Agreed. I think a tree-man could be cool. Like a less spooky version (maybe regional variant?) of Trevenant based off of concepts like the Ents in Lord of the Rings, or The Green Man from pagan mythos. I also feel like the Fairy types have a similar issue. I get that when people think fairy, they think of a lady. But there are male fairies too. Maybe a pokemon based off of the fairy king, Oberon?

He did an amazing job of turning Link into Valoroot. Valoroot would be awesome in anime, taking advantage of animation in displaying its ability to change form based on its needs.
I would love to see a Valoroot protect a gardevior because they look like a princess and it has a cute crush on it and it fights a bigger Pokemon that wants his princess to themselves.

I would love to see a series of more designs like these! I really appreciate your focus on making pokemon that take inspiration without looking exactly like the character so they don't end up looking too uncanny. I especially loved the concept behind Roundevour, and loved how it turned out!
I think it’d be cool to make more legendary/mythical clones like mewtwo. Imagine like dark/psychic type clones of Azelf Mespirit and Uxie where they would take away willpower, emotions, and knowledge respectively

I agree there's little other options available to depict the character, but Pokémon are usually more thought-out than that. Yours however, feels really great. One part is because your Pokémon have their own identity beyond just being 1:1 with the character, and the other is that having him be a Pikachu clone is an idea that fit Sonic, and actually bridges the idea of making it Electric-type. I really enjoy your process!

I'd love to see a Belmont or Alucard inspired Pokemon. Mega Man too, why not? For the Belmont, I can see it being a Fighting / Steel Pokemon that focuses mostly on HP, Attack, and Defense, with very low speed. Designwise, it would be based on the armadillo lizard, a rare instance of a real-world animal using its tail as a weapon, even if said use is mostly for defense rather than offense. It would be bipedal, and it would have a Delibird situation, where what seems like a whip in its hand is actually its tail, which would be longer and thinner than a lot of Pokemon tails the further it gets from the base, but would be just as spiky as the animal its based on. When not fighting, it prefers to keep its tail nice and short without the numerous spikes, and when entering a fight, it takes a bit for its tail to grow back to its maximum length and spikyness. It would have a signature move called "Whiplash". A physical Steel-type move, it would change properties depending on the number of turns the user has battled so far. At the start, it's a pitiful 60 BP and deals Normal-type damage. On turn 3, it actually deals Steel-type damage and has 80 BP. Finally, on turn 5, it has 100 BP, bypasses protection, and deals super-effective damage to Dark-types. Other notable moves it would get include Power Whip, Fire Lash, Sacred Fire, Cross Chop, and Soft-Boiled as an alternative to chicken and pot roasts. Abilities would be Long Reach, Inner Focus, and the HA Justified. Also give it the same gender ratio as a starter, since there was Sonia Belmont that one time. I'm not really sure about the design though The Alucard Pokemon would be a Dark / Fighting-type. He would somewhat resemble Gallade, a humanoid creature with the swords being a part of his arms, as well as "hair" primarily composed of a light, mist-like substance. His stats would a jack-of-all-trades build, mostly focusing on offenses and Speed. He wouldn't actually know any new moves, but can take advantage of a bunch of sword slashes. Where this Pokemon really shines is its signature ability. Let's call it "Vampiric Blood". Upon using moves of certain types, this Pokemon will actually change formes. Using a Ground-type move changes the Alucardmon into a Dark / Ground wolf (with its fur being a dark, misty substance) that focuses a lot more on Speed than normal, but at the cost of Sp. Atk and Defenses. Using a Flying-type moves causes him to transform into a Dark / Flying vampire bat that hits harder on both sides and is a bit faster, but once again has lower defenses. This form is also covered in a dark mist. Finally, using a Poison-type move full-on changes him into a Dark / Poison cloud of light mist. This form focuses entirely on defenses, while severely hampering offenses and Speed. There are some catches though. Each alternate form transformation only lasts 4 turns, he can't go from one alternate form to another, only standard to alternate, the transformation goes away after swapping out, and only one transformation is allowed per switch-in. Not giving any Mega Man ideas, since everyone else in the comments has already done that Also a bit of a shame that Roundevour's stats didn't somehow reference Namco's famous 7650 easter egg
Man, But since its not a Literal Interpretation of The Characters as Pokémon, What if The Megaman Mon was a Two stage line, The First Stage Would be Inspired by Classic Megaman and Mighty.No9 Then The second stage would be a Mix of X, Zero and Megaman Volnut. They would More or so focus on Special Attack, Special Defense and Speed, With them Having "Clear Body", "Tinted Lens" with The Hidden ability Being "Power Up" (because it makes sense).
Tanimble and Sonda were my favorites, but overall they all fit really well with the Pokémon artstyle. Most fakemon just look generic, but these look pretty good!
Mario one : liked the more mario looking one Sonic one : best one, great look Link one : pretty good but could also be grass/steel? Pac-Man one : never mind, this is the best one! Looks just perfect!

