Holy crap man. I never have to buy another bed in my life. Just get a really good mattress and make my bed out of food buckets! Legend. Absolute wealth of knowledge! Thank you! (Might be a Birch?)
A good way to stay warm inside without heat is to setup a small 2-4 person tent inside the smallest room it will fit in and sleep or spend time in that to warm up. A smaller cubic area to keep warm will cost less in fuel or body heat.
I live in a big city, but that has not stopped me from implementing most of the recommendations that abound regarding preparedness. Yes, staying at home is #1 on my list, for several reasons, but if I need to leave then I also have appropriate vehicles and supplies available and already stocked, as even for weekend outings you need to have considered contingencies. I could go on for ages, but suffice to say I also document everything and review and update that document periodically and if things change.
There is a very old 1960ish twilight zone episode (about a homemade bomb shelter in suburban community) that illustrates the situation an urban/suburban prepper would face, dealing with their unprepared neighbors. If you are awake and have the aptitude and discipline; you can have everything you need to survive for the short term. After acquisition, the major struggle becomes, keeping it...
Nice coverage of the basics, but you forgot one vital subject.... sanitation. If things are bad enough that you are having to rely on rainwater, you are possibly going to have to have alternatives to the sewer .... and if by chance you are on septic, when was your last pump out? --- oh and the bark on that things reminds me of eucalyptus :)
I've lived near a large city for the past few years. I enjoy the community I'm in and how walkable everything is. We have a good neighborhood watch program and are regulars at community events. You gave a lot of good advice, I'd add a good power outage kit including another way to cook. Anyone looking to move should always research where the civil marches and curfews were as even small towns have unrest. Looks like you're under a beautiful birch tree.
I have planted edible weeds along my escape route. Smilax is a good one. Black berrys, wild grapes, hog plums, wild cucumbers, ect. Nobody knows what they are and i do. Plus here in florida there is water everywhere. Mybug out location is held by family and has an artisian well. It is sulpher water but it is soo cold. And you get used to it.
This is why I wish I lived somewhere else, cause even where I live in a suburban area it really only rains in the summer, and I know whoever controls the water is king
Well it looked like a birch tree or maybe an Elm I couldn't get that much of a look at it. You mentioned down in Atlanta, do you live in the mountains? I visit Ellijay Georgia at least once a month. Well I live in the mountains of West Virginia so there's no worry of a big city such as Atlanta, actually I live about 15 miles from the nearest fair-sized city
@@davidcarothers3311 I do not know her. Is it a yellow birch? Living in Maine now we have both white and yellow. My daughter has known, since toddler age, white birch as the fire tree. I never called it that but she learned from making campfires amd teaching her how to collect it from the fallen birches as we hike, and gave it the name herself. Great channel, thanks for sharing the knowledge.
Awesome video, a pellet gun would help aquire food squirrels pigeons rabbits run around urban areas. Pellet guns are also fairly quiet and don't require paper work to own. The tree looked to be a member of the Birch family
You got that right. I live way out in the sticks.. one of the first things I notice in any city is "holy crap that's enough rock dove to eat for months" and the squirrels are FATTT. What about all the carp and catfish in literally every drainage. Water and security are the biggies... And if power, water, or food get short security is going to be a BIG issue REAL fast.
Your biggest assest is also your biggest liability. That is your neighbors/neighborhood. If you can get them into prepping then they wont be knocking on your door and can help with the security aspect. If not then your gonna be a target. Good information
CReate a stronger community ... a gesture like giving some of your garden's "tomatoes or seeds" to them might help them want to do something similar to be more prepared
Have a plumber put a shut off valve on your sewage line because the pumps that move the sewage to the treatment plant won’t be working and the dummies will keep flushing and you don’t want that s#!t backing up into your house, it has to go somewhere and if your street is a lower one in the neighborhood…………
Nice tips man. Great work. Now about the location B you mentioned and to have your car ready for it. I would say, that you need also be ready to abandon your vehicle and go on foot. So the size of the back and how heavy it is, actually matters. They dont have all the fitness level to make it work you know...

Good video Jason. ❤ In inner city tho I would switch that list upside down. In an area that is Liberal and will tell the police to stand down.... a 50BMG on the roof is your first tactic. 🤣🤣🤣 Your #2 is make plans to get the hell out of there while stocking up on 6 months of supplies. .... You need a chopper to get out unless you're on your own. Imagine total collapse with no 911 services.
Yup for preppers cities suck, and apartments in 170yr old buildings suck (I live in a city of over 300,000 people in a historically important building that got modernized in the 1980's after a fire) I grow edible plants based from a book called "the edible city" in the garden of 'my' building, it ain't so easy for me living amongst thousands of people but it's what was available. Conditions are what you make them!
Those things and services are no longer available in northern Nevada. Many Contractors and carpenters are not taking on business or if they are they have a year waiting list and prices are prohibitive. Can’t find gutters anywhere either. Six months to get new efficient windows we ordered. Do what you can, as soon as you can. Good list.
Locate a water source. I've been in two natural disasters. There's never enough water. Water for drinking, cooking, cleaning, sanitation. Never enough water.

This was pretty good for people who don’t know much. Obviously in a short vid you can’t cover everything but here are a few suggestions. Most important is to have barter items for the things you don’t have. Ammo, liquor, coffee, cigarettes, feminine hygiene, etc. Forget paper money. Second, health related items. Prescription drugs, in particular. Third, cold weather clothing. Do you have insulated underwear? Nows the time to get some. Finally, to repeat what he said, KEEP YOUR PIE-HOLE SHUT. After three days without food people will be desperate. People you blabbed to will come for food and won’t be shy about what they’ll do to get it. My supplies in my basement are covered with boxes, tarps, etc. I don’t want visitors seeing what I’ve got. If your children were starving what wouldn’t you do? Probably same for everybody else. Just sayin’.
Why would I take your advice as you don't live in a city and don't know specific issues. Lots water in city. Sillcock key and r knowing standpipes for example.
A sillcock key to access water is only useful if there is still pressure in the pipes which rely on the electrical grid to power the pumps. So if any thing happens to the power grid you can bet that pipes will eventually lose pressure. Unless you are accessing water that comes from a water tower which creates its own pressure through gravity until the water runs low
You don't like cities? Nobody likes cities. We live here because we... shoot, I don't know why we live here. Darn, now I need to move. The creeks and springs are still there under the houses and pavement. I know where the springs in my neighborhood are. I can dig them up if necessary.

Great info Jason for those of us who have relatively stuck a town - unless our vehicle becomes option #2.👍👍👍
Im so glad we live where we live.

Great vid. River Birch. I have one in my front yard.
I always love urban preparedness/survival think sessions. It's always so creative and outside-the-box mentally compared to rural homesteading.

Probably won’t have to worry about a pump out for a long time but I 5 gallon bucket, kitty litter, and garbage bags go a long way
Best way is to burn it in a location away from your water garden and location
Great thoughts. Thanks.

Learn what edible "weeds" are in your area

very good ideas, getting out of onerous consumption is important because it always takes resources away, greetings
You could use a first flush system with the current roofing for rainwater collection. Just a thought.
Only collect water from a roof 30 mins after it rains to give it time to wash the dust and gunk off the roof. Less filtering later.
