Honestly, I don’t appreciate the way Dr. Ann Chi Hong dealt with his affection, it brought the embarrassment on the table to Song Wha and the others as well. On the contrary, Ik Jung showed how smart he was and had great sense of humor. I love Ik Jung, he truly earns Song Wha’s heart in every ways.

that unwavering stare he put on chi hong on 2:45 shows how confident he is in his feelings. he didn’t even give any slightest glance on anyone other than chi hong (like he’s communicating something deep that only chi hong and ikjun can understand)
At first songhwa is still smiling, but after chihong pushed the question, she’s not smiling anymore. Poor songhwa has to be in that situation :(
This scene is soooo intense. Lee Ikjun tried so hard not to put Songhwa in an uncomfortable position by not answering their oh-so-personal questions, making him so drunk and be in such vulnerable state. But Chi Hong really had to do that huh. It is obvious in this episode he feels threatened with Ikjun's close relationship with Songhwa. Songhwa is now so confused what exactly is happening. Why Ikjun had to confess JUST NOW, when they're all trying to live a stable life at 40, when they are all been doing well as friends? Why disturb the calm water? She was so confused she does not know whether to accepy Ikjun's love or not. AAAAAAAAAAAA and it hurts so much to see Ikjun hurting like that. Him singing I Knew I'd Love You while hurting so bad and still trying so hard not to cry really fkin breaks my heart. I cried a lot in this episode, all I wanted was happiness for Ikjun but there he is.
You also have to take into account that Song Hwa may be reluctant to start a relationship with Ik Jun because she had to watch thru Ik Jun's marriage with his first wife, Uju's birth, etc. That must have hurt

But this is cold anger, if everyone knew what expression meant on his face, I do not think anyone would be able to laugh, however, he has never showed it before, that's likely why only Chi Hong might have recognised it.

I guess everyone here disliked Captain Ahn after this scene. But that’s because this scene was supposed to happen the way it is. I was torn between having to choose between him and Ik Jun before this since Captain Ahn as well is a really good person. Yet this scene had perfectly given the viewers the opportunity to vouch for Ik Jun without having to feel bad if Captain Ahn is not going to be chosen by Song-Hwa. This scene was able to show how even though Ik Jun is the bubbly and nosy person he is, he would never do something like this to someone such as putting someone in an uncomfortable spot just for his own convenience which to me had given Song Hwa the chance to re-assess who really is a better fit for her between them.

Or maybe I think this is the "bad" side of captain ahn's character, the writer wants to show us. Cause even before this scene happened he always keeps on pushing himself too much at Song hwa, making Song hwa feel awkward a lot of times. It was clear in ep 5 Song hwa kinda rejected him, while he answered that he will behave accordingly so that Song hwa won't feel uncomfortable, he always say also that he won't cross the line but ended up crossing the line again and again. The hair/water resto scene, the super close space elevator scene before ik-jun came in, the car scene shoulder tap, and asking for lunch/dinner everytime were all too much feeling boyfriend already oops.. Captain Ahn doesn't know how to chill.. so yes i think its his "bad" side. I love pa naman his back story and his friendship with iksun, and his & song hwa's first meeting was soo cute. Hope the writer and pd nim will "redeem" his character. Good vibes only! Pls pls.. 😊
No, viewers could be torn by their personality but it's clear from the start that Song-hwa rejected Captain Ahn and never want him to continue pursuing her.
Unlike Jeong-won who lied to Gyeo-ul but chose to act indifferently, or Seok-Hyung, who did not answer anything to Min-ha. Song-hwa never gave him a chance.
We even saw her uncomfortable face when Captain Ahn asked her out to have dinner or asked her to allow him speaks informally on his birthday.

This scene practically shows that Song Hwa knows well about Ik Jun's feelings. When the first question came Ik Jun handled it well by avoiding it giving No Comment. Song Hwa smiled at him feeling grateful to him for not making her uncomfortable. But during the second time, the situation changed. Chi Hong made it uncomfortable for her. Things become off with him for Song Hwa. Even when he talked informal to her or when he pat Song Hwa just like Ik Jun, it made her uncomfortable. When Chi Hong couldnot control his urge tp know what's really up with Song Hwa and Ik jun he made the move. Ik Jun didnot back off this time. As he was drunk and off gaurd, he let it out. Its like a bold signal he made to Chi Hong to hold his gaurd. I felt that Song Hwa knew it would come out this time so she reacted like that, still, calm while lowering her head. Timing is everything in case of love but in their case they missed the right timing. I heart is bleeding for this 20 years old unrecruited love😢
Song Hwa's eyes say it all. Anyone who has loved at least one person in their life understands what eyes really reflect. She's had those eyes since her uni years and they seem to never go away. She never has those eyes with the other 3 guys, only with Ik Jung