I really appreciate all of them! I do think there was a missed opportunity on Links shiny version where I think that fan favorites like Fierce Deity or Shadow Link would have been great choices! But the original version looks spot on! 8/10
I wanted to turn the Knight from Hollow Knight into a Pokémon. Basically, a Skull thst is inhabited by a swarm of TINY bugs that act as a colony to form limbs. Its arms come out of its eye holes and look like the Knight's cloak.
These are actually really great designs, you should be proud! I wish they did more obvious homages in Pokemon designs. It would be fun just figuring out what the homage is.

Yoooo, Power Up feels like such a fun ability in addition to being a great reference!~ Depending on the moves you teach it, every Tanimble on a trainer team would feel unique, essentially granting it access to a third typing with no drawbacks.
I made something like this for Ninten, Ness, and Lucas. I tried giving them tails to look more animalistic but then I look at these and they suddenly look humanoid by comparison.

Roundevour could’ve been a Normal Dark type, since a lot of biting moves like Bite and Crunch are dark type, and Pac-Man likes to eat ghosts too, and Dark is super effective against ghist
“I was making a mistake, I was making Mario a Pokémon instead of making a Pokémon based on Mario.” Literally an entire chapter later, makes sonic more rotund and calls it a pokemon
Because as he said earlier in that chapter, “Sonic is already an anthropomorphic animal with superpowers” which is literally a good portion of the Pokémon design criteria, so there really wasn’t much to change.
I have a great idea for the Tanimble, I think another hidden ability should be “weakness avoid” where if Tanimble is against a water type or a type strong against fire it switches to grass and fighting type :)
i was talking to a friend of mine about how samus would be translated into a pokemon, and since samus uses an arm cannon and one of her poweups is the ice beam, she could work as an electric/ice type pokemon. the metroids themselves could be poison/dragon, maybe. megaman could start out as a pure steel type that has a signature ability which adds a type of the move selected for that turn, allowing it to maintain the megaman design as well as change color like in-game, and provide interesting options to deal with opponents. we've also made pokemon based on the protagonists of doom and wolfenstein 3d, among others. edit: in retrospect maybe the megaman idea was a bit busted since steel makes nearly any pokemon overpowered, but i still think it could have an ability or move that makes normal type moves into a certain type. as for samus, i'm pretty much happy with how cephalaunch turned out. now if only the metroids were poison/dragon or something weak to ice...
A lot of people asking for Bowser in part 2, which I don't doubt will happen, so here's an idea for Bowser Pokémon. Fire/Dark type. Fire cuz he's also constantly associated with it, and dark because he's the villain of his series, and also because that would make him weak to Tanimble's fighting type, which also matches Bowser constantly being defeated by Mario. As for other characters, a Ganon-inspired Pokémon to be a rival to Valoroot. Could be a boar-looking Pokemon that is a dark type (since Ganon has dark magic and would also make him weak to Valoroot's fairy type) and has a mechanic similar to darmanitan, in which he changes form at low HP, making him look more like Calamity Ganon, and gaining the ghost type. Maybe regional forms of Sonda, one inspired by Shadow, being a dark/electric type, and one inspired by Silver, being a psychic type. But lastly, some Metroid-inspired ones. Once again a villain, a fire/flying type based on Ridley would be cool. And also a steel/electric type based on Samus (so that they'd both me more or less equally matched if Ridley is fire/flying), and she could have regional variants, like a dark/electric one based on Dark Samus from the Prime trilogy, and a poison/steel one based on the SA-X from Fusion.
