I'm working my way through your vids and I'm so inspired to break out of my usual musical bounds when composing, it's like a door in my brain that's never been opened, cheers Gavin, and good luck in all you do!
What a fantastic beat. I've been watching a lot of voice live touch demos and your's just blew them all out of the ballpark. Thanks and I would love to hear more. Damn nice job, you should be proud of your work.
I just found this today and I'm love man! It's absolutelly fantastic. I usually don't like covers for Fiona Apple songs but you did a amazing job!! Thanks for this!
Amazing cover, and great video too. I love all your stuff, been a fan since I was like 15, and always try to show people your work. Btw the last line in the song is "Maybe I could teach him/her something, maybe he/she could teach me too, even just to reach is a triumph, and now I've even got a hold on you". I think she switches to "teach them too" as well, but I can't be sure.
I´m not sure how many times I´ve seen this since its release. I can´t believe this has just 45K views, it´s like a hidden gem or something. Did Fiona call you? Gavin, I love your work, not just this cover, you are such a great and inspiring artist, thanks!
Ableton provides the tempo (and click track to my headphones) - VLT 2 is slaved to Ableton. Vocals into VLT 2, keyboard midi'ed into Ableton (via RME soundcard in the rack). VLT 2 also sent to Ableton as a stereo track to be recorded (and mixed in post).
Awesome!!! that was a great song! I´ve been using a voicelive touch 1 about 8 months...and now i just have the VLT2.... in my gigs i use a lot of the hardtune presets controled by a previous setup scale but sometimes the hardtune is a little bit robotic and weird.....Did you think is possible to make a Midi track with melodies in a Daw control my live hardtune notes on the VLT2? thanks
I can't speak for other DAWs, but I found that the internal metronome for the VoiceLive Touch 2 and Ableton stay consistent without midi sync. So you can use it in SSH mode and it should sound fine, including most fx (maybe excluding some of the subdividing effects like Chopper and Stutter). The only issue might be your start and stop points of your first loop may not land on the downbeat of your DAW, so you may have to sing a bit past the end point to accomodate for a different end point.
Any chance of a new gruvis album? maximum unicorn is by far my favorite album and i (hopefully) cant wait to hear the next evolution . A new ebu would also be amazing. Great cover by the way. currently cant stop listening to fortnightshift.
Awesome job on this! So seamless and it sounds amazing. Can you tell me what is plugged into what? I'm thinking of getting a VoiceLive Touch 2 soon and want to make sure I can pull it off. Thanks!
What kind of Mic is that? I am trying to find a decent mic. It's most frustrating. And also which do you prefer the Voice Live 3 or Voice Live Touch 2? Aside from looping, how do you integrate both effects and harmonies you put through the mic and then having effects on keyboards like say Rhodes piano or say guitar so you have both mic and instrument utilize respective effects/harmonies from Voice Live Touch 2 or Voice Live 3 as well as respective effects for instrument? Then of course do you need volume pedal do back off say the harmonies if you want?
Hey Gavin! This is awesome!!!! Thanks for listing the info too. As a new Voicelive user I was eating the info up. Forgive me if this was in the annotations, but I didn't see it. What 'effect preset' did you use? I saw your notes on reverb etc, but I didn't see which preset you had selected. Hope that makes sense! Examples of those would be the :Bari White, Jabba presets. Thanks!!!!! Keep up the awesome work.
LizaLavolta Hey Liza, I usually make my own presets. This song used several different custom presets. Sorry, I know that's not very helpful. If there's a specific section of the song you want to point me towards, I might be able to tell you what its preset is comprised of.
It is! That's what I guess my next step is then. I'd like to create a more 'natural' sounding one for standard vocal lines. Thanks! You should think about doing a TCHelicon Tutorial. You really know your way around it and so many people are still trying to grasp it.
Very unique song mate, respect! May I ask a question? I am just about to buy a VLT 2, but not sure how to record the performance itself on my computer. What kind of program do I have to use to do that? (for PC, not apple) Thank you very much in advance.
I can't get my VoiceLive Touch 2 to sync up to Ableton for the life of me. I have the USB cable going, it's set to slave, the screen even tells me it's locked when I go to tap tempo. But every time I record a loop it gets off tempo when repeating. How did you set yours up? Seems to loop in time flawlessly.
It's been a while, but I believe I just set the tempo of my VLT2 preset to the same as that of my Ableton session... one is not actually slaved to the other. As long as my loop recording start/stop is quantized, the loops will stay in sync with the loops I'm doing in Ableton (their respective "seams" might just be in a different place than those of the Ableton session).
@@gavincastletonmusic shoot, so you are not looping the DAW audio from the keytar in the VLT2? Do you know if that is possible using an audio interface and one of the inputs on the VLT2?
Hey Gavin, Just wondering how you synced up your voice live touch 2 to ableton? have been trying with little success as of yet to get the loops in sync between both software
+little adventures the two are using the same exact tempo, therefore they don't actually have to technically start at the same moment in time for all the loops and delays in the VL2 to stay in time with the ableton stuff.
Fiona call him, please. Superb song construction. Great job, beautiful sound.
SOLID musicianship. Man by the end you made this song a thousand times better
Amazing rendition! Love the surprises around every corner and the leg perc!
i was just looking for covers of tracks from the idler wheel and found this its great youre doing the lords work please carry on!

Ever great, man! Can't wait for new songs!

Great work Gavin! We really appreciate all the hard work you put into this demo :D
Can't get enough of this. Split screen FTW!
Great job! Awesome performance.

This made me so inspired musically.

yay!!!!
Have you ever heard of SOHN? I think you would do a killer cover!
Mimi Pinkdot I have - he's a killer producer!
ur vid is awezum mann.. btw, how do u compare voicelive with kaoss kp3 in live performing??
Raphael Raymond I can't really compare them as I've not used the Kaoss kp3.
Fiona, call him (maybe)
Hmmm, just seven years later, they both release new music just 6 days apart.
Am I the only one getting hopeful?
Very unique song mate, respect! May I ask a question? I am just about to buy a VLT 2, but not sure how to record the performance itself on my computer. What kind of program do I have to use to do that? (for PC, not apple)

Never tried it - might work!
hey gavin, this is so good! is there any chance to get the music sheet for keyboards?

@@401starplayer I think you could, given it has AUX and Guitar inputs, but I don't recall doing that myself so can't say for sure.
Nice job Gavin, I covered this song too haha
She's going to call you. I bet.
Wonderful.

Ive watched this video entirely too many times. It just get stucks in the head so bad
you're such a badass
Ciao Gavin, ma tu usi VLT come loop?
Just curious if Fiona Apple ever saw this
What were you expecting?
what effect are you using when you sing she excites me
I know you use delay+trans but on what
meaghan myers on the VoiceLive Touch 2... does that answer your question? Or you looking for specifically which delay and which trans?
WHY I Only Have One Thumb?
I hope she calls, dude.
