- REYNAULDS.COM presents a video on one of Josef Brandl’s best layouts the “Hochschwarzwald" (Black Forest) HO layout. The “Hochschwarzwald" layout is one of the finest and most detailed layouts in the world built and created by Master Layout Builders Josef Brandl and Thomas Oswald owner of MBZ Structures. It is very rare to see an actual video on a Josef Brandl layout, so we are very excited to share this opportunity with our loyal viewers. Together these two masters created the incredible "Hochschwarzwald" (Black Forest) layout owned by Dieter Bertelsmann. The Layouts took many years to complete and it is considered one of Josef Brandl's best layouts. Mr. Bertelsmann vision was to have a layout created in the 1920's era depicting life and how it was at that time in the Black Forest region of Germany. The little villages and towns in the layout actually exist and were the towns and villages where Mr. Bertelmann's grew up in as a child. The track, signals and turnouts on the layout were all handmade because they needed to look exactly like the original. Manufactures on the market today do not produce these items accurately so everything had to be built from scratch.
Another massive job was to create all the model structures which existed in the towns and villages. Over 100 structures were build by MBZ using Laser technology. Each structure was built from original blue prints, it took years of research and development to create all the structures. The scenery on the layout it is simply remarkable, every tree was handmade by Mr. Brandl because no manufacture produces tree's that look this realistic. The layout is simply a master piece, so much time and effort was spent to create the "Hochschwarzwald" layout that we can go on and on about it but watching the video will give you a better idea of how magnificent this layout really is.
The video was created by our friend Vikas Chander from India, Mr Chander is also a master model railroader who has also created an incredible German Deutsche Bundesbahn layout called Abendstern, which we will presenting soon. I filmed this layout in one day starting around 9am and finishing around 9pm. The lights in the room were very strong and by the time i finished i was drenched in sweat and I remember my black shirt had white stains on it! Mr.Bertelsmann was an extremely gracious host and i still remember the sumptuous lunch i shared with him. He had to leave for a dentist appointment at around 4pm which allowed me more time to film, otherwise not one to overstay my welcome, i probably would not have managed filming it completely. One day i will go back and film the then incomplete but now complete Freiburg Weihre section of the layout....

Like many others here in Germany I red the different publications about this layout. This video now offers a total different and new view to it. I grew up in this region, not far away the Ravenna Viadukt. My impression is, that you made this video with a concentrated passion. The same passion you can see in the work of Josef Brandl and Thomas Oswald. Congratulations to you and of course to Dieter Bertelsmann.

Absolut unglaublich diese fast perfekte Illusion,da fehlt nix.Meine Gedanken als das mit der Streckenschliessung kam......hoffentlich hat die Bahn die Bahnhofsgebäude nicht vergammeln lassen wie so oft und die Gemeinden haben das in die Hand genommen.Es war noch eine Zeit da jeder der bei der Bahn arbeitete Stolz war dabei zu sein ,nicht wie Heute.

Ich Wohne in der Gegend,(Freiburg) und kann das nur bestätigen es sieht aus, als ob man wirklich an den Bahnhöfen steht. Grad wenn man In Neustadt am Bahnhof steht, es sieht genau so aus als wäre man da, wenn man in den Berg schaut. Natürlich es hat sich einiges verändert in der Moderne, aber früher sah es tatsächlich so aus. Es müsste ein Doppeldaumen geben für dieses Video. Unglaublich diese Leistung . Wahnsinn.

Wonderful layout! I have built a 1:87 modell of Badenian class IX a rack railway locomotive that was used on Höllentalbahn. It's easy to build using parts from ready to run modell of Baureihe 89.

La unica difrencia entre la maqueta y la realidad es la inmobilidad de Los personajes y la falta de humo y vapore de las locomotoras. Por El resto nada nos hace notar que se tratta de una maqueta. Felicitaciones. Una de las mejores que he visto.
Tomo nota de pequeños detalles para reproducir en la maqueta que estoy construyendo.

The titles give the impression this layout was build by Dieter Bertelsmann. Which is not so.
The layout was build by Josef Brandl.
Bertelsmann only ordered, paid and received.

Yes we are friends with both Josef and Dieter, also Thomas Oswald built and created all the structures.
not true, Dieter did all the planning and research, did all the woodwork, laid all the track, electronics and computer programming. Josef Brandl did the scenery work and Thomas Oswald did the buildings....so all in all a collaborative effort ...not as simple as an ordered paid and received job