Honestly I'm a *huge* fan of valoroot- it looks like a beleivable pokemon and still perfectly hits that Link look and feel, the hat and pose certainly help that,but even without the hat and in a neutral standing position, I'd say it was similar to Link- plus the ability courage negating stat drops makes perfect sense too, the lore of it and the biology with the leaf control, I'm not even a massive Zelda fan and I'd love to have him on my team I could also see some like 'master sword' item, maybe some kind of like 'Magic Hardened Leaf' or something ya find, that when they hold it, they get a 1.2x power multiplier to all 'cutting' moves, like leaf blade, slash, and sacred sword- or maybe it treats them all like they have STAB, even if his type is changed- so all of the cutting moves get a 1.5x damage increase- I could also see him being a second stage, maybe it could evolve from some pokemon-ified deku scrub? Which has access to Bullet Seed and Seed Bomb *relatively* early, and a focus more on physical defence, before evolving and becoming much more offensive, and focusing more on cutting moves, maybe learning leaf blade on evolution? And maybe it evolves- instead of after a certain level, by participating in X amount of battles- so like, it's *proved* it's courage, and becomes Valoroot? I dunno, just spitballing random ideas for a pokemon that doesn't exist, lol- I love all the drawings and the ideas, honestly it's hard to choose a second favorite, they're all super good! And I'd love to see them all in a real game! But I am, and always have been a huge sucker for Grass types, I've always chosen the grass starter, made several mono-type grass teams, been a grass gym leader- it's always been one of my favorite things! And that Link is just such a perfect fit for everything I've wanted from a grass-type, truly you're an incredible artist, and if my rambling is anything to go on, I really love your ideas! Dukay (named after Deku, but the vowels sounds are swapped, and suggest “decay”, for the Deku Link was turned into was dead), the driftwood Pokémon Dukay are rather weak, but adventurous. They want to see the world even if their constitution aren’t up for it. Dukay live on stream of water so they are literally able to hop to each other’s houses, but they are clustered since they can only hop five steps before sinking. Despite them living in water, they use their bubble instead to catch and eat bugs. However, it is said that if Dukay prove their valor by becoming good at battling, they may get to go on the adventure they wish to have. It is not like they don’t have the capabilities for it, either; their arm stumps break into things like swords easily so they can battle.
I know it's not as well known as the series you covered in this video, but I feel like the knight from Hollow Knight could translate well into a pokemon style.
This would be such an awesome series! I also think it would make sense if a Mario Pokemon was also inspired by a Kangaroo, since they're fighters and are known for their jumping

this is super awesome! i loved all the designs created here! also: megaman could work as a bear, maybe not as big as something like ursaring lol. his buster could be an empty honeycomb filled with honey, since they both are cylinder shaped and contain yellowish substances inside!
I really hope this becomes a series. I would love to see your interpretation as of characters like Crash, Mega Man, Ryu, and Kirby as Pokémon.

