Great presentation Darren. My favourite is Ninja Assassin. I own it and it is top notch. Rain is great in the lead role. Many thanks for sharing with us, much appreciated 🫶 🫶🫶
Loved CitIzen X, but it's a weird one to kick off a list of 'OFFENSIVE & Extremely Graphic Movies', in that is neither offensive nor extremely graphic.
The Killing of a Sacred Dear was filmed at a neighbor’s house. Their kids hung out with Nicole Kidman’s kids while they were filming. That scene where Colin Farrell threw all the silverware out of a drawer ruined their kitchen floor, but they decided not to fix it so they would always have a story to tell about it.
That’s so cool!! Any idea or insight into how your neighbors house was selected for filming a movie inside of it? I’m genuinely curious as to how stuff like that gets decided or how it’s even proposed to the homeowners unless they are also in the entertainment industry!
@ from what I recall most major cities have local companies that will do location scouting based on the outlined requirements. There was a small outdoor scene that was scouted right next to their house and when the director saw those pics he said he liked the house in the background, could he get more pics. It turned out they didn’t like the outside of the house after all, but decided their kitchen and one bedroom were perfect for the movie.
@ thanks for explaining and sharing! What a neat experience for your neighbors; I know not everyone would jump at the chance to have movie scenes filmed in their house/property and some of the logistics might be complicated or less than ideal, but I would still love to be able to have that experience/be adjacent to it just because of how unique and I assume rare it is too have that kind of opportunity presented to someone who is not involved in the entertainment industry at all. Again, thanks for sharing these details; it never would have crossed my mind that they were filming inside a private residence if you had not chimed in. I love learning stuff like this so thank you!
One of those movies that was almost permanent on HBO and Cinemax in the late 80s and then almost completely disappeared, it must be more than 30 years since the last time I saw it on television!! Great, simple 80s entertainment!!
Great list Darren !!!! I have been a HUGE fan of Citizen X since it first came out on HBO in 1999. Back then when you got cable for the first time, you usually got HBO free for a month, so I recorded Citizen X onto VHS tape and kept it for years afterwards. Eventually I gave it my son, who also loved the movie, and he kept it until the tape finally broke sometime in 2015. The cats was excellent and veteran character actor Jeffrey DeMunn gave an Oscar-quality performance as serial killer Andrei Chekatilov. It was career role for him. Stephen Rea, Donald Sutherland, Max Von Sydow and Joss Ackland all gave excellent performances.
You forgot to mention that Ninja Assassin features a young Anna Sawai, a complete “smoke show”who was one of IMDB’s Breakout Stars of 2024, having recently turned in a bravura performance in Shogun.
Anna did those action scenes in costumes she hated -:watch the Japanese women walk in the series. All part of the magic but tough on actors - I wish her well.
The killing of the sacred deer inspired by the ancient greek story where Agamemnon had to sscrifice his daughter iphigenia after killing artemis' sacred deer to get the wind to blow so the fleet could sail to troy. Hence the overly art-house mode
One of those movies that was almost permanent on HBO and Cinemax in the late 80s and then almost completely disappeared, it must be more than 30 years since the last time I saw it on television!! Great, simple 80s entertainment!!
The Hitcher was fantastic. Own it on DVD and watch it time to time. C Thomas Howell was still an up and coming star. Rutger Hauer has some of his best work. His facial expressions are the icing on the cake. A little outlandish but C T Howell is almost as stressed as Ash from Evil Dead throughout. Man Bites Dog was great.
Shoutout to one of the few, accurate outros I've heard on TH-cam. "You will see me on the next one" is much better than the creator saying "I'll see you on the next one " Thanks for the viewing recommendations. I hope to watch some of these with my Dad.
Would really like to know what those glass tubes are in your background. They look awesome, like some kind of flaming Nixitube. Great video as usual, there are definitely a handful here I need to catch!
I just watched Ghost Dog this year after seeing the reviews. Even though I love Forest Whitaker I never would have guessed how well regarded that movie is. I was surprisingly entertained, good watch.
For those who haven't seen, Uncut Gems, Good Time is a great place to start. I didn't quite know what to expect when I firs saw Gems and I damn near had a panic attack. I think had I seen Good Time first that I would have been a bit better prepared! That said, please watch both of them.
Uncut Gems was AWESOME. That movie with Good Times would make a perfect Double Feature. Both have that low budget look, but deliver the goods 100%. I love them.
Saw the hitcher multiple decades ago. It is pretty intense. For the best effect watch with headphones in a darkened room at night. Just be sure you don't wake up the whole house in the process.
@@oldschoolde5183 OMG! Yes exactly. I remember thinking it was...and then oh come on, geeze this film is getting to me. And then he has his jump scare moment.