It’s only now that I’ve learned how good Jung-suk is as an actor. You can really feel his emotion(s).
This scene totally revealed Chi Hong's insecurity. I think he mastered in BS-DA (Densely-Awkward), how many times has he been indirectly rejected by Song Hwa in the earlier episodes, Dr. Chae Song Hwa only wants to help him grow as a Neurosurgeon coz he shows a lot of potential to be great someday, and he's wasting all that by pursuing his emotions.
I really root for Dr. Lee Ik Jun's confession to have a nice result in the future.
I just love how protective IkJun is to SongHwa always! Even when put to spotlight, he gave an answer that will not put SongHwa in an awkward situation rather, he gave an answer that is filled with love and respect.
Nothing is force. Nothing is awkward. Just pure admiration.
In my opinion, Songhwa's reaction to this confession and subsequently in the karaoke scene was absolutely normal. She must have been stunned to find out that her best friend of 20 years has feelings for her but never told her anything, and it would make things even more frustrated for her if we are expressly shown that Songhwa's first love is also Ikjun, but bc she thought he didn't share her feelings, she decided not to tell him out of fear of ruining their friendship. She suppressed her feelings and was content all along just being his best friend, only to find out now that she may just possibly be Ikjun's first love (and that he is still in love with her). If I was Songhwa, I would be melancholic too, especially thinking about all the lost time and missed timing and how it might be too late now to change their relationship :( I really hope they can be happy together, bc I don't think they can go back to pretending like nothing happened (and I don't want them to either, because this is something they need to clear among themselves). Please give us their happy ending in S2 or S3, Shin-Lee. They deserve it. 😭
Exactly, they can't have the same kind of friendship if SongHwa rejects him. It will be awkward for both of them to be together as friends, no more eating or drinking coffee together. They might just hang out during bad practice. It's different from what happened 20 yrs ago where they were not aware of how the other person feels. I really wish that they will end up together.

He is not confessing to SH. He is reassurring his feelings towards SH to Chi Hong so he would back off. Hence the reaction of Dr. Chae. It’s a late declaration of love but nevertheless, this scene has proven that the JungPal moment in Reply 1988 will never happen here. The timing is off, it’s a right love in a wrong time but atleast he was able to finally blurt it out.

the karaoke scene seems even sadder now...he held back his confession despite liking her so much all those years ago and now he's forced to confess because of a silly drinking game. all the suppressed feelings of hurt and affection must be coming out at once.
Heartbreaking scene. The awkward long and realistic pause, the tension, the silence, and then just a hard hitting two words. The confession that is so long overdue. And that subtle but perfect piano playing at exactly the right moment in the background. You reminisce about the time lost and the pain that could’ve been saved, but also the different path it could have lead down. So beautifully and painfully crafted, instantly you get the reaction from the audience that you want - of what love ultimately is, Ik Jun put Song Hwa’s feelings before his own, whereas Chi Hong acted selfishly.
Lee Ik Jun be like: let the battle begin while looking intensely eye to eye with Chi Hong.
If u noticed how smart and meticulous writer on building this loveline..it is started when Jun Wan told Song Hwa about Ik Jun never chased girl in his life...but in the end now Song Hwa know that the girl Ik Jun always has in his heart is her....but she confused becoz why Ik Jun never tell her or confess to her.....and also why Ik Jun choose to get married with his ex wife later on

my guess is ikjun got his first wife pregnant so he married her. because we all know ikjun had a kind of wild past wherein he goes to clubs regularly. maybe he became a playboy after he missed his chance with songhwa back then. and then he got serious again when he had uju. just my guess!
Here’s the possible reason why ikjun get married; 1. The ex-wife guilt-tripped him 2. Arrange marriage 3. He wants to move on but he failed.

chi hong obviosuly felt threatened that's why he had to do this. and this is why i love ikjun more. songhwa has had boyfriends before but knowing ikjun loved her all along, he never acted like this. he always played it cool and never made songhwa feel uncomfortable.
to those saying chi hong was brave for this move, how exactly? is using a spin the bottle/drinking game a brave move? i don't think so. if he's really brave, then just go and ask ikjun directly himself. why the need to involve other people? not to mention they were their colleagues who are songhwa's juniors by the way. how awkward/uncomfortable she must have felt.