I'd love to see a Belmont or Alucard inspired Pokemon. Mega Man too, why not?
For the Belmont, I can see it being a Fighting / Steel Pokemon that focuses mostly on HP, Attack, and Defense, with very low speed. Designwise, it would be based on the armadillo lizard, a rare instance of a real-world animal using its tail as a weapon, even if said use is mostly for defense rather than offense. It would be bipedal, and it would have a Delibird situation, where what seems like a whip in its hand is actually its tail, which would be longer and thinner than a lot of Pokemon tails the further it gets from the base, but would be just as spiky as the animal its based on. When not fighting, it prefers to keep its tail nice and short without the numerous spikes, and when entering a fight, it takes a bit for its tail to grow back to its maximum length and spikyness. It would have a signature move called "Whiplash". A physical Steel-type move, it would change properties depending on the number of turns the user has battled so far. At the start, it's a pitiful 60 BP and deals Normal-type damage. On turn 3, it actually deals Steel-type damage and has 80 BP. Finally, on turn 5, it has 100 BP, bypasses protection, and deals super-effective damage to Dark-types. Other notable moves it would get include Power Whip, Fire Lash, Sacred Fire, Cross Chop, and Soft-Boiled as an alternative to chicken and pot roasts. Abilities would be Long Reach, Inner Focus, and the HA Justified. Also give it the same gender ratio as a starter, since there was Sonia Belmont that one time. I'm not really sure about the design though
The Alucard Pokemon would be a Dark / Fighting-type. He would somewhat resemble Gallade, a humanoid creature with the swords being a part of his arms, as well as "hair" primarily composed of a light, mist-like substance. His stats would a jack-of-all-trades build, mostly focusing on offenses and Speed. He wouldn't actually know any new moves, but can take advantage of a bunch of sword slashes. Where this Pokemon really shines is its signature ability. Let's call it "Vampiric Blood". Upon using moves of certain types, this Pokemon will actually change formes. Using a Ground-type move changes the Alucardmon into a Dark / Ground wolf (with its fur being a dark, misty substance) that focuses a lot more on Speed than normal, but at the cost of Sp. Atk and Defenses. Using a Flying-type moves causes him to transform into a Dark / Flying vampire bat that hits harder on both sides and is a bit faster, but once again has lower defenses. This form is also covered in a dark mist. Finally, using a Poison-type move full-on changes him into a Dark / Poison cloud of light mist. This form focuses entirely on defenses, while severely hampering offenses and Speed. There are some catches though. Each alternate form transformation only lasts 4 turns, he can't go from one alternate form to another, only standard to alternate, the transformation goes away after swapping out, and only one transformation is allowed per switch-in.

Man, But since its not a Literal Interpretation of The Characters as Pokémon, What if The Megaman Mon was a Two stage line, The First Stage Would be Inspired by Classic Megaman and Mighty.No9 Then The second stage would be a Mix of X, Zero and Megaman Volnut. They would More or so focus on Special Attack, Special Defense and Speed, With them Having "Clear Body", "Tinted Lens" with The Hidden ability Being "Power Up" (because it makes sense).

Tanimble and Sonda were my favorites, but overall they all fit really well with the Pokémon artstyle. Most fakemon just look generic, but these look pretty good!

I wanted to turn the Knight from Hollow Knight into a Pokémon.
Basically, a Skull thst is inhabited by a swarm of TINY bugs that act as a colony to form limbs. Its arms come out of its eye holes and look like the Knight's cloak.
This concept is very cool

Depending on the moves you teach it, every Tanimble on a trainer team would feel unique, essentially granting it access to a third typing with no drawbacks.
I made something like this for Ninten, Ness, and Lucas. I tried giving them tails to look more animalistic but then I look at these and they suddenly look humanoid by comparison.
This was great! I loved seeing the designs. Maybe a Kirby inspired Pokémon or a DK inspired Pokémon next? Or maybe Pit from Kid Icarus! We need more art inspired by that game and then maybe we’ll get a new one in the series 😂

Because as he said earlier in that chapter, “Sonic is already an anthropomorphic animal with superpowers” which is literally a good portion of the Pokémon design criteria, so there really wasn’t much to change.

i was talking to a friend of mine about how samus would be translated into a pokemon, and since samus uses an arm cannon and one of her poweups is the ice beam, she could work as an electric/ice type pokemon. the metroids themselves could be poison/dragon, maybe.
megaman could start out as a pure steel type that has a signature ability which adds a type of the move selected for that turn, allowing it to maintain the megaman design as well as change color like in-game, and provide interesting options to deal with opponents.
we've also made pokemon based on the protagonists of doom and wolfenstein 3d, among others.
edit: in retrospect maybe the megaman idea was a bit busted since steel makes nearly any pokemon overpowered, but i still think it could have an ability or move that makes normal type moves into a certain type. as for samus, i'm pretty much happy with how cephalaunch turned out. now if only the metroids were poison/dragon or something weak to ice...

