I think the hardest thing about being a loved one of addiction and mental illness is being the battering ram of all that emotion. And they sometimes have no control of why they are hurting you.

One song done a certain way that you wish the audience would cut the crap with the whistling or the shouting and just listen. Fucking hell. Feels disrespectful to even make a sound while this man is singing.
I’ve been a fan of Blue October since History for sale album came out. I liked them back when they were more “dark”. Their first 4 or 5 albums were great. Now he has chosen to be more commercially acceptable, which I get, he needs to put food on the table, but they were better back when he wrote about more dark stuff than the “bubble gum” stuff he puts out now.
This is a popular opinion, but I would have to think after a while of having most of your your needs met, tons of money, and access to things most of us can't dream about it has to be hard to be "dark" and still be authenic. Also, people change, bands change, it's part of life. Totally not knocking your comment, lot's of people agree with you. I've read that more than a few times about their last album. Also, dude flew here on his on dime, played for free to honor his friend Jeff, so I support him and blue oct as long as they stay authenic. Thanks for the comment and opening up this conversation.