Remember Ik Jun was also married. I’m sure they both still have feelings for each other even tho they never dated back in college because of Professor Yang, remember he also had feelings for professor Chae but was rejected. Since Ik Jun didn’t want their friendship to spoil he kept his feelings to himself, he even bought a hair pin or something of that sort for professor chae during college but he never gave it out

Ikjun sunghwa ship had to take every step very carefully....i loved how gradually ikjun made space for himself in sunghwa's life. A confession should have been when they were by themselves....but ikjun being pushed at the edge, he had to do it. Puts him and sunghwa in a very awkward position. When he sang that song my 💔
I was so angry at Chi Hong in this scene 😣. He already knew it and chose to confirm it at such a place and made it so uncomfortable for both of them. I think Ik-jun was trying to maintain their friendship and didn't want to confess because it would mean the end of them, either friends or more. I love how he valued that more and was contemplating on his feelings. 😭

this was so sad and awkward. i felt so bad for both ik jun and chi hong. on one side a 20 year old one side love slowburn. on the other side, a very relatable genuine repectful love and understanding of a junior. they both are so nice. and just so miserable. and i also love love song hwa. as much as i am fixed in this love triangle and i want all of them happy, i know it wont end like that. all i hope now is that song hwa will choose whomever she truly likes and wants to date. hopefully the heartbreak wont be too bad to watch.

I love how ikjun confessed his feelings here. It did not have any pressure towards SongHwa. He did his best not to make Songhwa feel uncomfortable because he knew how Songhwa would feel in these situations. But when he was asked again, he said it in a clear manner to draw a line but at the same time, he didnt put any pressure towards songhwa. He also did his best to maintain the awkwardness towards him by asking why is chi hong was curious about his feelings in a light manner in order to dispel the growing awkwardness towards songhwa and the rest of the group

Really loved that part when Chi Hong asked if Ikjun HAD (past tense) feelings for Song Hwa and he answered that he HAS(present tense) making Chihong back off. And the staring contest... JJS so 🔥 in that red sweater. Even after the director yelled cut in the bts JJS still looked intense and didn't smile 😭
This proves Shin PD and Lee Woo Jung's brilliance. The slow buildup of the relationship and hints getting dropped reminds me of the good old replay days. If it ends anything like that I might take a break from life for a while. I have read my share of comments and I thought I'd share my thoughts on the matter.
First off Song Hwa. I know a lot happened and even I would want to leave, clear my head and process the monstrosity that just unfolded. But unlike most, I don't see the need for any action...yet. I think her flustered look says everything. She clearly needs the time to understand what exactly just happened and what she wants. I also feel so bad for her and don't wish this situation on anyone. The embarrassment she must have felt. I wouldn't want people gossiping about my personal life. I do look forward to their past and her thoughts on everything. Oh if only life was like a drama where we could see it from every viewpoint.
Which leads me to Anh Chi Hong. My dude I understand. How much desperation he must have felt looking at the gap in years between them but that was not the time. I get it, people can do it subconsciously but to consciously put someone in such a situation after they finally avoided it..soo cruel. I understand he was the action that set off the potential turning point of the story and he should know sooner better than later BUT HE DOES KNOW...He has been indirectly rejected by Song Hwa. No, I am not saying give up but he needs to respect the lines that were drawn and let her decide when she is ready. Also, this could have easily been done in a private one on one with a sober Ikjun and without the involvement of Songhwa and the fellow juniors.
I really applaud Ikjun for handling the situation the way he did with his usual joking self. His constant tabs on Song Hwa's comfort level were nice to see and after that, most questions were normal and had no real connection to the Song Hwa and Ikjun thing. I mean who hasn't been asked your first love during a bottle game. (I am well aware of many people who haven't btw) A lot of people are saying his rather straightforward reply was just a guy thing. RIval asks, I defend kinda situation. I agree that he was using it as a defense. I took it as a "Back off. Not the time" kinda reply. ALSO He said likes her. So what? That phrase doesn't seem to express any need for an answer or want for change, which is why I disagree with the rival aspect (for now?) Another thing to consider is he is probably super drunk. From everything Ikjun has shown us, he seemed pretty content with being Song Hwa's friend and sure I don't doubt the feelings are there but there are so many factors to consider. He has always been the passive guy that knows things about everyone while keeping everything to himself. He is very considerate so I am sure he can handle the situation well whether Song Hwa wants to be friends or needs a little more. His reply, demeanor, and everything was just Ikjun. It was so unselfish it just screamed him. It did break me to watch him sing in sadness and to watch him confess like that. I think for him, he wanted to hide it forever. :/
The pain....oh my at least this kind of confirms another Jung Pal scene won't happen. I think their past will reinforce the idea of timing and courage to take action and want something. It also just enforced the “confessions are not flashy” over and over with his sudden bomb drops that made my heart drop more than any elaborate confession would. They were all indirect too!! Crazy! WOW, this is sooo long...I apologize. Needless to say this is greatly written in a way that it sparks discussion :) Sometimes I think Shin PD is a god. You feel?