I love this, definitely do more! I'd be interested how you might turn Banjo and Kazooie into a Pokémon, for instance.
A lot of people asking for Bowser in part 2, which I don't doubt will happen, so here's an idea for Bowser Pokémon. Fire/Dark type. Fire cuz he's also constantly associated with it, and dark because he's the villain of his series, and also because that would make him weak to Tanimble's fighting type, which also matches Bowser constantly being defeated by Mario.
As for other characters, a Ganon-inspired Pokémon to be a rival to Valoroot. Could be a boar-looking Pokemon that is a dark type (since Ganon has dark magic and would also make him weak to Valoroot's fairy type) and has a mechanic similar to darmanitan, in which he changes form at low HP, making him look more like Calamity Ganon, and gaining the ghost type.
Maybe regional forms of Sonda, one inspired by Shadow, being a dark/electric type, and one inspired by Silver, being a psychic type.
But lastly, some Metroid-inspired ones. Once again a villain, a fire/flying type based on Ridley would be cool. And also a steel/electric type based on Samus (so that they'd both me more or less equally matched if Ridley is fire/flying), and she could have regional variants, like a dark/electric one based on Dark Samus from the Prime trilogy, and a poison/steel one based on the SA-X from Fusion.

Honestly I'm a *huge* fan of valoroot- it looks like a beleivable pokemon and still perfectly hits that Link look and feel, the hat and pose certainly help that,but even without the hat and in a neutral standing position, I'd say it was similar to Link- plus the ability courage negating stat drops makes perfect sense too, the lore of it and the biology with the leaf control, I'm not even a massive Zelda fan and I'd love to have him on my team
I could also see some like 'master sword' item, maybe some kind of like 'Magic Hardened Leaf' or something ya find, that when they hold it, they get a 1.2x power multiplier to all 'cutting' moves, like leaf blade, slash, and sacred sword- or maybe it treats them all like they have STAB, even if his type is changed- so all of the cutting moves get a 1.5x damage increase-
I could also see him being a second stage, maybe it could evolve from some pokemon-ified deku scrub? Which has access to Bullet Seed and Seed Bomb *relatively* early, and a focus more on physical defence, before evolving and becoming much more offensive, and focusing more on cutting moves, maybe learning leaf blade on evolution?
And maybe it evolves- instead of after a certain level, by participating in X amount of battles- so like, it's *proved* it's courage, and becomes Valoroot? I dunno, just spitballing random ideas for a pokemon that doesn't exist, lol-
I love all the drawings and the ideas, honestly it's hard to choose a second favorite, they're all super good! And I'd love to see them all in a real game! But I am, and always have been a huge sucker for Grass types, I've always chosen the grass starter, made several mono-type grass teams, been a grass gym leader- it's always been one of my favorite things! And that Link is just such a perfect fit for everything I've wanted from a grass-type, truly you're an incredible artist, and if my rambling is anything to go on, I really love your ideas!

Dukay (named after Deku, but the vowels sounds are swapped, and suggest “decay”, for the Deku Link was turned into was dead), the driftwood Pokémon
Dukay are rather weak, but adventurous. They want to see the world even if their constitution aren’t up for it. Dukay live on stream of water so they are literally able to hop to each other’s houses, but they are clustered since they can only hop five steps before sinking. Despite them living in water, they use their bubble instead to catch and eat bugs. However, it is said that if Dukay prove their valor by becoming good at battling, they may get to go on the adventure they wish to have. It is not like they don’t have the capabilities for it, either; their arm stumps break into things like swords easily so they can battle.