Killing of a sacred deer was actually amazing in my opinion. At first, the odd cadence of monotone and seemingly robotic style was distracting. I later read that Yorgos intentionally used this. I first watched Saltburn on my daughter's recommendation as I thought it would be too weird for me, but I was surprised to have enjoyed that as well. So of course, in my quest to watch movies in the same vein, I read about "Killing". Yorgos also made Poor Things which I purchased for streaming and have yet to watch. Really looking forward to it.
I hate how this used to be normal, and now it's "offensive and graphic". I look for these types but now we have a class of people that "cring" at this awesomeness.
With AI-generated thumbnails. Yeah, it's gotten pretty bad. (Along with the super-annoying TH-cam Singsong speaking style that's infected most of the platform.)
So true !! The political correct snowflakes can't handle it. The reason we went to see it IS because it's offensive and graphic. Let us do the thinking for ourselves.
They may not be on MAX, but they're worth watching regardless: To Live and Die In LA starring Willem Dafoe, John Turturro, and Robert Downey Sr., and Zombie Strippers starring Robert Englund and Jenna Jameson.
Watched Ghost Dog years ago and haven't seen it since. Ninja Assassin is definitely one of my favorite highly stylized movies. Over the top hack and slash revenge movie.
"Man Bites Dog" is absolutely beyond all levels. It is literally roll on the floor laughing. I remember watching with my uncle and he almost died like 8 times from laughing. We've always said it would have been EPIC if he had died, while actually watching Mad Bites Dog!
I watched The Hitcher when it came out and it blew my mind. No one was talking about it, so i went out with no expectations. I miss Rutger Hauer. I wish he had the career that Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger had, because i love everything he did. If Flesh + Blood is available somewhere, do recommend it.
Another great vid. On the blood in 300. It suited the ascetic of the film; live action comic book. Just like all the abs, meant to be graphic novel like.
Booty Call? You actually put Booty Call on this list? What "Graphic" Sex or Violence happens in Booty Call? I know I haven't seen it since 2000, but I don't remember a drop of either in THAT movie. Yeah, it's slightly raunchy, and as mildly wild as mildly wild can get, but I don't think it belongs on this list.
Good Time and The Hitcher are my two favorite from the list. Good Time was directed by one of the leading actors in the film and you'd never guess who it is ! EDIT : I love your They Live t-shirt, by the way. GHOST DOG rules !!! That movie is unique and there's nothing like it. It's easy to watch and has very memorable characters and a badass black Lexus GS400, which I ended up getting one because of this film.
Ninja Assassin is one of my favorite martial arts movies! "As far as something that is just exciting and again extremely graphic, it makes the cut." I see what you did there...
Man bites dog was forbidden to show anywhere in England in the 90s. Just like Clockwork Orange and The Exorcist. The last 2 was forbidden since they came out. And Man bites dog was illegal in all of the 90s. But they changed the rules in the 3 21st century. So maybe they're okay today. The exorcist was for sure...
For those that enjoy Ghost Dog, definitely go back and watch Melville's Le Samourai - a heavy inspiration for Ghost Dog, and a great movie in its own right!
Pretty sure I saw Ninja Assassin in theaters, but I DEFINITELY own it on DVD and would recommend the flick to any martial arts movie fan!! Ghost Dog, while slow at times, is something I would recommend as well. Attack the Block is THE John Boyega flick!! My only regret is not seeing this movie when it was in theaters, because IT'S EPIC!!