They were asking about the past. He answered both past and present.
Don't hate Dr. Ahn because he oushes Ik Jun to not hold back his feelings anymore. Maybe if he wasn't pursuing Dr. Chae, ik jun will just be comfortable loving Songhwa from afar. Jealousy brings about turning points. Besides, these characters are not in their 20s anymore. They are in their 40s. If you are in this age, you pretty don't much care about what people will say - you are stable, mature and secure with your feelings and thoughts and even financual status. Thus, arguments about destroying friendship if you pursue a romantic relationship does not hold anymore because in this stage, you go for someone whom you are comfortable and have the same wavelengths with to be your companion for life.. and the most likely partner would be a single, unattached friend whom you have relied on. Just like Ik jun, go for it! Rather than live a life of regrets. It is better to have tried than failed by not attempting. After all, if a person falls in love with a friend and it is mutual, why hold out for friendship when it can be better? You can have other friends but having a soulmate as a partner is rare.

Even though it was inconsiderate of Chiyong; I could understand his desperation and jealousy.
He has had feelings for Songhwa for a long time too & seeing Ikjun now actively spending alone time with her & there's also the 20 yr friendship he can't compete with, he feels threatened & trying to rush closeness with her (hence he asked to use banmal as birthday wish) & his continual confessions is to show her he is serious about her & not just admiring her brilliance as a neurosurgeon.

THS SECENE GOT ME ANXIETY, HAPPINESS, SADNESS, MADNESS, aajsdnasdjknsfjs T_T When he drank the first time and said "no comment", it gave me a heart attack. I wanted him to say yes so badly at that moment. But, when Chi Yong pushed him to respond, I felt so bad for him, and also so happy for Ik-junn. I want to see this scene from her point of view, I want to know her thoughts. When he finally confessed, it was all so WOW. It took 20 years for him to get those words out of his mouth, even though it wasn't a direct confession.

I think this was the decisive scene for songhwa, that she may or may not get into a relationship with ik jun, but Dr Ahn case is closed by putting them in a tight spot like that. He will forever be a colleague for her, no grownup behave like this, in situation like this.So I am happy with the end result.

in this scene, we can officially see how Chi Hong is selfish. He loves Song Hwa but he don't consider about her feelings. He couldn't see or probably choose to brush it off when he secretly knows this question might make her uncomfortable. The shoulder tap too. Considering how Song Hwa is older than him, he should've put some respect on the line. He was just thinking all about himself and he seems like the type who won't back down unless someone else knock some sense into him and place him to where he belong. Honestly, I would rather for her to stay single than dating Chi Hong.
We all knew that Ikjun was the first person to fall in love with Songhwa.He only kept his feelings because Seong told him that he has feelings for her.In this part,Chi’s action was understandable,its not something to be hated for.Besides,Ikjun has a choice to answer the question or not.The friendship between Songhwa and Ikjun is not that shallow for people to think that this ruin their relationship.😊

Ikjun proved himself worthy of songhwa here. He tried to dodge the question multiple times so that it doesn't get uncomfortable or awkward for songhwa. Revealing that he liked her or still likes her is not something you would do in front of your colleagues when there is whole 20 year friendship at stake. Ikjun was considerate of songhwa's feelings as well as their friendship. But chihong on the other hand made him confess forcefully either because he already knew ik-jun's feelings and wanted sh to know so that it can harm their friendship or he really wanted an answer himself. Either way the viewers started siding with ikjun and thar is exactly what the makers wanted because chihong wasn't going to be in S2😂. After having watched this show over 10000 times, i cant believe the 2nd season is finally here and might have some answers to our questions!
Professor Ik-jun just punched Capt. Ahn with his deathstare. Just because Ik-jun has a good sense of humor and he is a bubbly person doesn't mean he is dumb and shallow. This part was what solidified my hatred for Chi Hong! I was already pretty wary because Song Hwa rejected him and he just wouldn't back off! Like I get it that its hard to move on from someone you've loved for so long but still at least be respectful enough to 1. not do this and 2. maintain boundaries! just take no for an answer instead of being pathetic and trying to win a woman who DOESN'T WANT YOU!!
I've got mixed emotions for this scene. Not quite sure if I'll be happy that Ik Jun is finally confirming his affection towards SongHwa or be hurt because that confirmation might trigger some painful memories. 💔
