    That's the Jackson Hole Inder on Astoria Blvd & Hazen Street in Queens, formerly the Airline Diner, which, along with the Clinton Diner, was featured in Goodfellas. Been going to both pretty much my whole life

    Airline Diner from Goodfellas.
    Big key to prime rib is using those corded thermometer. if it's a large prime rib, use two- one at each end. 117'F RMR.

    Well done video. Considering the cost of a good prime rib roast, I suggest that people new to the procedure try assisting an experienced person cook one to learn the technique. If you know a meat addict type that grills a lot, make a deal. You buy the meat and ask them to teach you how to cook it. That way, you both get to share in the rewards. There aren't many pieces of meat that cost more than a flat screen TV. So, it's worth the extra effort.

    I bought a cheap prime rib from Aldi last year. $12 or $14 a pound. It wasn't super tender, but it tasted just fine. I went back many days later and walking by the meat I noticed two things. The tag on the remaining ones was down to $7.99/lb. And there was a 50% off label on the meat. So I picked up five of them. When I got home I realized I had gotten them for 50% off the $7.99 price. I still have one in the freezer. Today I got about 10 pounds of round steak from another store that was marked half price due to age. About $3 a pound. I love it when the store ages the meat for me and then gives me a super deal. That will all go to stews of various sorts.

    We live near a small inexpensive restaurant and before Covid they had Prime Rib Fridays. Huge portions of everything (meat, potatoes, salad, bread and dessert). There was enough food for 3 leftover meals. All for less than $30. Sadly, they can't get the meat anymore and have stopped having those special nights.

    I got one cryovacced in the deep freezer. I like to plug mine with whole cloves of garlic all throughout and then season it with salt, pepper, garlic, and rosemary. Hickory smoke until it registers around 105-110 and pull it off and sear it all side on a Blackstone in bacon fat. Sooooo good! 🤤

    Sup Larry, great job, your right about lottery, and people intimidated by the whole roast.. screams Xmas, brother and I get a half cow around Halloween, the rib roast is aging for Xmas, Xmas eve birria tacos lol. But 15 min or 1 hours room temp is a myth, especially a roast, the start at 500 degrees creates fast bark, holds juices, retains heat.. then lower to 325, 27 years did prime rib dinners for sportsman's club 150 people. With baked stuffed shrimp, loaded baked potato🤤, and all can eat $25. Last 4 years couldn't do it because costs.. happy holidays, tyvm tc

    There’s a place near my house that sells $1.50 oysters every day for about 3 hours. I’ve gone in there with my boyfriend and one time ordered their $28 prime rib and, I swear it looked like it could feed fred flinstone. The only downside is it took up so much of the plate that there wasn’t much of the sides but if it means I get more meat I’ll take it! It was delicious and totally worth the $28. Fed me for two more days.

    Walmart just put the "prime Rib" out today. Choice prime rib which is not prime rib. $13.97/lb. Crazy price for choice beef. I got a 1/2 beef from a local farmer and the bone in rib roast is 7LBs. I haven't looked at it yet because it comes frozen but I hope it is better that store bought choice meat. When I prep it on the 24th I hope it looks good.

    I’ve tried cooking a small bone-in one sous vide. Turned out well enough though without further treatment it looks unimpressive on the outside.
    Sometimes they’re on sale at Aldi and merely expensive and not ridiculously expensive. I live alone and rarely have company so buying a big one isn’t practical.

    • @RonJDuncan
      @RonJDuncan ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you aren't familiar with Guga's channels, Guga Foods or Sous Vide Everything the solution is pretty simple. After you pull it, pat it dry and apply the flamethrower to add the sear/crust. Then it will look impressive on the outside and taste great on the inside.
      If you don't have a culinary torch (and really, I wouldn't bother going an expensive route, you can pick up a torch for less than $10 and a canister of butane fuel for less than $5 and sear it to develop the crust.

    Interesting because I literally just bought my first smoker and all I been dreaming about was to make a monster sized prime rib steak in it. I like the simple seasonings. Normally I only do Salt, Pepper and maybe a little Adobo when I do them. Which isn't much different than what you did.

    Ther is so much misinformation about a Prime Rib Roast that it just intimidates people. Prime Rib technically, is a rib roast that has been USDA Graded as Prime. A Choice cut is just a rib roast. Don't think I have ever heard a better explanation of cooking the meat cold vs room temperature. As to searing the meat first or last, it all depends on the individual cook. Personally, I sear it in an iron skillet, starting at room temp. before cooking. Works for me. And no folks. Letting it Rest for 20 minutes or so does Not mean it will get cold. So Don't cut it open right away.