Review of Ninja Assassin Ninja Assassin (2009) is an electrifying martial arts action film that delivers adrenaline-pumping fight scenes, intense choreography, and a gripping tale of vengeance. Directed by James McTeigue (V for Vendetta) and produced by the Wachowskis, this movie takes the ninja genre to new heights with its stunning visual effects, brutal combat sequences, and a compelling central performance by South Korean superstar Rain. Plot Overview The story revolves around Raizo (Rain), a highly skilled ninja trained from childhood by the Ozunu Clan. After breaking free from the oppressive and deadly clan, Raizo sets out to dismantle their organization while protecting a Europol agent, Mika (Naomie Harris), who is uncovering their hidden operations. The film blends elements of traditional martial arts storytelling with modern espionage, creating a fresh and exhilarating take on the ninja mythos. The Cast • Rain (Raizo): Rain’s performance is a standout. Known primarily as a pop icon before this film, Rain trained extensively to embody the physicality and intensity required for the role. His portrayal of Raizo is equal parts stoic and vulnerable, making him a relatable yet formidable protagonist. His fight scenes, choreographed by martial arts legend Chad Stahelski, are mesmerizing and brutal. • Naomie Harris (Mika): Harris brings depth and urgency to her role as the Europol agent caught in a dangerous conspiracy. Her chemistry with Rain provides emotional grounding in a film dominated by action. • Sho Kosugi (Lord Ozunu): Sho Kosugi, a veteran of classic ninja films, lends gravitas to the movie as the menacing leader of the Ozunu Clan. His presence connects the modern action with the golden age of ninja cinema. • Rick Yune (Takeshi): Rick Yune is memorable as one of Raizo’s adversaries, embodying the cold and ruthless demeanor of a clan enforcer. Why It’s Awesome Ninja Assassin excels in its action sequences, which are intense, bloody, and meticulously choreographed. The use of CGI-enhanced weapons, particularly the iconic kusarigama (chain and sickle), adds a unique visual flair to the fights. The film doesn’t shy away from violence, making every battle high-stakes and visceral. The cinematography and shadow-heavy aesthetic evoke the stealth and mystique of traditional ninja lore while injecting it with a modern edge. Criticism Some critics noted that the plot is relatively straightforward and serves primarily as a vehicle for the action. However, for fans of martial arts and action films, this simplicity is more of a feature than a flaw, as it allows the focus to remain on the stunning combat sequences. Final Thoughts Ninja Assassin is a thrilling ride for anyone who loves martial arts films or high-octane action. Rain’s commitment to the role, combined with James McTeigue’s direction and the Wachowskis’ production expertise, makes this film a standout in the genre. It’s a must-watch for fans of relentless, stylish action and ninja lore.
God every time I see or someone says C Thomas Howell I flashback to the SNL news Skit where David Spade says C Thomas Howell thank god we don't have to anymore.
the movies you talk about in this video are pretty smooth compared to what i have seen and they are not extremely graphic at all. the most graphic movies i have seen was the Faces of death movies a long time ago but these days you can see alot on you tube.
I've seen Citizne X; not that bad. You didn't mention that it's based on a true story, a guy named Chikatilow who evaded capture for years. The book about it is "Comrade Chikatilow, a great read.
I feel like you should create a scale to rate movies. Not by popularity, but by horror maybe Jaws, or Exorcist. Scifi, maybe Metropolis to Blade runner. I could go on but if you said it's 1/2 of Eraserhead, I would have a very good idea of this movie.

Why It’s Awesome
Ninja Assassin excels in its action sequences, which are intense, bloody, and meticulously choreographed.
Criticism
Some critics noted that the plot is relatively straightforward and serves primarily as a vehicle for the action. However, for fans of martial arts and action films, this simplicity is more of a feature than a flaw, as it allows the focus to remain on the stunning combat sequences.
Final Thoughts
Ninja Assassin is a thrilling ride for anyone who loves martial arts films or high-octane action. Rain’s commitment to the role, combined with James McTeigue’s direction and the Wachowskis’ production expertise, makes this film a standout in the genre. It’s a must-watch for fans of relentless, stylish action and ninja lore.
WELL VAN DAM, THAT'S AN ECLECTIC LIST. GHOST DOG IS A HIP HOP CLASSIC.
The hitcher and dual are both great.
The Hitcher may be "the least graphic film on this list" but it DOES give new meaning to the phrase "finger food"...
God every time I see or someone says C Thomas Howell I flashback to the SNL news Skit where David Spade says C Thomas Howell thank god we don't have to anymore.
Machete and Sacred Deer are AMAZING
the movies you talk about in this video are pretty smooth compared to what i have seen and they are not extremely graphic at all. the most graphic movies i have seen was the Faces of death movies a long time ago but these days you can see alot on you tube.
Big let down you not digging '300'... that movie was PERFECT for that kind of CGI!!!
I saw the hitcher in theaters. It was intense
I've seen Citizne X; not that bad. You didn't mention that it's based on a true story, a guy named Chikatilow who evaded capture for years. The book about it is "Comrade Chikatilow, a great read.
Ghost Dog, Attack the Block, The Hitcher and Ninja Assassin are some of my favorite flix🫡good list.
“The good kind?” 👀
I remember seeing booty call when it came out. I thought it was going to suck but i Loved it! hysterical!
I watched Abigail last night. That's a movie for this list. It's super fun
Can’t get theses on my Netflix?
I feel like you should create a scale to rate movies. Not by popularity, but by horror maybe Jaws, or Exorcist. Scifi, maybe Metropolis to Blade runner. I could go on but if you said it's 1/2 of Eraserhead, I would have a very good idea of this movie.
THERE IS NO MOVIE LIKE THE ORIGINAL HITCHER IMO. CLASSIC IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT. RIP TO THE LEGEND RUTGER HAUER. BACK WHEN THE VIDEO STORE AND THE VCR WERE MY BEST FRIENDS.
I have seen everything on this list except Hamlet 2....how in the hell did i miss this movie?¿
His name is C. Thomas Howell. ( C )
