I've barely survived more than a day because I haven't played in a while and barely remember where things are but Im looking forward to relearing the game
15:37 Never feel so lonly.. 🌀❄️❤️
Well we'll I missed this game. Thanks for this
Look for this so long... Thanks!
🐺🐺🐺Desolation for the win!🐺🐺🐺
12:52 Goosebumps. This is when you, with 5 HP, reach a farmhouse and get a thrill from the fact that you survived. This was the version
v.339, in 2016
Can’t wait for The Long Dark 2 with more realistic graphics and a map as big as DayZ.
I listen to this when I play as warden in the snowy sectors on foxhole
Its so beautiful
Damn I love something like this...
I watched StacyPlays's series so all these songs remind me of her let's play
El survival más original que he visto nunca, 2800 horas y no me aburro de jugarlo.
22:51 is a constant reminder of how many times I've suffered from food poisoning without any antibiotics.
2:50 -...
so deep.. in my soul
at 15:36 i'll open my daily log and be like:
Day 69
Pleasant Valley Farmhouse
I've been inside the farmhouse all day sewing Bear Coat and there's nothing much i can do at daytime because of the blizzard. I took my time harvesting cloth, repairing. while i was also waiting for the my water to boil. i just stared into the fire and listening to the clatter and creaking of this old house.
And just before sunset, the storm stopped abruptly like it was turned off, the clattering noise disappeared, then i went out to check outside if there's still snowfall, then i saw the most beautiful setting sun of orange hue passing through broken glass. the setting sun was slow and calming and the mountain silhouetting on the horizon
(i took a screenshot of it lol)
Ok so….. reading the comments very interesting. This game is awesome.
I’m becoming more pro / expert after many hours playing this and I have to say I had more fun when I was a noob in the beginning getting caught in blizzards and not knowing the maps and where the hell I was meant to be going. Now I’ve learnt all the maps and …. Kinda takes all the fun out of it once you master the game but I still have a decent time here. Just recently coming to the end of the nomad challenge, nearly done all the challenges now some of them are really awesome. Anyway this is one of the better survival games out there, probably one of the best indie games ever created in my opinion. So much freedom (although you cannot jump 😅😂) but it is very good with an amazing attention to detail however juxtaposed to a simple map design and concept.
Truly amaZing, a master piece.
Yes...that was I want!
3:32 sounds like it’s from an old zombie thriller movie
I am disappointed to learn that this game isn't a survival game where you play as a wolf.
Yea I don't know why but that sounds cool. Good Concept.
22:51 10 percent HP sound 💀
“The story for tomorrow is not yet written..”
Can you believe that this music is composed by the same artists who composed the score for Borderlands 2? So versatile.
Desolation... damn
If you have listened through these tracks, why not check out the Time Hollow ost. It is also good.
can you hear infinity in these sound tracks? ♾
Which of these is when you encounter a wolf? I know danger might be it but it doesn’t have that despairing gut wrenching sound of the world fading into dread as the sound of encountering a wolf on the side of a road
Starting to think the game may be bugged, most of the time it's just silence and nature sounds for me, I rarely hear the ambient music.
Got music turned on?
it's not a bug, it's a feature :) music rarely plays just to support atmosphere of the game and usually depends of locations, day or night times.
The music only plays under specific circumstances. If it played all the time, it wouldn't be worth as much when you did hear it.
It rarely plays in game, and when it does, man it's right at the perfect time (when approaching a new building, entering a cave etc)
Prepared and heaven
спасибо thanks
do have separate
Is the music from the caves in this too
It's the 4th Track listed in the Description "Darkness Falling".
It's at 1:57

This music makes me want to learn electric violin
much of it is guitar+ebow I think
